The first third was the worst, the second third gets great in gameplay and the last third's gameplay is ehh, but the story picks up instead. Every step forward the game takes it takes two or three backwards in another way.

I have kept up with some of the updates and the inventory with the flashlight might be better now, but I DO NOT recommend the survivalist difficulty on first playthrough at least not the first third as it creates a horrid impression up to and including the first boss. I also do not recommend at all the tank controls and it even being a thing, I get it's a homage to older Resi style games but it does not lend into this. I cannot count on one hand the amount of times I entered a room and due to the enemies still patrolling their paths in rooms over that I just spawned in the next room inside them (or too close to be able to move out the way), and when it takes 2-3 hits to kill you yet 2-3 healing patches to equate to one hit, It was just not fun when it was just unavoidable damage, As I mentioned though this does clear up in the second third of the game as it felt a lot better designed in environmental layout.

It takes a lot of inspiration from a lot of other media be it games, shows and such yet it fails to really exceed in anything it takes inspiration from outside of just a poor imitation.

I do mean to give this a second chance with some changes that supposedly improve the game but initial impressions and playthrough are so soured and tainted by the experience, I just fail to see HOW this was so hyped.

==FREE WEEKEND QUICK 1HR REVIEW==
Even though I'm negatively reviewing this I MAYBE can recommend this.

Is it fun? Yes it is but it's the same problems I have as deceit, it's online playerbase is young and doesn't seem to know how to play. If the learning curve wasn't so prevalent and such the online might be fine. As it is you can probably get some great fun out of it with friends.

I enjoyed this over some other social deduction games because there isn't a WHOLE lot of power given to the kids it seems, Since they can't kill or vote out the neighbour in any way it means that even if the kids are snowballing around, the neighbour MAY be able to harass for time as a time-out is a neighbour victory.

Just some quick points:
  • Everyone runs around doing whatever they want
  • It has similar issues I have with "Deceit" with as soon as someone sees the neighbour transform they can just alert everyone that x the neighbour,
  • Mic always on by default so just hear random people talking about other conversations and stuff, had one young player shout "I am the neighbour omg" as his mum responded in the background.
  • At the same time you can hear them through wallls so as a killer you pretty much know where everyone is at all times
  • The game isn't clear at all in it's objective and the people don't seem to know what's going on. my first game we stockpiled the keys and keycards whilst the neighbour just camped the place you have to take them. I didn't open any doors because I didn't know how the game worked
  • Ravens appear that will crow ontop of key locations (you need to take like 3x blue 2x red 1 gold key to the main door) but the crow can appear on locations where the key was already gone which is good and bad as it can happen like 4 times in a row at locations where there is no key. At least there are more than enough of each kind of key to exit

--FREE WEEKEND--

--DON'T COMPARE IT TO DEAD BY DAYLIGHT--

I'm going to start this by saying this is very much more like Left 4 Dead Versus mode but 1v5 than anything else I've personally played especially considering 3/4 of the killers are just a special infected from L4D.

To keep this short and sweet i'll just list the issues I have with the game: Playerbase isn't experienced to the curve, no ranking system, no dedicated servers often laggy games, sound mixing awful some sounds just randomly really loud people are quiet even at max VOIP, the push to talk is randomly on sometimes at the start of a mission, the giant is the only enemy in the game that causes a controller to vibrate if it's plugged in and no option to turn this off, when partied only the leader can see if it's searching, unable to edit options whilst ingame and no killer progression outside of skins, sometimes your character just seizes and you lose all control even after respawning and finally 'escort' based objectives only show the destination to the player who is holding the item.

With the main problems out of the way I will try to highlight some good aspects of the game: Personally I think the art style works for it, it's got a certain B movie teen horror feeling to it although the game is not scary in the slightest. The classes are varied and encourage diversity to cover all areas with a medic, scout, technician and assault. If you get a group of 4 others that understand the game and a killer that is competent but not crazy good it can be quite fun with a nice back and forth of being perfectly okay to a little struggle against the killer. For the most part the weapons feel fine to use and the cost required to make them is just enough that you want to use them sparingly enough to not throw it immediately away but you know you can just search a couple containers to get the resources to make another, it's a good balance.

Overall I just really cannot recommend the game, if there are 5 of you to play a full team of survivors then it can be fun, but don't get sixth as there are no private servers, it may also work at 3 but are you willing to roll the dice on the last two? It's incredibly flawed but has a strange charm and maybe 1 out of 10 games will give you a splatter-house of fun before quickly wiping away as you load into another laggy mess.

4/10

Excellent little more-ish puzzle adventure, definitely worth it although it is a little short at about a couple hours for the first run.
