Back in the day I played CS 1.6 on LAN-parties and later on some CS Source online. So i can compare all "episodes" of the game and for me CS GO nowadays is the best Counter Strike ever.
Only shame is that the amount of cheaters seems to be increasing every day, so this is sadly a big downside of the game. Also that you get the feeling that Valve isn´t really caring about the game and the big cheater-problem and much more about selling ingame stuff like cases, keys, weapon-skins and a lot more ingame-items. Also they really **** up on some weapon-updates like every time they update some weapon-functions.
Apart from all that CS GO is the best competetive, tactical first-person shooter out there for me.
If you have some friends to play with on your skill-level it can be really fun (and addicting), also you can find some through using ingame matchmaking for sure, too.
But to make this clear once more - in contrast to the highest number of players ingame ever lately - if this ridiculous cheater-amount keeps rising unstopped, i guess a lot of players (including me) will drop the game for good.

EDIT 4.12.20:

Oh cool - so the new operation is out!
Nice to see that V**** is giving new content, and cool skins to the community, but still not
giving a **** about the ever increasing cheater-scum flooding the servers.
I mean matchmaking is mostly not enjoyable anymore since a long time, so i won´t support this, as the company is obviously only interested in making money - not caring about the game or community AT ALL.
I mean other developers show how much more is possible in the fight against cheaters - so in the end it´s just absolutely embarassing!
I guess it concludes in business-meetings where the ones responsible be like: "hey, why waste money and time to develop or implement a proper anticheat, when we can just make millions without it, and the community (+ the cheaters themselves) will wolf down every new content and keep giving us sooo much money."
I like total capitalism.

EDIT 29.08.2024:

CS2 could be such a good version of CS - but still every second or third match is infested by wall- or aimhackers, valve still not doing something about it - even overwatch is gone since the release 1 year ago..
I guess they really need to stop making so much money from it (opening cases etc.), so that they will do something about the unfair play all around, since they obviously dont care about the game or community itself. So sad when art or something special like this becomes/still is a complete cash grab..
