An endlessly interesting story-oriented action tower defense game, in which the main character--Ignace--seeks to build a tower to the heavens in order to free his wife Lucile from an unending slumber, while commanding an enigmatic walking fortress known as Burggeist to aid him.

When not defending your tower from Abhorors as it grows, you explore an open world with some fun magic traversal abilities; finding new weapons to affix to Burggeist, completing tasks for eccentric strangers, and attempting to piece together what little you can about the nature of the world. The presentation hearkens back to works from visionaries like Yoko Taro or Team ICO, even if its exceedingly small development team prevents it from reaching similar levels of polish. Even then, I never felt myself really dwelling on its jankier aspects for too long, when there were so many other interesting things tugging me along through its comfy little story.

There's palpable passion in every facet of this game, and in a gaming landscape like today, a rarity like that alone is worth giving it your attention. Through all of its' rough edges, BURGGEIST is living proof that so long as you care deeply about what you're creating, others will feel that shine through every time.

There aren't many games that I'd be willing to use the word "perfect" for, but OMORI would certainly be one of them. From the very start of the game to the end, every aspect seems to ooze passion and care; from the memorable music tracks, to the beautiful art style, and unique take on turn-based combat.

I'd recommend OMORI to anyone I know. It's a story that every person should be able to experience at least once. And while I may not have been a part of the nearly seven year wait that others endured, I still greatly look forward to OMOCAT's future endeavors all the same.
