Like Hunt Down The Freeman the focus of this mod seems to be on telling a unique, canonical story set in the Half-life universe, and also like HDTF, it's a pile of ♥♥♥♥. You can view a section of each chapter in my impressions video, not because I wanted to play the whole thing you understand, but because I got stuck on each one.

This is the HDTF School of game design with no clear goal for the player, frustrating enemy encounters, bland environments and poor level design. The combat is made worse by all the particle effects and blinding lights, and the horrible red filter that overlays the screen when you're injured is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ obnoxious. Then there's the fact that whenever you go near a wall your gun points to the side, which is really useful in the middle of a gun battle; comes with the added bonus of nullifying your torch.

It’s all big mess, a hodgepodge of assets thrown into a big Source pot with no care for how it all turns out or for where the ingredients were ‘sourced’ from. Titanfall cough cough. It’s not quite as insulting as HDTF because at least it’s free and some of the enemy placements seem to be thought out, even if they aren’t enjoyable to actually play.

It just seems like another vanity project from a modder more interested in Half-life’s lore than in that franchises revolutionary gameplay. This once venerable series is being violated again and I don’t think Valve care, which is a little sad in this instance, rather than the ♥♥♥♥ you that was HDTF.

I will give the developer minor credit for letting me experience each level without having to complete the previous one, although that might tell you all you need to know about the quality of said levels.

If you expect me to masturbate whilst playing your terrible video game then you need to let me rebind the keys. Not all of us use WASD and fondle with our right hands. It also makes the game nigh on unplayable, but perhaps gameplay isn’t the selling point.

I’ll just add that the gameplay is pretty awful -poor controls and performance aside- and the game is self-aware of this fact, which doesn’t excuse it and also doesn’t make it a satire. What we have here is some immature titillation that is more fun to laugh at, than with.

It is better than all the hentai games currently on Steam, so Russia takes the prize this year Japan. ‘Some’ tiny amount of effort and ‘imagination’ appears to have gone into making this too. I’m just not sure why.

Just like in real life I shot too early and made a horrible mess. Speaking of horrible messes, this is a game your mum could speedrun.

This is just another unity horror game that relies heavily on store bought assets, darkness, a limited torch and jump scares. The only difference here is that Oakwood has dinosaurs instead of scary ghost ladies and demons. You can view some gameplay in my first impressions video.

I’m bemused by the praise, but the few comparisons to Alien Isolation are laughable. The Alien acted and behaved like an intelligent animal that was hunting. It had sophisticated, dynamic AI. The dinosaurs in this game appear to be scripted and trigger once you reach a certain location, after which you have to avoid them by running the right way. If you try to run from the Alien you will die; you have to use stealth, intelligence and diversions to deal with it. Oakwood requires trial and error rather than skill or quick thinking, and stealth (hiding) only appeared as an option once. The best option is to run and hope you go the right way. That’s never fun and the style of gameplay kills the small amount of tension.

This was definitely the case with the Raptors but perhaps it changes with the T. Rex. I don’t know, because I quit once I’d reached the sewers; a series of long, linear corridors that all look the same and a dinosaur that spits acid at you. That wasn’t fun, it wasn’t scary and any atmosphere built before the dinosaurs turned up had completely gone. The environments also lack cohesion, with the camp hut being overly large and poorly designed, and the items placed with in lacking logic. It reminded me of a spooky asylum more than a holiday camp.

The game also performed terribly up until the first appearance by the T. Rex, which is a moment ripped straight from Jurassic Park. I’ll give the developers some credit for the intro, and for having a half decent options menu and rebind-able keys, but I still wouldn’t bother with this. Dinosaurs don’t make for good horror antagonists, especially not ones this comical.

This is a well-made demo rather than a finished game, and it takes very little time to finish. What’s on display is promising and I’d be interested in seeing this turned into something more substantial.

Tight platforming controls, although the 3d perspective makes some jumps difficult. I also noticed lots of screen tearing despite v-sync being switched on.

Adorable little robot.

Pinstripe is a puzzle platformer in which you play as ex minister, father Ted (HA HA). A tragic accident has befallen Ted and his young daughter, Bo, and he must traverse hell itself in order to rescue her.

Tonally and in set-up the story is a lot like Limbo's, only far less pretentious, preferring a more straightforward and less metaphorical approach to plot.

Visually the game is gorgeous, with its digitally painted backgrounds and characters inspired by Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and the film Coraline. The look and feel is that of a dark fairy-tale and there is a stark beauty to each scene. The voice acting is pretty great across the board and the beautiful soundtrack really adds to the bleak atmosphere.

More focus has obviously gone into the art design and story elements than the gameplay, but it's still enjoyable enough to play even if it doesn't provide much of a challenge. I found the shooting mechanics suffered when using a controller and there was some noticeable slowdown too. The puzzles in the game are rather simple but are also varied enough that they don't become boring.

The price may put some people off due to the short length of the game, but perhaps Thomas Brush felt he'd worked hard enough to warrant charging £10.99, and one can hardly blame him. The effort clearly shows. If you’re looking for an atmospheric adventure with a sorrowful story and some casual gameplay, you can't really go wrong with Pinstripe. It's one of those games that will stick in the memory and I thoroughly recommend it.

If you like hardbass, games that look like asset flips, scantily clad ‘women’ spouting one liners and terrible Left 4 Dead clones, then this is the game for you! You might struggle to play it online though, as the game doesn’t have any working servers.

Some credit to the developers for having competent shooting mechanics and a playable frame rate. You’d be amazed at how often this isn’t the case with these kinds of Steam games. Or not.

Ironically this game has already been condemned to fade into obscurity alongside the hundreds of other asset flipped horror games that find their way onto Steam. I’m only assuming this is an asset flip because the maps are mostly empty and poorly designed, and there are rooms and buildings that serve no purpose. There is also a lack of cohesion which you can check out in my first impressions video.

I will give the game some credit for its attempts at storytelling, and for doing something other than jump scares and page collection. Unfortunately what we get instead is a hodgepodge of genres and themes, all poorly implemented. The story is fairly intriguing and the Spanish voice acting is better than I’d expect from a F2P horror game, but it’s not worth enduring the insipid gameplay to hear it.

EDIT
The dev has apparently fixed some of the issues I found/had whilst I was playing, which is good to hear. This isn't the attitude I've come to expect from unknown steam devs when their games are criticised. I find it refreshing.

I can only assume that the selling point here is the gallery and the fact that the title is Hentai Tentacle Bicycle Race. The game doesn’t live up to its title, as is the case with the majority of these hentai ‘games’ (I imagine). It’s about as sexy as my wrinkled bollock bag. You can also view these gallery images for free using google image search, because they clearly aren’t the developer’s intellectual property. A minute or so of searching and I found a handful of the images. The game itself is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage.
