Very fun with friends. Accidentally killed a buddy with a ladder and died laughing for 10 minutes straight.

Everhood is an amazing experience with an even greater soundtrack.

The story is very well thought. With most games today having usually predictable stories that don't really try to surprise you at any point, this game is a great breath of fresh air. I especially appreciate the purpose and message that this game tries to tell. For the sake of not spoiling the story, I won't talk any further about it. The game progresses linearly for the first half of the game, before completely opening up for you to explore. The way it is executed here works well thanks to the variety of characters and dialogue they present.

But the encounters are, in my opinion, where this game really shines for me. The idea of combining rhythm-based bullet hell with crazy shader effects immediately remind me of when I used to play mod charts for In The Groove 2 back in high-school. They are extremely fun to play and difficult to master. All the noteworthy fights have no-hit achievements tied to them, which can range from being relatively easy to "broken-controller" difficult. But in my journey to 100%, none of the fights ever felt unfair. The difficulty of the charts scale at an appropriate rate as you progress through the game, with both more obstacles to dodge and more intensity in the tracks that accompany them.

There is also a custom battle editor that is currently in the game as a beta and is actively being worked on. I can't claim to have played any custom charts, but I'm sure that the potential for it is amazing if this game gets the recognition it deserves. That said, I do hope the developers add workshop support at some point for people to share custom charts, as doing it via the discord is not very sustainable if a large number of members come to create them in the future; many charts would just get left in the past or overshadowed by others.

As one of the first to 100% the game following its release, I can easily say this game will take much more than its advertised 5-6 hours if you want to see all the game has to offer. Admittedly, some of the achievements are a bit of a grind, so I wouldn't recommend most to go for 100% unless you feel extremely dedicated.

People are inevitably going to compare this game to Undertale simply because of its art style and overworld gameplay. I won't be the first certainly won't be the last when I say this. THIS IS NOT UNDERTALE. If you come into this game expecting that, you will certainly be disappointed. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't play it.

Ultimately, I had a fantastic time with Everhood. From the moment I saw the demo on AlphaBetaGamer's YouTube channel a year ago, I knew that this game would be one of my favorites. It is well worth its $10 price tag, and honestly I would have been willing to pay double. The story was great and the battles were even better. I really love the battle system and hope that the community can come to make some great stuff with the editor.

Really fun VR experience. If you enjoyed Beatsaber, you'll likely enjoy this one as well.
