It's pretty drab, gloomy and uninspired. Granted it was the only one of it's specific type back in the day, it's still quite directionless and lackluster. If you like half survival and caveman technology, and being a brutal psycho murderer, I guess you'll like this. Otherwise you won't see the point and turn it off pretty quickly. To this day, it's still filled with tons of crappy bugs. I only play it as a time waster when my minecraft mods get broken by updates. Honestly, there are a million better games than this.

Pretty wicked little shooter, deserves more attention. It doesn't cost much for it's content, in which case looks like it shouldn't have much, but actually it just feels small, there's actually quite a bit of content here.

I'm terrible at bullet hell's like this game though, so I haven't even beaten it, but actually it's easier than it looks and sounds, other reviews on monolith tell a similar story, but they're actually good at this type of game and some of them beat it within their first couple tries.

The art style and sound profile is quite unique, and is worth experiencing for a while, it's genuinely a Pretty well made game. Way smoother than a lot of other pixel art titles.

It was good a year ago, it's brilliant upon release. TL:DR masterpiece of roguelite gameplay while not skimping on anything else! Pick it up, got it?

Ok so get this, Dead Cells and Enter the Gungeon will fail to keep attention for most people, because the more you play, the less variance in general and inorganic getting better at the game becomes. Dead cells fails fundamentally as a "rogue-vania" because it's metroidvania-like elements are, to be honest, total dogshet. No really I'm serious, go pick up Axiom Verge or Environmental Station Alpha, complete masterpieces within the metroidvania genre, experience the pinacle of gameplay in their genre, and the utter perfection presented by their design, progression, abilities, art, soundtrack, themes, story, all of it. Then attempt to go back to Dead Cells, you will be reeling in metroid pain! It just fails, the abilities are way too hard to find, disappointing, and too few and far inbetween. The progression is just built differently, and is both too linear and not linear enough. Even while being consistent with maps and areas, and not quite as randomly generated as other roguelites, it just doesn't work. Not to mention the abilities may as well just be flashy keys. But that's fine, the "rogue-vania" marketing of Dead Cells is just a cherry on top, the game is what it eneds to be.

Enter: Hades. Pretty much all the flaws in Dead Cells I mentioned? Every single one of them is accounted for in Hades. Absolute control over it's roguelite elements in a holistic, story-filled way that only Supergiant can handle ensures you will ALWAYS be fully interested in the game, and happy at progress. Not only that, every nook and cranny is dripping with it's own unique style, and bits of game and story are jammed everywhere. Even further, all those little bits add up, and create this huge bedrock layer of world building that just sucks you in whole and immerses you completely! If you don't like the setting, that's fine, no accounting for taste right? But I actually didn't like the original Bastion. Just wasn't into it's style. Thought the gameplay and soundtrack were a little drab and petrified. Hades? I'm swept away! Such fluid battle dynamic ensures a great organic expansion of your ability and knowledge within the game. A giant, stunningly beautiful, entirely hand drawn world the likes of Sundered and Gris, that's always there for you to see, make you just run everywhere in rigorous joy, instead of searching for the next walkable tile with bated breath. The dynamic original soundtrack kicks ass, and is sufficiently drenched in it's own style, so even if you don't like the particular sound font and prefer synth like me, you still really appreciate it. Oh, and if you go in expecting a bunch of platforming and metroid vania abilities and are like "where is it?" nope, don't expect anything typical. Hades has it's own way of doing things, and you will quickly learn to appreciate it's design for what it is. Honestly, it's like a 2D God of War! Wacky god characters and all. It is superbly crafted. Pick it up ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

Edit: I realise in post that I can summarise this game by saying spooky alien PC (Drone) building Simulator.

This game is wicked awesome, like it came straight outta my dreams! I've never seen so much intelligence and clinical creativity within a rogue-like/lite, and it's a shame there isn't more like this. Dude F dead cells, this game beats it by a mile, just out of sheer competence. Game even has it's own manual! Don't be fooled, this isn't just a walk in the park. You actually need to use your brain here, and you might get caught up in the atmosphere of it all. Both emotionally and literally. Some people get so caught up, it ends up being a horror game in the same vain as signal simulator, and for good reason. Silent with traces of enemy, but no actual proof of enemy (until it's too late). But also careful that your drone doesn't run too hot, or it will burn up and get destroyed when it enters the atmosphere. See? Told you.

Give it a play dammit! This is one of the best indie games I've ever played, I haven't felt this feeling since the enginuity of Furi or Hyper Light Drifter back in 2016. The only negative to this game is your sense of taste, and the fact that the designer doesn't have enough budget to make a sequel. Pick it up and support this guy so he can make another!!!

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, wicked psychological sci-fi horror on the level of interstellar, and it doesn't even have any monsters to justify you being scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Absolutely unparralelled in gaming right now!

One of my absolute favouritte games. I adore the atmosphere, game mechanics, abilities, art style and setting.

Some people really don't like a lot of the design choices in this game. For example some people say it's a button masher, and early on that's quite true.
But as the game progresses, you get some damn cool abilities which actually make combat pretty fun, and from that point on I say there's no excuse: the game is only as good as you can play it. Not necessarily just
as good as you can either, but cunningly and strategically making use of every move you have available, even down to a simple dodge.

Another critisism people have is that the roguelite mechanic of randomising the layout of the level after each death is very dissorienting and frustrating in a metroidvania like this, and that a lot of the smaller more insignificant hallways that change are too unmemorable to remember where you are and compounds the players lack of direction.
To be honest I did encounter that at the start. But to tell you the truth, after a while it was really a complete non-issue, I could navigate just fine, and it leads me to believe that people just don't know how to use a map properly. If it is the case that it's an issue of the player rather than the game, that would make a lot of sense for meatheads like Vinny and people who mainly play triple A titles, with in-world map markers that dumb down navigation.
I say that if you use the map properly, and navigate based on markers like the ability shrines, boss rooms and other non-changing, large rooms as land marks, you should be fine. Not to mention only the small insignificant rooms change, and you can still just look at the minimap for the exit to a room in a pinch. And about the small corridors being monotonous to keep looking at, well subjectively I just like being immersed in the games entire art style. Movement is quite fast as well, if you know how to use it.

Early Access-recension
This game started as the considerably better No Mans Sky, even a bit more interesting than halfway to modern NMS at some point's, and a somewhat worthy counterpart to Subnautica. Nowadays it's worse than release NMS in some ways. The thing is I put up with this game for so long because they kept putting out updates and talking about their work on the game. Now I can see most of it was lies. Not only have they cut such a large amount of content (♥♥♥♥ you for removing our beloved sandworm, you were the first to do it and do it well), but the content we do have is now just less functional and buggier. I don't know what they did to this game over the years but theres so much soul gone. It's similar to Subnautica Below Zero which I hate with burning passion, they gutted the soul of the game and clearly don't know what their doing or what made their original game good. I know they've done so many reworks and overhauls but honestly what did they even achieve? It's really un-fun and grindier than NMS now too, worse is the fact that you don't even get anywhere after that grinding, and the fun jetpack movement that made mobility and combat a bit more interesting is now gone.

Just go play Subnautica or Empyrion survival. NMS still feels really empty and pointless to me though even with all the new content. Honestly every survival sandbox dev just needs to play a lot of HEAVILY modded minecraft and take inspiration. Like Factorio a bit tbh. I saw a clip of the Bloons devs recently saying they won't make another because "you wouldn't ask for Minecraft 2" and I just thought to myself, well, actually I consider Minecraft a design failure in every way, so I would ask for it. We need a much better, WAAAY more optimised base for all the amazing community driven content that puts sandbox devs, bad ones like these or otherwise, to shame.

I really like this game, it has awesome physics, it allows you to flex your mechanical creativity, it has a lot of cool tools you can use. Most notably; unlike something like Space Engineers, it's functional. There is a reason to build contraptions in this game. Space Engineers just says "Spaec shipz, go!" but Besiege gives you a task, and allows designers to actually have a little inspiration and direction from somewhat of a client-designer relationship.
