I have EXTEMELY mixed feelings on this game. I don't want to NOT recommend this game, because of the work that went into it, but I also don't want TO recommend this game, because I personally didn't enjoy it. I wish there was a "meh" button.

The problem I had with the game was a few things. The first, was the crazy ass graphical effects. I'm not one to get headaches with video games, but I had one of the worst headaches from playing this game the two times I launched it up. Looking at certain things made me almost ill, and the problem was it was things I HAD to look at to get evidence, or otherwise. It was definitely not easy on the optics.

The other problem was it was BORING. I mean, I absolutely loved Layers of Fear, but this completely missed the mark for me. Layers of Fear kept me interested, the notes and puzzles pieces of a story kept me hooked on wanting to solve the mystery and wanting to know WHAT was going on - but this story? I just didn't CARE. I loved the aesthetic of this game, and I'm down for more of this sort of world, but there was a real distinct lack of world building that made SENSE. Sure, they threw snippets of story at you, but okay, you have one agoraphobe who won't come out because they're scared, and then someone who's turning everyone into organ samples in another apartment, and another who's building crazy tech in another to mindjack people? I mean, these are supposed to be basic apartments, right? Is the entire world THAT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?

So then it makes the larger arc of the story seem so mundane. I wanna know more about the vat of organ collector man. Who cares about his son? I WANT TO SOLVE A DIFFERENT MURDER!

It didn't help that the voice actor, in his attempt to sound grizzled and worn, just sounded like he was bored to death with everything.

I really feel like the game missed the mark. As a horror game, I wasn't horrified. It was an interesting walking simulator, for sure, a perfect headache simulator, and a really pretty Bladerunner homage. Get it on sale.

This game is a mixed bag, I won't lie. It's great, and kinda meh at the same time.

The main antagonists of the story are fantastic. Without divulging too much information for those who actually don't want to be spoiled, the primary baddies are GREAT. You get a good sense of dread from them, the boss fights are actually well done, and they're staggered apart pretty nicely. It's a good old RE formula that they didn't really need to mess with, and they played to their strengths and did it well.

The environments are creepy and really well done, and there's definitely a handful of downright uncomfortable areas for some people. Despite it being first person, it was a great horror game, and felt more like an RE game than RE6 (or honestly, RE5).

The downside is apart from the main bosses, the bad guy variety is garbage. Don't expect lurkers and hunters and all that jazz. Expect a generic "zombie" (if you will) and get used to that, and only that. It's not even particularly scary or intimidating, and it gets old REALLY quickly. While other RE games had the excuse of zombies, and then other predatory monsters to keep you on your toes, RE7 really fails to throw anything extra at you in terms of monster variety, which bummed me out.

The only other complaint I had was the final "act", involving the location change. That entire chapter was just boring, and unenjoyable. The fast pace of the homestead was far more enjoyable, and the location change really just threw the game balance off IMO, and for me, I lost interest in what was going on. A bummer, because the rest of the game was SO GOOD.

Regardless! The game was still fantastic, highly recommend it, AND all the extra content is A+, super fun. If they keep this sort of thing up with their games, then I'll be buying more RE games in the future, instead of when they're in the bargain bin anymore.

Okay, real talk.

I have never been so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HYPED for ZONING LAWS. Have you? I haven't. But here I am, blasting music at 4am making weed recreational and installing free smoke alarms in everyone's house because SAFETY FIRST YO. Dogs? WALK THEM. Cars? NOT IN THIS CITY. You bike to work, JIM. Pollution is a thing of the past, and it's party central. Worried about noise? Don't be, 'cause NO BIG TRUCKS IN MY TOWN. And if you wanna go far, get on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BLIMP. That's right, you heard me.

BLIMPS.

You ride in style in my city. Then if you get sick of your sick ass lifestyle, maybe you can take a SICK ASS CRUISE SHIP OUTTA THERE on a nice vacation, because I GOT THAT TOO. Next up? AIRPORTS. Private jets for EVERY CITIZEN.

Long story short: this game is awesome, and the custom content is rad as well. Some of the DLC packs are worth it, some aren't. Pick and choose at your leisure. But for city management, this game is one of my favourites, and I can play it for daaaays.

I wanted to like this game. I really did. I didn't hold it to a higher standard, but the same one that Outlast and Whistleblower placed.

This, to me, is nothing like the previous Outlast. Whereas before, I was terrified of being found, and lurked in the shadows and dark places to avoid being spotted by Mt. Massive's residents, here I mostly just was shouting "♥♥♥♥ it" and running like an idiot. The reason is, the game has an odd sense of punishment, and restart in place. Don't know the exact, tiny, minute place to go to? Time to die and start all over again!

The AI has some sort of godlike psychic knowledge as to where you are at all times, which makes the game almost unenjoyable. Chris Walker in Outlast pissed me off, sure, but that lumbering hulk had to FIND me. I'd have entire segments where I spent maybe 20 minutes in what could possibly be a 1 minute encounter sneaking, and he would never even know I was in the area - I was terrified! Here, you have a 7 ft Death Nun honing in on your position for the entire encounter like you're screaming the Gettysburg Address at the top of your lungs.

The game slows down horribly in the third "act", if you will, with the final level area being the most horrible, sloggish design I've had to deal with in a decent horror game.

As for the storyline? Hope you don't miss a single scrap of paper, otherwise you'll miss the entire plot about it being tied to the original Outlast, and making all of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ make sense!

Visually, the game is GORGEOUS. The voice acting is top notch, and the music (while I enjoyed Outlast's a bit more) was good. The character designs are interesting, and there's a hint of an amazing plot, but it's told so poorly that by the end of the game I just wanted it to be over.

All in all, wait until the game goes on sale, or you get it as a gift. At $30, it's not that bad of a pricepoint, just don't expect Outlast 1 / Whistleblower from it.

Been playing this game since beta - the devs listen to the community pretty well, and while at times make weird decisions, do seem to care about the health of the game. The killers are interesting and generally well thought-out (lolskullmerchant) and survivors bring interesting perks and fun cosmetics.
If you have just the base game, you can still play on all the maps, versus all the survivors/killers - you just can't play as them. You can unlock their perks via in-game currency, or spend it to unlock the characters themselves. They've reduced the Blood Point grind tremendously for new players.
It's just a fun game now. Definitely recommend with friends!

I cannot recommend this game enough. I got it on a whim because a friend posted a really weird picture of a character (later discovered to be Burgerpants) and went "lol wtf". So, being curious, I googled.

Honestly? The game didn't look like anything I'd be interested in. I'm not a huge bullet hell fan. But the artwork was so quirky, and the trailer cracked me up a little, so I figured "why not"?

BEST. MONEY. SPENT.

This game is AMAZING. Fantastic. I cannot lavish it with enough praise. The music, the characters, the twisting storyline - it's all there, and it's all endearing, heartwrenching, memorable. Your actions DO make a difference in the grand scheme of things, and there's all kinds of small hidden bits and pieces you can discover on multiple playthroughs. Characters you think "oh god, this is going to be obnoxious" you wind up loving, and growing attached to. Theme songs you can't stop playing after you turn off the game.

This game, out of all the ones I've played this year - and that's a lot - has stuck with me vastly. And that's saying something. It seems so simple, and it's just NOT. I can only hope you have the same experience I did, and enjoy it. It's an experience, yo.

The game still scared the everloving ♥♥♥♥ out of me - however, it comes to the same survival patterns to make sure you don't die towards the end (once you're done flipping out). I think what was missing here, because we know checking all the cameras is a waste of time, is making it that the cameras aren't really NEEDED. I have no reason to check cameras other than 11 or maybe 5 and 6, That's it. It's so disconcerting to see them spread out everywhere, so I feel like a mechanic where you HAVE to find them progressing towards you would be so much more rewarding.

Anyway, worth the $$. Get it, don't drink water.
