Ok. I should write this review because apparently people still read them and think what other people say is important to their experience. I really didn't want to write this, given NGS's current place as a game, but I felt that I had to, since the largest review I saw was a negative one, and that says something to people looking to get the game and try it.

First, I will make this clear. I have been playing since about 1-2 months before PSO2 came to Steam. I will also say that NGS and base PSO2 are completely separate, and this review will be on NGS, since this is what new players will be experiencing 99% of the time.

Ok, but is it good? Should I play it?
Right now, I think that the game is incapable of supporting long-term hardcore players due to the lack of end-game content. I would love for you to start and play this game, but I insist that you take your time. Don't rush through the content, or else you will end up with nothing to do but level classes and seek drops that are unimaginably rare. The update coming around April 20th will include a new activity aimed at high level, end-game content, and I look forward to it. The only reason I still play is because I want it to be good, and I believe that it will be, eventually. Just, please don't dismiss this game and throw it into the "Ignored" bin on Steam. Let it age. I believe that it could age like wine, turning into something many can enjoy and share with one another.

Any glaring issues? Why are the current recent reviews mixed?
There, once again, is the glaring issue of lack of endgame content. Once you complete the "Story" you will have nothing to do but level your classes, upgrade your gear, and wait for urgent quests. Speaking of the "Story", there basically is none. The whole thing is go from area to area and kill big boss to unlock the area as a grinding spot. The main character (you.) is an actual fill-in-the-blank character. Ultimately, it is just your female companions dragging you from place to place and speaking while killing "le big scary monster that does bad things off screen." If you are looking for a story, NGS is the wrong place. Another issue is the UI. Although intuitive to people like me, that is because I have basically memorized where everything is, the UI is a mess for anyone unacquainted with it. Every time I play with someone I know, I have to list from menu to menu to direct them on where to go. The players you meet in-game will also be a little "Unique", but I place this simply on the "Free multiplayer Steam game with customization" tab.

Ok, but there's gotta be some good, right?
Yes, there is. For one, I like the variety of styles you could use to play, from long-range launcher/rifle, to ultra-close twin daggers/knuckles. The fact that there is no existing end-game content right now could also be seen as a positive, exclusively here, since you can play whatever you want to still do well. Another good thing is the actual visual design of the game. I enjoy the sci-fi aesthetic a lot, which is another reason I still play this game. The weapons look cool, and each have unique abilities (except the seasonal weapons, which all have the same "potential"). Another good thing is that you can get by perfectly fine without spending a single penny. The "Personal Shop" allows for players to sell items to one another, and these items go from weapons to armor to phashion. There are these gacha mechanics that typically include phasion, which can be rolled using (most of the time) exclusively AC, a paid premium currency. However, this problem can be solved via the Personal Shop. Instead of sinking your wallet into a scratch ticket, in the hope that you get what you want, you can just save up meseta (the free currency) to buy it off of the Personal Shop. Although access to selling items on the personal shop is restricted to Premium players, a f2p player can still get access to selling. This will require a little bit of playtime however, as these f2p access to the Personal Shop is locked behind the 3-day pass, which are part of the "Battle Pass" system, but can easily be reached by logging on sometimes just to do your daily and weekly tasks.

Ok, that was a nice block of text, but I'm not reading all of that, summarize please.
Game is good for new, soft-core players now, maybe hardcore players later. Game not good for story. Contains some weird people. Looks cool. Capable of being enjoyed f2p. Don't try too hard.
NGS launched under terrible circumstances, which absolutely butchered the player base, and I think its not something that SEGA will be able to undo. No matter how hard you try, you can't outrun first impressions.

Resources
If you choose to play the game, here are some resources. These resources are things like the wiki, which I use almost every time I play, and a content creator which I like.
Wiki, is a little all over the place, but can teach you almost anything you want to know [pso2na.arks-visiphone.com]
Keroppi, PSO2 content creator who I like to watch
Fanmade PSO2 discord server, with people who you could ask almost anything. [discord.gg]
