A pretty chill game. There are some challenges but they're a nice change of pace. Their most recent update makes the game world feel less like bunch of fenced off islands. You can still fast travel to the ones you've visited. I look forward to see what their next DLC brings to the game!

Despite minor issues I've gotten with the game (I've listed them below) and the publisher mandate for micro-transactions (and the poor handling consumable of items from DLCs), it's been a fun ride so far. It's also stressful, but I find most stealth-based games stressful anyway :)

I want to take a moment and touch on people's opinion of Jensen. Maybe it's pointless to state it, but how people perceive Jensen is biased on how they play the character in the first place. In games, the player characters are supposed to be our proxy, a way for us to interact with the game world. If we pick decisions that make Jensen seem bored, then that's how he'll come across. So far, I've picked decisions that make him appear passionate to me. Of course, I have the social enhancer augmentation installed, but I found the answers that got me the best results tend to be worded with compassion.

Other than that, the game's fairly solid (even on day 1). I like that there's usually more than one or two ways of getting around. The game will funnel you into a specific spot from time to time, but that shouldn't surprise anyone.

Issues
As for the issues I've mentioned (basic computer specs: i5, GTX 960 (2GB RAM), 8GB RAM, installed on an SSD):
  • There's stutters and freezes while the game's loading maps/assets. The rest of Prague (north of the river) lags the worst, but waiting for about half a minute will clear it up. Mostly.
  • Don't save while Jensen is in cover, unless you don't see a cover traversal prompt. If you load that same save, there's a good chance he leave his cover and into enemy's line of sight. I had to go back to an earlier save once because of this. Keep in mind, I haven't tried to rebind the cover key (since I've already adapted to it). This was fixed in the patch released on August 30th.

Micro-transactions & Consumables
This has been touched on by other reviews, but I like to put my two cents in. The micro-transaction isn't in your face at all. I think the only way I could access it is by going to the main menu. I don't remember seeing it or being pestered to buy something from their store while in game.

The only thing that bothers me is how they handled consumables provided by the pre-order/DLCs. When they say one use, apparently they meant it literally. You only get to use it once on one save. It's probably using the micro-transaction system to deliver this consumable. I'm not happy about that, but I also disabled the consumable DLC so I don't have to think about it. I'm not sure how the weapons are handled. I get the sense that they're also save-locked. I never took them out, saving it for the hardest difficulty instead.

Honestly, the game was designed well enough that you shouldn't need the extra consumables anyway.

Ultimately, this does have me concerned regarding how micro-transactions is seeping into single player games. I would understand if they had it for their Breach mode (which I haven't tried yet), but for a single player game? And to have them save-locked? It's absurd, but not so much that I think the game deserves a bad review.

In the end, I'm having a lot of fun with this game. I believe it's worth checking out.
