Character Pass 2 - Pack 1 has some... very mixed opinions from me.

On one hand - I do believe their character picks are *already* leagues better than Character Pass 1's. Onigashima Luffy, Hybrid Kaido and Yamato in one pack feels like a gigantic leap from... Urouge, X Drake and Killer as a whole DLC.

However, I do believe they could've done a bit better.

Onigashima Luffy's base is... laughable. It's Timeskip Luffy if he had his Gear 4s replaced with two special moves - that being Red Roc and Roc Gattling. Oh. Also Gear 5 I guess. Gear 5 being an Air unit was kind of expected - but it feels like a very cheap excuse to give him half of the moveset he's supposed to have - as he's only capable of doing air combos. While still viable, he's a far cry from regular Timeskip Luffy. If they had simply incorporated Gear 4 into his combos - such as making Luffy shift into Snakeman when using Strong Attack strings on the ground - and shifting into Boundman when using Strong Attack strings in the air - I believe Onigashima Luffy would be well worth the price - even if they just copy-pasted strings from TS Luffy's transformations. The spectacle alone of having a full-power Luffy casually going in and out of Gear 4 would've easily made up for it. Gear 5 is... fine. Servicable. If anything - this Luffy boasts the strongest special attacks in the game - doing the highest damage in a single special attack... Although, personally, I still think he heavily falls behind the best characters.

Hybrid Kaido I haven't touched much - and even if he is inferior to Base Kaido - he is still very much so worth using for the spectacle alone. Switching into his full Dragon form for his mid-air combos, Hybrid Kaido definitely boasts one of the most unique combo sets in the game so far. I don't believe he is a bad character - far from it, in fact. For a Speed character, he is quite... sluggish, but that's to be expected from a Giant character. Over all pretty solid.

Yamato has to easily be the best character in the pack - by a long mile. Even if she lacks special attack variety - her combo strings and transformation easily makes up for it. She's fast - hits like a truck - and basically every single one of her moves can be chained together. Not to add that she has the ability to freeze opponents solid - a feature previously only usable by Aokiji and Brook if I recall correctly - which allows her to leave guarded/shielded opponents vulnerable for much longer. I do genuinely think she is as strong - if not stronger than Base Kaido and Whitebeard - which, if you know anything about OPPW4 - should speak miles for how powerful she is.

While I do believe Onigashima Luffy is a let down - especially since he was *the* character used to announce Season Pass 2 - Hybrid Kaido and Yamato gives me hope for the upcoming 6 characters. For now, I do think the Season Pass 2 is worth your money - especially with the promise the upcoming characters hold. You also get a unique costume for Law - being his Onigashima outfit. Not a huge selling point - but I do think it's his best costume by far.

I'll likely update this review for when Uta and the other 2 characters come out. I have high hopes that they do Uta justice.
Also - please give her her letterman jacket. Give her the drip. I beg.
Thank you.

they couldnt have done a better job at making a spiritual successor for jet set radio

easily my GOTY for 2023

my only issue so far is the lack of looping music, hopefully they'll add that feature in sometime, im one of those people that love listening to the same song for like 3 hours so it kinda sucks having to take out my phone and play the song again mid combo

otherwise i 100% recommend it

story is a bit short, but i think with a game like this, the story isnt supposed to be the full focus anyway

also

soulful game

Early Access Review
Let me put this out of the way;
I love Touhou - Luna Nights. A. Lot.

While it is still early access, it's very, VERY promising.
The game itself is beautiful. The sprites are very well drawn and are pleasing to look at. I don't recall any character, enemy, object or effect in the game that wasn't nice to look at. The aesthetic of the menus and the HUD is also very, very neat and I simply love it. It's not what I'd call very "Touhou"-ey but that doesn't mean it's bad.

Now, the game itself. First thing you'll notice is that the controls are simply amazing. The game is very responsive and feels satisfying to control. The first few minutes may feel a little... off, as you start off without the main mechanic of the game. But it still feels pretty great to play. You have a jump, glide, the ability to throw 3 knives at a time both forward and downwards midair. Everytime you throw knives, you use up MP. But without any real Skills, you won't really notice any significant loss in your MP whatsoever. You also start with "Snail Time"; If you hold down the Knife/Attack button, a tiny circle charges up above your head. Once it's fully charged, it allows you to slow down time for 3 seconds; making dodging and timed platforming a lot more easier.

Then... you're introduced to the main mechanic of the game; stopping time.
The way how stopping time works is pretty simple; You stop time, you start losing TIME. If you move around when the time is stopped, you lose TIME. You throw knives in the same sceneario, you lose TIME. It balances out how overpowered your ability is, and even with these restrictions, abusing the hell out of it feels amazing. The game lets you stop then at ANY given moment, no matter what situation you're in ( only exceptions being cutscenes and while you're recovering from a hit because you were simply clumsy like a doofus). Setting up a barrage of knives infront of enemies and resuming time just to see them get obliterated feels satisfying. Everytime. Seriously.
To add to the already heaping number of fun mechanics, there's a significant amount of water in this game. Why? Well, here's the simple answer; Stopping time also stops the flow of the water, basically solidifying it, allowing you to use it as a platform when needed.

Now, for the skills. The game so far only has two skills; A "stun" knife which would stun your opponents ( if they didn't get obliterated from the knife itself with it's overwhelming 10 damage ) and homing knives, which wraps a light blue circle around you that shoots out a small barrage of knives that are aimed at the nearest enemy. They use up a different amount of MP ( 10 and 30 respectively ), which means if you abuse your thunder/homing knife shenanigans too much, you won't be able to protect yourself entirely - as your normal attacks rely on MP as well. It's not really a skill, but it's also a collectible item; you get the Sliding Knife pretty early on, which is a passive item. It lets Sakuya slide around and underneath small spaces with no problem. It aids with grazing significantly and is pretty fun to use.

Honestly, I could go and gabble on for hours and hours on how great the game is. Regardless of it being a 30 minute demo ( as of writing this ), it's a very, very solid good impression and I'm very excited to see where this game goes. I feel like every penny of my 7,99 euros was worth it, regardless of the demo's short length.

Pros
-Very responsive controls
-Fun mechanics all around!
-The art style and aesthetic is very very pleasing.
-T I M E S T O P P I N G H Y P E
-It's Touhou!

Pro/Cons
-Very short demo, but it's understandable as it's a very Early Access game.

Cons
-Honestly... I don't like giving things too much credit, but I can't think of any cons. It's not perfect by any means; it does have it's flaws, but I can't name any large problems that has hindered my game experience.

Overall, I'd say you should give Touhou Luna Nights a chance. I can guarantee you that you won't be disappointed.
I look forward to what this game will become in due time.

LiEat is not a game for people who are looking for a challanging RPG game -- it is by no means difficult or try to focus in that department...

But only because it doesn't have to.

All three LiEat games are mostly exploration and story focused, being rather heavy on dialouge and story. All three games are proper sequels to the previous(well, there WERE a few towns skipped but that's because nothing really important happened there).

The story is of a man who's present is riddled to the brim with lies and a dragon girl born from his wishes, who can eat lies. The games sum the story up, as if you were watching an anime: it keeps it short, semi-well detailed yet entertaining. Personally, I enjoyed the twists the stories had each time, with new, unfamiliar faces with each of their own backgrounds and reasons for their actions.

The sprite work is pretty fancy and smooth to the eyes, yet sometimes very very distracting(for example the alley way in 1, that took some time to find!), but over all pretty pleasurable to look at. Character design focuses very heavily on making every character look as adorable as they could possibly make them.

...Thing is, that's where LiEat begins to fall short.

The gameplay is rather dull, as there's not much thinking to be done during combat. The moves are very straight forward and often you just need to spam them to win basically any battle. Exploration is often limited or pointless, and it's very easy to get confused. There aren't many places to explore and there aren't anything worthwile to find.

Pros:
+Endearing spritework, pleasurable to look at
+Story is indeed, pretty good and the world keeps it as consistent as it could.
+Efi. That's all.
+The price is rather low for such an experience.

Mixed:
+/- It doesn't focus on music too well. Sure, it gets the job fairly done, but it is, still, just midis.
+/- Characters often don't return, some for good, some for bad.

Cons:
-Combat isn't exciting, rather dull and repetitive.
-Exploration is stuck to a maximum of 9 maps, very few things to find.
-The games aren't really that difficult, as they serve little to no challenge.
-All three games combined are really really short, summing up to 4 hours.

Over all, I do recommend LiEat. Why? It aims to be a story telling RPG game, and it does that job well, and I absolutely adore that. The world is pretty well built together, makes you wonder on and on about what could, what would and what is in that universe. Characters are memorable and adorable and the spritework does it's best to reflect that.

If you did like LiEat(especially part 3), I'd reccomend you check out DSP(Deep Sea Prisoner)'s works. They being The Gray Garden, Mogeko Castle and Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea. These are all story driven games with fun characters where the story does end up getting really eerie near the end. Funnily enough, vgperson is the very same person that translated their works and LiEat! While I do recommend these, be vary DSP's works have an intense amount of gore, controversial subjects and other triggering events to some.

While I do recommend these, I still do recommend you to check out LiEat first if you want something way less eerie, cute and memorable.
