Short Version: Play the game. Its probably one of the best open-world games out there. Great Characters and Story and an Engine that's easy to understand within a few minutes.

Long Version:

Despite being partially incomplete, this is probably the only thing that connects makes the entire Metal Gear Timeline complete and is considered as the Final Game in Big Boss' Storyline.


Gameplay: Like the game before it, The Phantom Pain uses the new FOX Engine. If you know how to actually play Metal Gear then you can easily understand the controls within a few minutes. Compared to Ground Zeroes, The FOX Engine is more developed and updated as this time the engine is tuned to for the open-world environment of Afghanistan and Africa. Mission-Wise, Its pretty well made with the right kind of difficulty and there are only a few times with some cheap deaths. Also Kojima's in the game (again).


Story: Nine Years ago, Militaires Sans Frontières (MSF), A Private Military Group led by the Legendary Soldier Big Boss was attacked by an unknown force known as XOF. The attack led to the destruction of MSF and Big Boss fell to a coma. The Year now is 1984, Big Boss awakens and was attacked by XOF again, He escapes with the help of an old friend, Revolver "Shalashaska" Ocelot, who then brings him to Northern Kabul, Afghanistan to rescue MSF's Second-in Command, Kazuhira Miller. After his rescue, They return to Mother Base, the off-shore base of their new Private Military Group, Diamond Dogs. Back on his feet, Big Boss will take revenge on those who destroyed MSF and take vengeance for his loss.


Connection with the next game: If you have Ground Zeroes, You can upload your save data to The Phantom Pain. Items acquired from the game such as the Uragan-5 Pistol can be in its default form. Characters extracted from Ground Zeroes can also be transferred to TPP such as Intel Agent Kojima, Glaz, Palitz, and The undercover CIA agent.


Online Features: In TPP, You can extract enemy soldiers and prisoners from fulton packs and they can be Mother Base Staff Members. These are divided into Five: Combat Unit, R&D, Base Development, Support Unit, Intel Unit, Medical Unit. The Combat Unit can be used online and offline for Dispatch Missions where they can destroy enemy storage units (Offline), Get Resources, Recruit New Members, VIP Protection, etc. There are also FOB missions where you can infiltrate an enemy base. Finally there is Metal Gear Online (MGO), where you basically battle other players in a battle royale kind of thing. However most of the time (in my experience), Servers are mostly empty or have Pro players beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of you.


In Summary, If you want to complete the Metal Gear Series or get a taste of Metal Gear and the New FOX engine then play this game.

This game is Probably the only thing that Connects Peace Walker and The Phantom Pain and it is recommended that you play this first before playing The Phantom Pain



Gameplay: The Game is Short but is worth playing. You can probably finish this within an hour or two if you know how to play MGS. In this game, the FOX Engine used in Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain is still kinda new during its release which means it still has some flaws but other than that, it works. Also it has Kojima so this game gains plus points.

Story: In Summary, The game takes place months after Peace Walker. You play as Big Boss, The Legendary Soldier and Founder and Commander of Militaires Sans Frontières, A Private Military Company. Your mission is to infiltrate Camp Omega, A US Black Site in Cuba. You have to extract two targets and upon arriving home to Mother Base you find out that the Base is attacked. You escape with your Second In-Command Kazuhira Miller, only to end up crashing in the ocean inside the Helicopter you are in because one of the targets had a bomb insider her and it detonated. Big Boss falls to a Coma along with an unnamed Combat Medic while Miller sustained minor injuries. MSF was destroyed as a result of the attack.

Connection with the next game: Your save data can be transferred to The Phantom Pain. Items acquired from the game such as the Uragan-5 Pistol can be transferred to the Phantom Pain in its default form. Characters extracted from the Extraction Chopper can also be transferred to TPP such as Intel Agent Kojima, Glaz, and Palitz
