Rules for Significant Figures
1) All non zero numbers are significant figures
2) All sandwiched zeroes are significant
3) All zeroes after a number between 1-9 and a decimal place are significant
4) Zeroes after a decimal place and before a 1-9 number are not significant.

Nomenclature Rules
3 Types: Type I, Type II, Type III

Type I Rules:
-cations always involve 1A or 2A metals on the periodic table (exceptions: Al, Ag, Zn, Ga, In)
-hydrogen can be Type 1, 3 and an acid
-charge of Type 1 cations relates to its valence electrons
-Anions are nonmetals
-take the roman numeral on the periodic table to get the anion charge

Type I Naming:
1) Name the metal cation first
2) Name nonmetal anion second and add the phrase "-ide" at the end of the name

Type I Formula Writing:
1) Symbol
2) Charge
3) Criss Cross
4) Reduce

Type II Rules:
-Name metal cation first (name metal w/ roman numeral in parenthesis to indicate charge)
-Non metal becomes an "-ide"

Type II Formula Writing:
*Refer to Type I

Type III Rules:
-Name first element in formula first (full name)
-2nd element name into an "-ide" (not anions, no charge)
-use prefixes in front of each name to indicate the number of atoms
-never use "mono" prefix for the first element

ALL TYPES OF REACTIONS:
1) Combustion reaction
2) Double Displacement reaction
3) Single Displacement reaction
4) Synthesis (combination) reaction
5) Decomposition reaction
6) Oxidation Reduction reaction
7) Neutralization reaction

IN STOICHIOMETRY, PAY ATTENTION TO THE CONVERSIONS
-you can convert density (g/L) to grams by multiplying the amount of L
-you can convert grams to moles by using the amu given on the periodic table
-you can convert the concentration of an acid (M) by multiplying by the L
-you can convert the amount of something by using the mole value (6.022 x 10^23)
all calculations can be done vice versa
if you're stuck in stoichiometry, always convert to MOLES
