behind the frame: the finest scenery is something I didn't expect to love as much as I did. i initially bought it bc i thought it looked really stunning and had beautiful art but i left out of the game crying because of how it manages to tell a really wonderful story with basically minimal dialogue.

this game is a work of art both figuratively and literally; drop-dead gorgeous visuals and animation, a heartwarming soundtrack, and a short-but-bittersweet sort of narrative. the gameplay surprised me with how engaging it felt as the way it plays with the camera to add perspective to what are really just large 2D backgrounds really helps you feel like you're a 'part' of them. it's barely 1-2 hours long but it doesn't really need to be anything more than what it is.

the additional DLC story however (playable free of charge, though it released much later than the original game), completes this experience. it's a 'separate' story with a different protagonist, however whose experiences parallel the main game.

there's something about real stories of unrequited love that speak to me in particularly deep ways, and this quaint little game stole my heart in every possible way. make SURE you play the additional 'DLC' story after finishing the main game, as I believe it is a part of the core experience.
