Pointlessly open some empty boxes, in this pointless and empty game. I’m positive I’ve seen that background asset before too, but it hardly matters.

Most reviews are comparing this to the Soulsborne series and as far as difficulty, move set and setting (Bloodborne specifically) go, that’s a pretty fair comparison.

The big difference is that those games all have massive 3D environments to explore and fight in. The 2D perspective and limited animations do have a negative effect on the combat and the level design. There isn’t a lock on so enemies can be difficult to hit and the flat plane makes it tricky to target and avoid enemies. You will die, a lot, and it feels less ‘hard but fair’ than the Soulsborne games.

Having said that, this is well worth trying out for the setting and the atmosphere. The combat also does get a little easier (and more enjoyable) with practice. This one is free now too, so no excuse if you’re a Souls fan.

From the overly sensitive camera that swings wildly when you move, to the awkward view point and poor targeting system, this game completely fails as an action RPG. It also has terrible dialogue and extremely dated and obfuscating visuals.
Give up, Skeleton!

The campaign is a mashup of Dawn of War I and II, which might sound appealing to fans of the formers strategy roots and the latter’s action RPG elements. Unfortunately it’s a watered down version of both games, rather than a best of both worlds.

I can’t really recommend the game full price (for just the campaign), especially after Relic announced they’d be dropping support for the title. At a huge discount I’d say it’s worth buying, but only for completionists and fans of the previous titles.

Despite being a lesser version of both it still retains some of the elements that made those games fun. Ultimately though, this is a disappointing end to a franchise I thoroughly enjoyed; in both its guises.

Hunt Down The Freeman is a Half-Life game developed by people who don't understand game design or the Half-Life games, on a fundamental level. Check out my first impressions video for more about what I think of this broken experiment.

You could almost compare Valve to an abusive parent for its treatment of a particularly beloved franchise and this distribution platform; let’s do that shall we.

First off we have the incredibly popular Sarah Steam, the golden goose of the family. Valve will seemingly let anyone put their bits into their prized ♥♥♥♥♥. It doesn’t seem to matter how reprehensible the person is, or how rotten the bits, so long as the fee is paid. For as little as $100 Sarah will open her legs to all comers, respectful or not. Protests from friends and well-wishers fall on deaf ears. Valve is a cruel master, a pimp without standards.

Then we have poor, forgotten, Harry Half-Life, who was once the apple of his parents eye. When Sarah and her cousins proved more profitable, Harry was locked away. Occasionally Valve will drag him out of his prison to show the world he’s still alive, sometimes they’ll even let people play with him. Usually the play is perfectly innocent and outcome is positive. Occasionally though, someone will make Valve an offer they can’t refuse and on these occasions, Harry gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥. And so does Sarah. Valve watches on with indifference.

BombTag looks a lot like the early access game, Bombinator, which itself looked like a Bomberman clone, only with Minecraft people and sliding. The jokes on Bombinator though, because I actually managed to get a game going in BombTag and the interface wasn’t horribly confusing.

BombTag is enjoyable enough to begin with, but I can see it getting boring fairly quickly because there isn’t a whole lot of content, with limited maps, items and gameplay modes. There isn’t really a whole lot you can do with Bomberman in all honesty and this 'version' does nothing new. I also had a slight problem with the movement through lanes which isn’t fixed like in Bomberman and occasionally means you get stuck on objects or drop bombs in places you didn’t mean to.

A late knight distraction that will, for a short amount of time, make you forget about your miserable existence and inevitable, lonely demise. It’s incredibly simplistic and forgettable but it might give you some chuckles. A Borderline recommendation because it’s free although I don't think it necessarily belongs on Steam.

The biggest problem I have with Blood Waves is the bizarre decision to use awkward survival horror shooting mechanics. This kind of third person, aim down sights combat, helped create tension and panic in old horror games, but in a fast paced arena/horde game like this it’s horrible. You want run and gun third person shooting here.

I also have a problem with the rogue-like nature of death being the end of your run. This game doesn’t have a save state either so you can’t quit out and continue that run at a later date. This would be bearable if the game was designed as a rogue like, with great variety in each run, but it isn’t.

I’m not really sure those two things can be altered in early access as they’d warrant changing the essential game mechanics, but the promised new maps will help a little with the later. I’ve included more suggestions in my video but key rebinding is a must and a more animated main character would be nice.

If you could fix all my main issues there might be something interesting and fun here, but as of now there is no reason to play this over something like Orcs Must Die or any number of Zombie games.

A horde mode with beard combat mechanics and Goat Simulator style physics and randomness. LOLsorandom is probably meant to be the appeal here because the game itself isn’t very complicated or fun past the initial, haha it is a beard I am using to hit things that also have beards!

There is mild amusement to be had initially so as it's free you can make up your own mind.

Just like with their previous title, Heroes tactics, I’ve no idea why you’d play this on PC over much better turn-based strategy games, such as Heroes of Might & Magic. With its mobile pedigree and relatively simplistic gameplay I’d take the near 20 year old HoMM III over this, especially as those games are so cheap now.

I’m a little perplexed as to the positive reception for this game. Perhaps it’s the free to play aspect that’s pulling people in, or maybe the PVP, but you need to play the adventure mode for a while before unlocking it. Said mode is just a series of fairly boring battles following an incredibly linear path, with zero story.

There are also loot boxes and pay to win mechanics. Perhaps that’s why they made the adventure mode so boring, so you’d be tempted to bypass the grind to unlock units more quickly.
