Let me start by saying I have never played Wipeout. I played F-Zero GX for like 30 minutes back in the day and never touched it again. Games in this genre that I have played are XGRA: Extreme G Racing Association, Redout and GRIP. XGRA is by far my favourite, probably due to nostalgia. Redout gets really frustrating and not fun at the higher speed classes and the controls are too loose. GRIP is great all round.

I was initially a bit sceptical due to some of the lukewarm reviews but Pacer is a very fun game. The controls are great. I never feel like I don't have control of the craft I'm piloting. Very responsive and easy to get used too.

The career mode has you accepting racing contracts for certain teams and then completing races, (minimum bronze medal to advance) and completing team objectives like get the fastest lap or destroy 3 other craft in each race. There are over 70 races to complete in career mode. You start in F3000 (slowest) and progress to F2000, F1000, and finally all the way up to Elite (fastest). The game has 5 ship types which is a bit small but you have the ability to upgrade each of them through loadouts where you can adjust visuals, performance and weapons. Please note, in career mode you are racing for a team so you cannot change the the craft you're using or the visuals.

The game has 14 race tracks. Each can be raced during the day or night. Each track also has a reverse and mirror version. This brings a lot of variety and fun. I have tracks where I prefer the reverse version to the standard version. Really good stuff. One thing to note, certain tracks are absolute cancer in F1000 and Elite speed classes. I managed to complete the career but the final Elite races can be frustrating on certain tracks because of this. This is just the way it is with these kind of game so keep this in mind when you get to F1000 and Elite speed class.

The soundtrack is amazing. I don't know any of the artists but the music selection is substantial and suits the mood of the game. You can turn off songs you don't like as well. I advice lowering the effects volume to 25% if you want to hear the music properly.

Performance is great. I'm playing this on a Ryzen 7 2700 and a 1080 Ti at 1440p max settings and the framerate is 100+ most of the time. Only one track has issues with slowdown (Satawold) not sure why. The framerate didn't dip below 60 but my GPU usage drops down to 50% often on that track. No bugs or crashes in the 10 hours I've played.

I did not play multiplayer but from what I have heard it's not very active. If you want multiplayer racing join the discord and you might find other players willing to do online races. There is also no split-screeen which is a shame. I hope this is added in the future.

I recommend this game. It's fun, has a lot of content and looks great. Well worth the asking price.

Disclaimer: I have not encountered any bugs in my 40 hours of playing Update 1.3, I did, however, start a new save.

I've had No Man's Sky since day one. Last time I played the game was 2 months after launch. I did come back after Pathfinder, but never made it off the planet and quit. I've put in about 40 hours into my current save since Update 1.3. I see a lot of threads about how the game is not worth $60, how it is little content to justify the asking price, some even saying it's not even worth with the 60% discount it had a week ago. These claims are absurd from my point of view, here is why:

Story: More than 30 hours of new story has added to the game. The Atlas path has been revamped and tells a mysterious story which I won't spoil here. I'm still in what I would describe as the early parts of the story and it has me intrigued far more than it ever did in 1.0. I'm enjoying it and looking forward to uncovering more of the mystery. Think the origins of the universe and what it means to be alive. I will leave it at that.

You also have monoliths and ruins spread out across the galaxy. These tell the history and background of whatever race inhabits that system. It's a great source of lore and it informs the player of the history of this universe they are in. These monoliths give you an understanding of that race's culture and customs. It gives the universe a lived in feel. Some of the races are distrustful of one another, some are sworn to help the Traveller (you) whenever possible.

Then you have the bases. You get to recruit people to help you build your base. They are not just some random npc's with no personality. These people have back stories and their own quests. They give you schematics and things you need to improve your base but at the same time, you get to know a bit more about each of them and how they are coping with the demands and expectations of their race and culture. They also give you more insight about their race. You end up caring for them.

Gameplay: Gameplay has also been improved upon. You have ship classes for explorers, traders, and fighters. You can choose whatever ship class fits your play-style or buy yourself a freighter and store your favourite ships on it. Scanning fauna and flora grants higher payouts when you install the appropriate upgrades, making exploration not only fun but also rewarding and lucrative. Upgrades can be acquired in many ways; some can even be bought, cutting down on the rng we had back in 1.0. Combat has also been revamped making more fun and challenging. Combat has never been the focus of No Man's Sky but it is a welcome improvement.

We now have quests that can be acquired aboard space stations. These range from explorer, combat or delivery missions, something for everyone. They give you units or specific items, as well as reputation for faction specific quests. Planet generation is vastly improved. Planets now have more varied biomes thanks to improved high resolution textures and foliage. It's fun to actually spend time on a planet and find something new, instead of seeing all you will ever see with the first few minutes of landing. More flora has been added as well allowing for absolutely beautiful garden worlds. The creature generation has also been improved and a lot of the creature bugs that were seen in 1.0 are non-existent.

The bad: Like every game No Man's Sky has it's own set of issues. Performance has decreased with the 1.3 update. This I believe is tied to the high resolution textures and should be optimized soon. AMD owners have had the most issues with texture bugs and the like. Some Nvidia users are reporting less than stellar performance as well, but far less than those with AMD hardware. Some quest bugs have been reported as well, some which I contribute to people not reading the quest and ending up stranded with no warp-cell to leave the starting system and having to farm to get the necessary component to build one. It is advised to start with a fresh save if you are a returning player. In my 40 hours with the update I have not experienced any bugs.

Is No Man's Sky worth it? Definitely. Update 1.3: Atlas Rising has raised the game to a whole new level. It is the game that should have launched a year ago. Hello Games have worked tirelessly to improve the game and it shows. They should be applauded for that. No Man's Sky os not just a game, it's an experience. It really satisfies the explorer in me. As a kid I always dreamt of living on the Enterprise D, travelling the galaxy, now I finally can.

No Man's Sky launch ver. 1.0 = 5/10
No Man's Sky Update 1.3 = 8/10
