The sequel of one of the best Castlevania games.

Overall      ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Music        ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★★★☆ - 9/10
Gameplay ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Story         ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10

Difficulty ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ (add 4 stars for some optional Kleidos challenges)

While this game is more Metroidvania like with an open-world platforming, its predecessor follows a more Dark Souls kind of gameplay. The general difficulty is less difficult than the first part, only the optional Kleidos challenges have some few very mean special tasks that need a big portion of luck beside very good reflexes. For completionists a very hard task and can be get really annoying.

The strong points:
* a good fighting tutorial (this was missing in the first part)
* impressive buildings, city/castle settings and awesome statues
* normal playthrough is more for casual gamers
* better overall graphics
* there is a shop with one of the best sidekick characters ever

The weak points:
* a lot of important story things are just told in a rough cutscene. It feels like you missed a Lords of Shadows 1.5
* a lot of old characters are just mixed into the story just for the sake to let them re-appear
* some plot holes: one example Zobek reappears after he got burned by Satan himself
* some sensless story parts: one example the death of Simon Belmont felt so useless
* unhelpful world map. You will get lost easily when you search for specific areas to get some secrets
* switching from item use mode to ranged attack mode is done very inconvenient
* some Kleidos challenges are too luck based (especially on Prince of Darkness mode)
* if you reset a failed Kleidos challenges, only the life bar is resetted. Used items and powers not. So you end up farming them for a new retry, or you are forced to ALT+F4 out of the game and reload it, what resets everything. Not good game design

Though I still liked this game, the sequel is not as good as the first part. This might be a personal taste. But I do like the charm of a timeless fantasy setting of the predecessor way more than this science-fantasy mix. The story itself is still epic, no question about it, but it doesn't feel as good and touching than the first part.

One of the best Castlevania games ever.

Overall      ★★★★★★★★☆☆ - 8/10
Music        ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★★☆☆ - 8/10
Gameplay ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Story         ★★★★★★★★☆☆ - 8/10

Difficulty ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (on Paladin difficulty add 2 stars)

This game is quite old when I write this review. Neithertheless the graphics are still awesome. Must have been state of the art back those days. I rated the graphics fair based on this fact.

The strong points:
* a timeless and detailed mystic setting
* very creative small plots and a wide variety of sceneries
* a good mix between logic puzzles and battles
* good fighting system
* cool bossfights
* atmospheric soundtrack
* for a 9 year old game still good graphics

The weak points:
* game gives you sometimes no clues for puzzles
* no proper fight tutorial
* aerial control (especially with the wings) could be better
* no auto-refill of health and mana after a level ends (you need to farm it before boss fights)
* Paladin difficulty is very challenging, for completionists a hard nut to crack

Konami did a very good job on this one. Usually I prefer the old retro style Castlevanias from the SNES times more, but this one is really awesome, I must admit. See forward to the sequel, which leads on the story.

A point and click adventure with a cool concept, but a lost cause.

Overall      ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Music        ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Gameplay ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Story         ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ - 4/10

Difficulty ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (except just some few puzzles)

The good things:
* nice drawings
* uncapped FPS
* changing the characters from time to time made the game more refreshing
* good sense of humour (in the first half of the game)
* interesting story unfolding (in the first half of the game)

The bad things:
* too less point'n click type of puzzles
* a lot of logic puzzles which lack some extra hints for the player to figure out
* Kitteh became quite boring soon
* logic flaws: in some dialogs your character already knows/react to things he cannot when you visit objects/places in the not intended order (eg branch and stone plate at Point Nemo)
* Point Nemo is just weird and breaks the whole immersion at some point
* unfinished localisation
* not comprehensible change of hearts by some characters

The second half of the game went down the road. I am still trying to figure out why. The only thing I come up with is that the devs lost their key concept, and tried to create desperately an epic ending, but had not the time or will to conclude it properly. The whole end could have been done way better - I am totally dissapointed by what I got served. It smelled like the rotten fish in Fishmouth.

Two additional points made me furious and I want to point this out more precisely:

1. If devs ever going to promise Kickstarter backers a full localisation, they should do it. This refers to the rap-battle scene and the butcher code text. I know they are hard to translate to make them work in a translation, but it is not that it cannot be done. They don't have to be translated word-by-word, and they might work out for the players who cannot speak English well. Just saying, it was not necessary to leave those things completely untranslated (for the Butchers code text there wasn't even any ingame workaround). But the devs did not even tried. And this is an utter fail, if you ask me. They let their Kickstarter backers down who needed this localisation and backed for exactly this stretch goal. A no-go.

2. For Kitteh at the end, devs desperately tried to shed some cheap tears. Her change of heart and sacrifice was such an absud situation that I had to double-facepalm instantly. Whatever they tried, it did not worked out, furthermore it ruined everything for me. I mean, even if Kitteh really had a moment of serious self-reflecion about herself, there was not even the slightest clue or moment that justified that before. She was going from the selfish human-hating carnivore, nearly directly to the have-to-sacrifice myself for the good-of-feline-and-human type of cat. I know that cats can be erratic. But there is again no situation that reflects this before.

I am really glad that I was not a backer, or else I would be even more mad about the whole game.
Still I will try to avoid Stuck in Attic in the future. They proven me not be worthy to support their work forthermore.

---

EDIT for the devs answer:

I am far beyond the point of being able to refund, sorry. For a refund, the main issues came way too late in the game. First half of the game was ok.

I see that translating the rap-battle AND the butcher's code book (don't forget this one as well) is not an easy task to do. You need good translators for that to do it, I agree.

But you also took about 5000 Dollars for the stretch goal to make this happen and didn't fulfilled your pledge of the stretch goal in the end. This is no misinformation, but a clear fact and can be proven. If the 5000 Dollars was not enough to pay the bills to do so, you miscalculated your stretch goal from the very beginning. Don't blame anyone but yourself on this behalf. But leaving both game parts as it is, was letting your backers down. Regardless of complaints that reached you. Most people can speak or read English (like me), or others just skipped or used guides to pass the two game parts. But there were of course people who were dissapointed. And it doesn't free you from your pledges if they are not complaining officially, if you ask me.

So, accept my critic as it is, it stays valid from a fair and square point. If you patched in the missing parts in the future, let me know, then I am willing to rework my review.

Have a good time.

EDIT 2 for the devs answer:

Wow, I really must have hit a nerve.

Yes, I am not a backer. I never was and I never will for your studio. I am just a random customer from around the world who happened to find out that you didn't fulfilled all your Kickstarter pledges completely and pointed this out. This is my personal right to do so, so don't tell me to stop. I will not.

I couldn't care less if your backers still loved your game, or were satisfied with the result. From a straight contract point of view, and how Kickstarter works in general, you did a promise and you didn't fulfilled it to 100%. Easy as it sounds. Denying it is lying.

It is best to stop this conversation at this point as it leads nowhere in particular. We have both our fixed opinion on this topic.

Thanks for sharing your thoughs, I aprreciated it.

Batman: Arkham VR is for everyone who wants to feel one day like Bruce Wayne.

Overall      ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Music        ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★★★★ - 10/10
Gameplay ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Story         ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10

Difficulty ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (there is no way you can die)

This game is more a narrative game with a short story and some criminalistic puzzles. The mere story can be played through in about 100 minutes. Then you can replay it with some extra puzzles and collectibles hidden from the Riddler.

The strong points:
* very good graphics
* with love constructed environments
* nice puzzles
* immersive Batman feeling

The weak points:
* throwing Batterangs can be annoying
* no fights and no real action
* very short
* you cannot drive/fly the Bat vehicles

I got this in a good sale, so I don't complain about the length of the game. Consider it being just a short movie than rather a full fledged game, then you won't be dissapointed. Though I would have liked more action, or driving/flying my Bat vehicles rather then being "warped" to the (crime) scenes, I still enjoyed the game a lot.

A nifty game with good graphics and full fledged VR features, give it a go if you want to kill some time.

A game that wants to be a simulation, but isn't.

Overall      ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Music        ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Gameplay ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Story         ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ - 3/10

Difficulty ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ (due to some bad game design)

The base concept of this game is awesome. But the longer I played the game, the more all the little mistakes and flaws kicked in and were driving me crazy. At this point I utterly don't like this game anymore.

Updated my review from pre-early-access v1.06 to release v1.4.1.1. And yes I know the devs told that they will further develop it even if it officially was released. And a lot of my former complaints were fixed. But it doesn't change the fact that the overall impression is still not good enough and will stay bad nless they do a major rework of some mechanisms.

The good things:
* building the ships is fun and detailed
* sea fights look nice
* a lot of interesting historical facts
* naval academy missions were fun
* graphics are ok
* small scaled battles with a maximum of 2 divisions is ok

The bad things:
* the campaign is awful and quite boring (it is merely a wait and pop-up-simulator than anything else). Would have been much better if you don't have to lead the war but one single fleet and fulfill missions for which you get funded
* friendly AI mode is still so horrible in many aspects. The aimlessly circling was fixed and the ramming issue was workaround by just disabling collision damage at all
* as soon as you have more than one division, the game runs into a big cat hording issue. It is way better than it were in early access, but needs still mire improvement
* game changes the flagship by its own if it gets a heavy blow destroying the whole formation of all divisions connected to this ship division. There is no warning you lost control over your leading ship. You just notice it when suddenly the second ship in line is reacting to your orders. There is no button to reassign the flagship unless or to disable this behaviour at all. The former workaround to reattach the former flagship to the division does not work anymore because the devs devided to auto-change flagship also per time, not per event, so your changes gets voided a couple of seconds later again. This also causes an all-new problem:
* the game sometimes decides too choose the most (engine and rudder) damaged ship with over 60% hull damage to be the flagship although other ships are in a way better shape. Sicne you cannot force the game to take a certain flagship, this is a true no-go mechanism now
* enemy AI in campaigns are too often just fleeing like headless chickens. Even if they have the bigger force they do so and ignoring their mission objective and winning just by time because you cannot fulfill yours
* fast motion limitation due to range is annoying. Auto-resetting the speed is ok if something happens, but not the limitation. Why is there no override mechanism? Would safe a lot of time in some situations
* Sinking ships do still a full stop and sink unnatural. Also, they vanish sometimes too soon
* destruction model should be overworked. Would look more awesome if damage is more detailed or ships also may break apart
* salvo gunfire of big guns does not affect ship movement, nor is the blast of the muzzle flash affecting the water (the devs give away some awesome looking eye-candy effects)
* you cannot directly see on which mounting points which gun size can be mounted. The same goes for the barbettes. Would be nice if there is a size number in the icons for mounting points and guns to show which combinations can be fitted
* hitboxes of faraway ships are too tiny. You accidentally reassign division course instead of attacking the target by rightclicking
* even with 46% to-hit chance my guns still miss 10-15 salvos? O.o
* damaged area sometimes doesn’t fit to the area which was hit. My rear cannon was killed by a straight 2 km ranged front attack without my two tall towers and the funnel in between even get scratched. Nice banana shot indeed
* ships in firing line to the targeted ship will be hit with 100% accuracy. I wish I could tell my cannoneers to just target a "ghost ship" behind my targets to always get sure hits
* campaign: no save function, nor can I set up my own ship divisions for the sea control missions
* campaign: a time limit in battles. Really? There is no logical reason for this. Will the war end during the seafight?
* any missions: on larger fleet battle, auto-building the ships takes ages during loading screen. Why does the game not do it it in the background when I build my ship(s)? Why is the game rebuilding everything from scratch again if I restart the battle and don't just reuse the old setups? Eveny my 7800x3D needs sometimes a couple of minutes to perform these calculation. This is just way out of line if you ask me
* my ships sometimes change their targets without me having them assigned to do so. This is annoying because they loose their accuracy due to that
* ships speed decrease setting them to full stop was changed in a bad way, it now feels totally unrealistic
* engine Turbo Electric cost per weight percentage is display wrongly with 20250%
* naval missions: sometimes ships spawn inside other division ships causing a crash at start of a mission
* ship hitboxes are weird: some torpedoes explode about 5 meters away from my stern causing full damage
* build warning message "some guns have a poor section of fire" may appear even if all guns have a proper section. And there is no hint to which gun the message applies. This is annoying
* it was very unpleasant to see that all my naval missions stats were resetted

Things that make me just furious:
* flagship just auto-change: I DECIDE WHEN A SHIP MAY DISENGAGE AND TURN AROUND! There is nothing to deactivate this behavior or to swap flagship within my division manually.
* Enemy torps hit with pinpoint accuracy over 15 km distance. My ship misses even at 500m. WTF? Also, late era CLs are spreading torps like crazy, even if they have "no ammo" left
* fast motion limitation: if I want the game to run at x10 speed, I DECIDE TO DO SO! The current mechanism is making some battles last so long needlessly (example: slug racing a retreating ship with 1 knot more) that I am forced to play mobile games while doing so to not die of any boredom
* the long pre-calculation times of this game is totally annoying, the devs also even utilize all the CPU power to perform them. Waiting several minutes to start a mission is a NO GO AND UNNECESSARY if they just would use prebuild setups for their fixed missions

Summary:
I am well aware that this game is still under developement, but everything is still feeling like a mere beta version, and this for 4 bucks full price? You can expect for this price a much more solide game from developers than it actually is. Also the game wants to be a simulation but it is not accurate in so many historical or physical things.

My advise if you are still interested in this game: wait until a big sale (at least 50%). Anything else is just not justified to spend on this game in the current state.

Divisible is a good example that genre-mixes are working. If you like Metroidvanias and Retro-RPGs, you will love this game.

Overall      ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Music        ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★★☆☆ - 8/10
Gameplay ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Story         ★★★★★★★★☆☆ - 8/10

Difficulty ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (besides from some special bosses and challenging jumping puzzles ok)

You have to get accustomed to the fighting system in the beginning. But as soon as you get the hang of it, it is quite easy and makes fun, because beside the fact that it is turned-based, they managed to make it fast-paced. Prepare for some serious button-smashing with ultra-combos above 500 :)

What I liked about the game:
* 19 recruitable and playable characters
* lovely dialogues and characters
* handdrawn graphics
* metroidvania puzzles worked out very well
* fighting system very interesting
* couch-coop with upt to 4 players
* epic and cool ending
* new game+ available
* you find more Ringsel for character upgrades than you actually need

What I disliked about the game:
* difficulty in metroidvania jump puzzles were leaping from easy to hardocre sometimes
* hitboxes of the mines don't work properly if you scratch them with you dash attack
* total reset to last checkpoint of you fall off or hit an insta-death obstacle
* you have to actually save the game before leaving, the game forgets checkpoints
* easter egg: catwalk dungeon with boss was nasty (too less savespots, gets more difficult of you got Ajna's last form). Luckily totally optional as you get no reward than the fact you beat it.

This game is far from perfect, but it work out pretty well. I would have loved to get the stretch goal for multiple ending and the hardcore dungeon as well, also the full voice-over. Unfortunetally the game did not get the financial support that it deserved.

Still, this game is enjoyable.

An absorbing narrative game about a girl's life bound to a paranormal entity.

Overall      ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Music        ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★★★★ - 10/10
Gameplay ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ - 4/10
Story         ★★★★★★★★★★ - 10/10

Difficulty ★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (mainly QTE and the game does find ways to continue the story whatever happens)

This game is more an interactive psycho-thriller Hollywood movie with great actors played by Elliot Page and Willem Daffoe. And they did their job very well. The main story is told in little story pieces and events during the lifetime of Jodie Holmes, who is bound to an invisible entity called Aiden. And this is where the story unfolds very well as you find out step by step what is going on and how Jodie and Aiden find their way. There are a lot of sad things in the game, but also action parts as well.

What I really loved about this game:
* the story is really intense and it takes it time (needed 12 hours for the first playthrough)
* character details are one of a kind and visuals are very good
* you can play the game in chronical order or in the original, disordered version (which I liked more)
* can be played coop (one as Jodie and one as Aiden, though Jodie is the one with the most interactions)
* the game does not stop narration whatever happens, like a movie
* you can make different decisions and story follows your actions you take, for the worse or better
* good replayability as you can replay chapters anytime to find new ways and watch other outcomes
* it's great fun spreading havoc with Aiden when it gets unleashed
* many tiny chapters which give you an insight on Jodies life and struggles
* different endings

Downsides of the game:
* camera control can sometimes be a little weird
* the story segments and your decisions are consealed, means most things are not dragged over to other story parts, but important ones are
* chapter select can be used to see other outcomes of the current chapter, but will not be permanently saved. For some (minor) endings you have to replay the whole game.
* uses QTE a lot (Quick-Time-Events), which is not directly bad though as it keeps the "movie" rolling

The QTE and consealed chapters are gimmicks to make it possible to tell the story fluently and not to produce too much different timelines. I was absolutely able to live with it.

In the end the game was a total blast to play. If you like stories about ghosts and stuff, the story will catch you. I am a big fan of the Life is Strange series and other narrative games, but Quantic Dreams showed me that not only Dontnod can make awesome narrative games. Though Quantic Dream focus more on a movie presentation. Beyond: Two Souls is a must play if you like the topic and such game types.

This is more like an interactive story-driven novel in retro RPG style.
And yet it is a hidden gem here in Steam.

There are currently 3 main installments in the To The Moon series:
  • Episode 1: To The Moon
  • Episode 2: Finding Paradise
  • Episode X(*): Impostor Factory

Overall      ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Music        ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Graphics   ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Gameplay ★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ - 1/10
Story         ★★★★★★★★★☆ - 9/10

Difficulty  ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (it's just a narrative story in which you cannot die)

Another masterpiece of FreeBird games.
The graphics improved a lot (in the range of pixel art), but the soundtrack was this time not so remarkable than in the first two episodes. Also the story, still gorgeous and well told, is conceptional the weakest of all episodes yet. Don't get me wrong, I totally loved it and cried again my heart out. But in a direct comparison, the former episodes were more to my liking.

Again, although the old school RPG retro pixel art fits quite well for this narrative story driven game, it lacks the power to transport the great story. With proper visuals, or in the form of an Anime, it will be boosted beyond what it is now.
At the point I am writing this review, we are yet to get the Anime for the first episode (work in progress). And I do not see any reason it won't be a big success and so we might get episode 2 and episode X as well. I see forward to it.

Until then, feel free to enjoy all three games so far. These narrative adventures have wonderful stories.

(*) A little spoiler for the episode numbering: Episode "X" is officially intended, as it is still unsure in which base timeline order the story does take place in correlation to future episodes. But it is in fact a sequel. So for the time being it can be considered as an episode "3+".

A very cute and well made game, wrapped in a lot of bitterness and frustration.

Overall      ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Music        ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Gameplay ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ - 3/10
Story         ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10

Difficulty  ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (if you just want to play it through)

The mix of Finding Nemo, Marble Madness and other related physical puzzles is good, and I enjoyed the whole concept from the very first minute. Unfortunetaly, if I would have known what the game comes up with after the first couple of levels, I would have refunded immediately. Now it is too late to do so. Nice one, devs, this is how you squeeze money out of players even with bad game design.

The game has a lot of mean mechanics, and I didn't played all fishes and had enough of it. There is a lot of RNG stuff going on (the cars, the seagulls), the bowls/bottles are acting weird and different under the same conditions but other camera angles (why does this affect the physics is a riddle for its own), and because controls just are badly done (played with a controller, and yet I was dissappointed). Some ostacles have invisible hitboxes, and the game is very unforgiving. Where on earth were all the beta testers which could have prevented the devs to make such huge mistakes? We will never know, most likely, there were none. Only legit explanation.

For a casual gamer, who just wants to play it through, this game is good enough, but for me, a regular gamer who is also an completionist, the whole mechanics and flaws are just a slap in my face. I hate the game, simple said.

A very lovely puzzle adventure like Moss, but with no fighting.

Overall      ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 8/10
Music        ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Graphics   ★★★★★★★★★☆ - 9/10
Gameplay ★★★★★★★★★☆ - 9/10
Story         ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10

Difficulty  ★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (no deaths)

This is a Alice in Wonderland medley good-night-story, with a lot of easy yet interesting puzzles which perfectly fit into VR. The controls are similar to Moss. The 120 Hz upgrade (if you have a capable VR headset for it) does make the animations very smooth.

The game itself I beat in just 3 hours, with all collectibles and achievements. Which is not much, but considering how much fun I had with this lovely game, I totally enjoyed every minute and don't regret anything.

Only downside is the very unspectacular ending, which does fit to a good night story as you want that little child to sleep rather being too excited or upset.

If you search a nice and immersive VR experience for the evening, this is totally the game you are looking for.
