How i almost slept on one of my favorite games of all time:

I didn't hear about God of War until long ago, i think it was around 2019 when i first saw some gameplay and i really noticed people freak out about this game. But i didn't have a console and wasn't really into it at first, so i didnt watch theRadBrad or any other creator do the playthrough.

Fast forward to the 8th of December 2021, 3 days before my birthday, i opened my phone in the morning and did my daily routine browsing through youtube and i see it. God of War PC Release. I got really intrigued by that teaser, 1 minute of perfect balance between action, character presentation and, damn, that soundtrack had me so soooo bad.

I love reading and gathering information about the Norse Mythology, seeing that this was a game based on this particular thing got me really hyped about the re-release on steam.
So yes, was feeling enthusiastic about this game and i really got to the point where i was watching that teaser multiple times a day, but my worry was that my PC wouldn't be able to run the game.

Days passed by and now it was January, it felt harder and harder to be patient because i really wanted to get to play this supposed masterpiece. Finally, maybe 2 days after it finally released, i bought it and it was time to finally get it started.

God. Of. War. 100% my favorite game of all time. The game that got me to want to understand the whole francise, to see all the videos online about Kratos and his past, to watch any guide imaginable about how to defeat the current game and do all the smaller and bigger side quests. I absolutely love this game and i feel like i don't have enough time to spend exploring and finding new things myself by playing it as i would like. I enjoy everything about it:

The gameplay:
In my opinion its the perfect balace between enjoying the 3rd person action based gameplay, the building story and relationship between Kratos and *gasps* BOY and the history that was being re-written about the Norse Gods and the coming of Ragnarok.

The characters:
Everybody in this game has a rich story behind them, from Baldur and the drama behind his mother's curse on him, to obviously Atreus that is trying to prove himself and to his father after the death of his mother, and Kratos that feels so scared to get emotionally attached to his son because he wouldn't be able to lose him aswell as he lost everything dear to him before.

The plot:
The emotional impact of Faye's death has had on Kratos and Atreus is being felt through the entire playthough of the game. Kratos is talking to himself asking what Faye would do in his situation, even saying that he isn't ready and he is not prepared to move forward without her, Atreus wishing that it was his father that died instead of his mom, everything is insanely well written about their story.

The setting:
Everything looks absolutely gorgeous. Freya's home is the incarnation of the paradise, The Lake of the Nine is a great main location to hover around and take your time to search every little nook and cranny. All the realms having their own feeling, some more welcoming than others. The giants in this game were mindblowing for me. When i first saw Jormungandr and Thamur i became speachless. I've never played a game that gave me the feeling that i am so small comparing to the world around me.

The combat:
I have't played a lot of games like this one, but the combat felt natural. I didn't feel any awkwardness while fighting, throwing my axe, doing combos and all of those felt amazing and intuitive. Such a good management of the controls made even myself look good while fighting those Valkyries.

Final conclusion:

God of War as a game and as a francise is the absolute pillar of long term story telling and the execution of the transition from the previous style of the first GoW games to this one is flawless.

I love learning things about this game, i love understanding the lore behind Kratos and the other characters around him, everything about God of War makes me more curious about what might happen next and how Ragnarok is going to affect this Universe.
Absolutely one of the all time best, if not the one. 10/10 in my books, can't say anything bad about it.

I just hope Santa Monica Studio try to port all the GoW's to PC someday, so i can not only see the evets happening previous to this modern masterpiece, but to play and experience them myself. <3
