While not without its quirks, Tormented Souls is a rather appropriate modern take on the classic survival horror genre with significant obvious inspiration from classic titles such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark. A fan of any of those classic series would be very likely to enjoy this game as well. Proper tank controls with some modern QoL improvements, or more modern camera-based directional movement for those who don't like tank controls are both available. The worst I can really say about the game besides some of the items the main character picks up compared to ones she doesn't, is that it becomes a little too obvious at times that the game wasn't written in English originally. I'm not bothered by other languages, but there are some instances where characters speak something different than the subtitle says, to the point that sometimes you hear one direction and see the exact opposite on the screen, creating confusion. As long as you know that the direction written on the screen is the proper one, you shouldn't have too much trouble with this. So yeah, that being the worst of it, I'd say it's a solid game and well worth the price of entry!

I'm pissed that this douche of a dev created this game specifically to piss me off. I really liked the concept of it, and the initially presented challenge along with the philosophical commentary. That is, until I realized that the controls are completely screwed in every sense of the word. My first five hours was spent stubbornly rebooting the game because the controls would go haywire after only ten minutes of the game running (I am well above spec for running this trash, it isn't me). After that I spent another stubborn two hours muting the condescending commentary and quotes stolen from people who are far better than he as I attempted to climb the damn thing with the touch controls instead. No dice. This idiot will either slowly move on the hammer like you want him to, or fling himself at light speed all the way to the left simply because he felt like it and there is nothing you can do about it. And don't even get me started on the stupid lanterns. You have to swing the hammer around while jumping upwards in a space that isn't even large enough to swing the hammer around in... what kind of idiotic level design is this? You even mentioned that you KNEW you were botching the whole thing up the entire time and just left it that way. I get that you "made this game to hurt a certain kind of person", but honestly I hope a certain kind of person hurts you for making it. I don't even want the refund, I just want you to go ♥♥♥♥ yourself.

Early Access Review
I would definitely recommend this game to other players! Now when the early access FIRST launched I wouldn't have said the same, but I've seen a lot of improvements all around since then and the game gives me some very strong Quake 3 vibes like it didn't do before and as much as it sucks to say "this game is good because it's like this other old game", it's really a positive note for it. Previously it didn't hold my attention for more than a match or two, but now I find myself wanting to find people to play with pretty regularly and launching the game almost daily at least for a few matches (if not 20)
