I wanted to write this review to say the following: if you are the owner of a Steam Deck and are hesitant to buy it because of the "Playable" compatibility - don't be. The game is 100% playable and extremely enjoyable on Steam Deck. I haven't had a moment where I seriously had to think about what I was doing or needing to adjust for the fact that I'm playing on the Deck.

This game is absolutely fantastic to play, a brilliant 3D platformer and a great, fun story with amazing visuals, characters, soundtrack, combat and more. I highly recommend you get it!

There's something about this game that's kinda like a warm hug from your auntie who lives up north. Perhaps you don't know her very well, the place is littered with cigarettes and booze bottles, there is the odd cabinet or weird smells coming from random places, and there might be some things that just seem grade A weird.

But in the end, when you give her a hug when visiting, it's a reminder from another person that you are loved and appreciated.

I love this game because it gives me a nice fuzzy feeling in its comfyness, while being quintessentially rooted in northern British culture. It makes me want to make some tea and offer some Jaffa Cakes or Jammy Dodgers to visiting friends while we talk about all the weirdness that has happened over the last few months since we last spoke.

If you're thinking about buying the game, please let this be a vote of confidence that you absolutely should experience it for yourself. There's nothing quite like it out there.

ALSO I AM SO SORRY ROY WILL YOU PLEASE FORGIVE ME???

Hmm. This is a tough one. I quite enjoyed my time with Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, but I feel like the content it provides leaves much to be desired. Plus, the DLC seem to barely add anything sooooo... I'd steer clear of this. I think Borderlands 3 has much more content (if only the story didn't smell as much, this game's story is serviceable at least) and better gunplay. The spells are nice but they're basically another ability or a grenade replacement.
Even after returning to this after a year or so, and playing through half the game... my feelings haven't changed. Fun for a game session or two, gets grating after a while.

Also, play this game with friends only. Solo is doable but it's much, much better to play co-op. Just like any real DnD game, really - which this also doesn't really hold a candle to imo.

edit: i edited this for the steam badge. my point remains

While Borderlands 3 has a lot going for it, I believe overall the game's just not worth it if you don't have a friend to at least play with. The gunplay is really fun, the weapons are hilarious and varied, and the look of the game is still awesome.

However, I had some nasty bugs to deal with in the middle of all that, and the main story (which I played the game for) was awful Ava is such an annoying, Mary Sue of a character, moving along happily while two fan favourite characters kinda just... die? For no real good reason? I don't really care for spoilers, it's just so badly executed.

If you have a friend to play with, pick it up. You'll at least be able to laugh at how bad the writing is. If you are expecting great characters and great writing, just like Borderlands 2, do stay away.

Update: After completing TVHM, spending some more time looking for things to do and continuing to ignore all the story elements and characters, my stance has not changed. Get the game when it's like, $5 or something. Then it's fun enough with friends.

I played this game for the puzzle aspect I swear

Edit: I stand by my original review, but I think Judgement is the cutest tbh

Edit 2: Also it has a new, free extra chapter called Examtaker. Go play it!
