I have played very few visual novel games in my life, I have only played Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate which they both are their own master piece. From what I have observed throughout my entire playthrough of this visual novel I can tell you that this game is way past Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate. I have spent countless hours observing every single detail in the game and every single detail of the characters. I will tell you about what this game have taught me if you have never realized if you already played this. This game might seem happy and positive but there is more to it if you open your eyes and put together every single evidence that has been given to you. What I find most interesting is that every single characters in Nekopara represent a mental illness which I will talk more about as I go on. First of all lets talk about Chocola, When you look at her for the first time she seems like an energetic happy outgoing "happy-go-lucky" cat. But as you continue to progress into the story you start to notice that she loses her focus on things very easily, making her unable to focus on one thing and assume that she has "ADHD". This might be the reason why her first owner left her on the street and abandoned her because he thought she was useless. Vanilla is the polar opposite of Chocola which is ironic because Chocolate and Vanilla flavors are polar opposite as well. At first you can notice that Vanilla has a very shy, calm and emotionless personality. Once you look deeper you start to notice that she constantly has no energy and always sleeps, Which is a common symptoms for "Depression". From what we are given Vanilla and Chocola were both abandoned by the same person. We can also assume that Vanilla was the one to be most abused by her former owner. It is assumed that Chocola did not suffer too much because their old owner grew tired of her since she was unable to focus. Next on we have Shigure Minazuki, One of the only human characters in this game. At first she seems like a motherly type of person and she seems to be in love with her own brother which is also the protagonist of our game Kashou Minazuki. Once you start to notice that she seems to be calm in every situation even when she is mad we start to see signs of "Borderline Personality Disorder". One of the signs is how she is constantly jealous of the other catgirls in the household since her brother seem to pay more attention and care for the catgirls in the house which also makes her feel worthless and insecure in front of her brother. Next catgirl on the line is Azuki. She seems like the generic "Tsundere" type at first. But once you look into her deeper you start to notice that she is not a Tsundere, and she has signs of "Anger Issues" Which can be supported by her getting into fights constantly with others and being rude, not being able to express her emotions. From all the evidence we can gather we can assume that she has been abused by her former owner and now she has developed intense anger issues towards the world itself for what she have gone through. Up next is Maple. We can see that Maple is a mature, refined and prideful catgirl. She doesnt mind giving out her opinions such as her dislike for the term "catgirl" since she thinks that she needs to be seen as something bigger than catgirl. We can assume that Maple has "God Complex". Her prideful personality and needing to feel above anyone else, that sometimes is the reason of her downfall. The next catgirl we analyze is my personal favorite, Cinnamon. She is a very polite, cheerful and shy. As we continue to see more of her throughout the story we can notice that she starts to go through these random "Episodes" of her masochistic and delusional tendencies. This is a sign of her having "Schzoid Personality Disorder" Where everything is centered around her and her delusions. She has a lack of interest in things unless it is about her being degraded by anyway. We can assume that Cinnamon was the one to suffer the most from her former owner. It seems like that her former owner abused and tortured her to the point of breaking and now she enjoys the very thing that her former owner has done. Lastly we have Coconut. She is a very emotional catgirl and her desire to be considered to be cute by others and her mature acts and on top of that her clumsy, childish personality can show you that she is suffering from "Autism Spectrum Disorder" While we do not know where Coconut is on the spectrum, we can assume that she is on somewhere high up on the charts. We do not know the reason why she was abandoned by her former owner but we can safely assume that it might be because of her disorder. In conclusion, Nekopara is a very good detailed and an interesting visual novel. I recommend this game to everyone who loves heavy storyline, good character developement and emotional scenes.
