this game is about making you feel like a horrible monster to survive and it's way more fun than it deserves to be. singleplayer was okay for me but the multiplayer is really the best.

really fun concept but is ultimately dragged down by the monetization of both cosmetics and unlockable characters. the battle pass is very tedious and grindy, and incentives players to prioritize those tasks over objectives lest they need to play another match to complete that quest and take even longer to finish the pass. as far as the characters go, the gameplay is ultimately based around perks which range from drastic playstyle changes to more subtle bonuses. you start with a small pool of original characters for free (plus bill from left 4 dead) but you can only do so much with their perks, a lot of the more useful ones come from original chapters which you can grind to unlock (although it will take ages to get even one character from a chapter) or the exclusively paid licensed chapters. locking perks behind a paywall isn't necessarily pay-to-win here but it does fundamentally affect the game balance by creating a divide between players that have or don't have a specific dlc. the game at its core cannot be balanced for this reason without making perks available to everyone. once you start prestiging survivors they essentially become skins anyway, only killers have actual gameplay differences. team fortress 2 has a similar system with unlockable weapons but in that game you can just play with a full stock loadout and you won't be at a disadvantage with any class and you also unlock those weapons (which 99% of are sidegrades) just by playing every week for up to 10 hours. in dbd, most characters don't even have 3 good perks, they may only have 1 or none at all and they're constantly changing. you'd have to prestige multiple characters to get a few "good" stock loadouts. this game can be really fun casually and i've had a lot of good memories of it with friends but i couldn't in good faith recommend it, it's too predatory

Good game, never played the original but I liked this remake a lot. Wish there was online co-op for story though, would've suited the gameplay very well. Also Mr. Krabs and the Theater require WAY too many shiny objects. I 100% the game besides the last 5 spatulas and the theater, and I'd have to grind for a good 2 hours just to buy the spatulas and get into the theater. Besides those 2 things it's a great game and it looks beautiful, especially Jellyfish Fields.
