Advanced Access Evaluation (Chap 1 & 2)

In my opinion, Double Exposure is a good follow-up to the original story and, beyond that, a really enjoyable game. I would clearly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the previous Life Is Strange games.

The game has great characters, a captivating storyline, and above all, amazing mechanics thanks to Max's new powers.

No real spoilers below.

Mechanics: 7/10

Max’s ability to switch between universes offers plenty of exploration opportunities and extends the gameplay time, especially for those like me who enjoy exploring and playing at a relaxed pace. You can use this power to solve various puzzles and problems, which reminds me of the feeling I had when playing the very first Life Is Strange—a feeling I haven't quite found again in the later games.

I’m deducting some points because, in my opinion, the puzzles linked to Max’s powers lack challenge and are too easy to solve, but this aligns with the current trend of video games leaning toward simplicity.

I hope to see a connection between this new power and the ending of Life Is Strange 1, and I believe we’ll discover that in the next chapters. If not, at least I’ll be surprised!

Characters: 8/10

The characters are likable, and their writing follows the overall tone of the game. Since there are two universes, there are two versions of each character, which makes it very interesting to see how relationships evolve between them in the different worlds (though it can be a bit confusing at times O_O).

Having two versions of each character also complicates things when it comes to solving our investigation, which is something I really enjoy.

Storyline: 10/10 (for now)

The story is still quite vague at this point, but I expect chapters 3, 4, and 5 to be longer than the first two. That being said, the plot is good so far, putting us in situations where it’s quite difficult to make decisions and predict the impact they’ll have. I really enjoy this feeling in these kinds of games, so I’m not disappointed at all.

It’s also tough to predict a “culprit” or the overall plot, unlike in previous Life Is Strange games where I had figured out much of the story within the first chapters.

Although the puzzles you solve using Max’s powers are “too simple,” as I mentioned earlier, the way the power is used to solve the investigation is quite fun. It has that little element of searching for clues in both universes and trying to piece them all together.

Finally, Chapter 2 ends with a great cliffhanger, leaving me eager to dive into the next chapters. So far, I like the direction D9 is taking with this game.

I did encounter a few bugs with the loading screen, but this is an early access game, and I was still able to play without any major issues, so I think it's okay.
