Great if you wan to have some casual fun with friends with a great progression system if you want to dedicate more time to it.

I would only recommend this if you really _really_ liked Starcraft 1 custom maps because that's definitely what this game fells like. There are more things wrong with this game such as:
-Repetitive gameplay.
-No mid mission saving (and they can be 1h + missions that you fail at the very end)
-Really awful "Hero" missions where the hero doesn't have special abilities and it mostly involves attack moving and kiting.
-Really simple "tower defense" missions that are really shallow and not much fun to solve since the most effective strategy is spamming units.
-Story that's barely there, delivered through literally same cutscene with different dialogue and some text entries that fill the in game world's "history".

Spite of this, it scratched a certain itch that somehow managed to keep me engaged till the end. The only thing I can really compare it to is the same fun I used to have when playing Starcraft 1 custom maps. Even if it was frustrating and tedious at times.

If you want to be more depressed during a depressing winter this is the city management for you.

Mechanically rich but really easy to get into with a quick enough pace to keep you hooked until it's morning again.

A fun way to find out how good people are at lying to you.

Game is pretty fun. It is different enough from x-com that scratches that x-com glitch while also providing a unique experience. Thematically, this game knocks it out of the park with its presentation with great writing, amazing sound design, good art direction and decent graphics for a "budget" game.

If you're reading this it's probably because of Mandalore's review. If not, do yourself a favor and find it on youtube since it describes this game far better than I could and nails everything that's good and bad with this game pretty accurately.

Some additional information:
Controller support in this game is pretty good since for the most part it's not just emulating a cursor. You can navigate menus and actions with analog stick movement directly instead of dragging a cursor. The only downside to controller support is the cohort customization menu in which you can't really see the model of the techpriests once an item description is loaded. There are some minor UI glitches here and there but for the most part it's pretty good and completely playable on a controller.

Fun game. Unfair as ♥♥♥♥ sometimes.
