I never took the game seriously. I always felt like it was a game you would play to waste time. You could always leave a game without being punished and there would always be that one guy who bought every taunt and would do nothing but stand in the middle of fights playing Russian or Cuban music. I'm amazed some people actually care about team composition and available weapons.

Just because the game is "old" doesn't mean it should be given free passes. The fact that tf2 does such a poor job at EDUCATING new players on how to play the game is part of the reason why it's on the decline right now. That and the fact that the new updates are so poorly put together that it's easy to lose interest in the game.
At this point, the anger directed at tf2 is pretty well deserved. Competitive games are rarely balanced with almost always having someone that "shouldn't be playing comp". Simply put, tf2 doesn't do a good job at distinguishing between what new players SHOULD do so have a better transition in the game. That's why you rarely see good snipers/spies in casual. They're attractive classes to play for someone that's new to the game, sure, but the fact that there is so much complexity to the game that's not accurately relayed to players makes for oddly balanced games.
Final note, yes I do think tf2 is a game with lost potential. They could have done so much more with it. Competitive should have been implemented years ago for example.

Something to remember is that TF2 used to be a lot better. We had pubs and that had way more balanced matches and was more fun to play than the current system. Though an obvious lack of easily accessible Comp is pretty sh*tty.
To be honest, it is uninformed to say that people don't take this game seriously. There is a damn, damn good game behind all of its many flaws, and this game, has serious heart and soul. Nowadays new players won't experience that because of how much Casual and Competitive can turn them off to it. Believe me, there is a real gem of a game here. Its rock solid. But it needs some serious work to undo the mistakes of the previous updates.


It used to be good, now it's mediocre. Which is a damn shame. I had some good times and met good people/friends on this game. But it got changed so much, for some people it was a good thing and for some it was a bad thing. Unfortunatly for me it was bad, because I ended up disliking a game, a game I liked very much back at it's day. Or shall I say, back at "The good old days".
