Good single-player campaign. It has elements of a number of sci-fi stories in it, but I can't name them without spoiling the story.

The good:
Well-written campaign
Balanced difficulty
Invasion mode is very intense; hard, but challenging, not frustrating.

The meh:
The cover system used in the game is pretty flawed. It's more to your benefit to stand up and creep around corners rather than get into cover.

The bad:
The ally AI is programmed to get in your line of fire. Of course, it's YOUR fault if they get hit as a result.
The in-game voice system is useless. Turning it off makes responding to in-game conversations easier.
The competitive multiplayer is boring. It offers nothing you haven't seen with a better implementation. The challenges you have to complete (for 100% completionists) are busywork.
