So no one's gonna say the story is a bad rip-off of Control? Just me??

Even if you look past all the obviously borrowed components of the game (the title is even stolen from a 2014 metal band), this is still a decently absorbing survival crafter to play with friends, but there's just not a lot of content and not a lot of replayability. In fact, I suspect the ONLY reason the wipes are 6 weeks long is because the devs recognize just how little content they have.

Sure, there's tons of ways to craft and beat your neighbors, but once you hit max level, the game is essentially over. If you want, you can farm bosses and silos for better mods, but for what? So you can beat your neighbors quicker with no game-changing rewards? So you can run through the same soulless boss fights on Hard/Pro? Couple that with forgettable lore, and you're left with just about nothing to make you want to sink more hours into the game.

I would much rather pay money to play the games that this rips off than keep getting my hopes up for free-to-play clones like this.

YES! YES! FASTER! STRONGER! SEXIER! MULLETIER! HOTLINE MIAMI x DOOM! NONSTOP SYNTHWASHED ROBOT VIOLENCE! YES! EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS YES!!!

A frustratingly beautiful game that punishes you for loving it, The Banner Saga is a fantastic balance of turn-based strategy and resource management, and one of the few games I've played that can truly carry the "choices-matter" tag. The bleak, nigh-apocalyptic setting is perfectly matched by the brutal gameplay, with a vastly branching storyline that carries over into 2 other amazing sequels.

True, it can move a little slow at times, but the pace is constantly reinforced by the storyline, and once you realize that this game wants you to let your guard down, you'll cherish those slow moments that always preclude disaster.

There are few bad things I can say about this game, except that it's a commitment.

The only rougelite that has 8x10⁶⁷+ ways to play. Endlessly fun.

This game would've taken 30 hours to 100% if it wasn't for No One Left Behind, the most poorly worded achievement on Steam.

There are some things to appreciate about This Is The Police.

• Police/base management is really fun
  
• Base gameplay is pretty addictive
  
• Certain events—scripted and random—really raise the stakes
  
• Great noir storyline...for the first half
  
• Cool low-poly vector graphics

BUT... this game falls flat by the second half.

• WHY INCLUDE A 10-SEC CUTSCENE OF ME TURNING ON MY CAR, EVERY IN-GAME DAY
  
• Really not as much control over the police calls as you should have
  
• The multiple-choice calls are almost always silly
  
• You'll often have to guess the correct answer, unless you want to follow a guide
  
• Kind of bad writing/acting overall
  
• The big storyline event in the second half feels unfinished
  
• The game is organized rather chaotically, making it difficult to track your progress
  
• The final mission and the ending are just...bad

This Is The Police transforms from a thoughtful police management game into a sprawling mess of a game that doesn't know what it wants to be by the end. Plus, the developer has already moved on to other games, without even fixing that horribly confusing language in the achievement, so clearly they don't have the desire or the staff to go back and make simple quality-of-life updates.

Get it if you're running a potato and don't have the setup to play better games. Otherwise...try Contraband Police.

It's absolutely a classic for its time, but that time has long since passed. The impact of this game is clear in series like Metal Gear and Silent Hill, but I can't say that this will have a similar impact for any player that purchases today. I love that the story is told with little to no dialogue, and some of the graphics scratch that retro itch, but otherwise there's not a lot in this game that's new or interesting to modern players. Buy if you want to experience a piece of history, or play the games that this inspired to have even more fun.

It's One Night as a Werewolf in space, what's not to like? Great memes and better gameplay, but bring your own friends because you won't find new ones here. Also, no in-game voice chat, +sus.
