I'm reviewing this for a steam badge. Thanks GabeN.

If you like Harvest Moon, or farming in general, then go ahead and buy this game. It's farming, with a plot. (Bdum-tsss)

Hyper Light Drifter.
To summarize; a beautiful, quirky, and adventurous game.

Now, I don't normally write reviews, as I find myself to be awful at pointing out certain aspects of a game, but I just had to for this one.

Style
To start off with, the first thing that got me really excited to play this game was the art style. I know a lot of people who dislike the whole 2D pixel art and modernized 16-bit style that a lot of current indie games have, but I find myself to be a sucker for it. Especially in this case. The colour palette is not what one would normally go for for a (what seems to be) post-apocalyptic style. But the bright colours, dark highlights, and soft overglow all tie into the pixel art style, making a wide array of stunning scenes and amazing enviroments.

Music
To go along with those enviroments, there's amazingly coordinated music. There are so many places that I've come to in the game where the music ques are just right and really add the emotion needed to make what I am seeing perfect. Whether I'm just making my way to the next module, or if I've just stumbled across another titan frozen in time, the music adds the ambience needed to be immersive. As most games do.

Gameplay
Now as for gameplay, this game is giving me a run for my money. There are few combat mechanics in this game, but they widen out to form so many other possiblities while fighting. Along with a sword and a gun, you have a dodging technique, called drifting. And it's essential. Honestly I've seen so many games with amazing and unique gameplay mechanics, but I manage to play the entire game without using it. For this game you HAVE you use it. It's integrated so well with the enviroment, making it such a natural thing to use. It can be finicky to get the hang of (especially in later stages of it *cough* chain-dash challenge *cough*), I found the combat to be really smooth however, after getting used to it. Be warned, this game is pretty difficult.

Story
It's still so cool to see what people have gotten from this game. HLD has no written story, if you didn't know. It's all told...or seen I guess...by what you experience in the game yourself, and slideshows that you get from NPC's. Each NPC that you can interact with in this way gives you a little snippet of their backstory. A lot of them pertain to being saved by someone. I haven't personally dug too far into the worlds story yet, but I am hoping to get on that soon. It's really a choice to how deep you want to read into this world. I do really enjoy playing as the drifter though.

TL;DR
Hyper Light Drifter is an amazing game, and I really recommend it to those who are looking for an adventure. If you are a fan of the 2D Legend of Zelda titles, I assure you, you will enjoy this.
