For a while, I enjoyed this game. I didn't get to the total endgame (1580GS), but it is a beautiful game. My problem is, once you have the raids down to a T and have a static raid group, it's just a chore.

The journey to learning the fights, and managing to clear the raids for the first time, that's when it's most exciting. FFXIV players know what I'm talking about, all the experienced raiders just compete for the highest parse- there isn't any challenge outside of not messing up your rotation that you optimize during each fight.

The journey to clearing each raid is an absolutely amazing adventure, albeit full of frustrations of course, but if you don't mind re-clearing them as a chore- this game is fun and the visuals are stunning. Your character is meant to feel like a powerhouse, and the visuals reflect that.

During the early access, just knowing that I'm going to be extremely limited (and only having played the early access during the first month of release where I was constantly crashing) kept me from doing anything beyond getting to the first "town" in Act 1. I told myself, I'm going to probably play it upon full release.

Now, I played through DOS2DE 4 times, I absolutely love that game, but I have no experience in Dungeons & Dragons. I had faith that if they delivered the type of storytelling, hid little bits and pieces in random nooks and crannies, and just the freedom of play that DOS2DE had, this game was going to be amazing.

The game released, and a friend of mine that isn't much of a gamer, has been cranking out 16-20 hour days of gaming with me because this game is just that good. As we hit certain points in the story, we're already talking about how we'll go about our next playthrough, and what we want to do different. We have been "save scumming" as the veterans of this genre call it, but we're intent on doing a "Hardcore" run where if we get wiped we delete the file (with no "save scumming").

That being said, we are currently about 80-90 hours into our playthrough, and we just started scratching the surface of Act 3. Getting here and having no sense of direction was a little overwhelming, but we're about to finish our hiatus to continue our journey without getting burnt out.

If you are new to the genre, take it slow and learn. One of the things my friend messed up on the most is clicking attacks on the floor when it isn't on a target and it hits nothing. There's so many ways to handle different situations, and even on a replay you'll figure out something new, again, and again, and again, as it was in DOS2.
