Maniac Mansion is a classic point and click adventure from 1987 that features multiple characters, which in turn affect how the puzzles can be solved, and it even has some dead-ends and different endings. Way ahead of its time. It's very RPG-like, and that was what caught my attention back then.

For a very similar experience you can also try the game "The Castle".

There are many easy-to-pick-up games out there and Race The Sun is one of the best.

For the kids that didn't play DOOM in the 90s it's hard to explain... But this thing blew EVERYONE away. Everybody with a PC was playing it. I remember hauling my 386 PC over to a friend's house during a whole summer just to play LAN matches all afternoon.

Old school hack'n'slash ARPG. Amazingly still supported to this day with patches and new content. Highly recommended.

A very well executed love letter to 50's sci-fi films, the game is pure style and it's worth the price for that alone.
