All was well until suddenly the game - as in the game engine, it appears - decided to delete Japan and turn it into South Africa, including the names of players playing in the NPB, including foreign players, and on user saves, in a permanent way that's unlikely to be fixed from afar, if ever. This even goes for saved games and quickstarts from previous versions, and all done suddenly with little transparency. I doubt that the country of Japan can sue over the use of its national identity (and in what court, and what jurisdiction would enforce such a self-serving trademark claim, even if the government actually attempted to sue a private company). But the degree of alteration goes beyond mere trademarks and likely even extends to actual creative original and copyrighted derivative work that players may have made.

Since the devs for whatever reason decided to "pass the punishment onto the players" for whatever reason, a measure both punitive and solves nothing, I don't know why anyone would play this game and run the risk of something like this happening again. If the devs go out of their way to throw players under the bus, I'm not inclined to get onto that bus in the first place, you know? If you can't even stop the devs from surreptitiously altering in a categorical fashion something that may be your own creation entirely... then this isn't a game anymore, it's just poorly designed malware that we got conned into paying actual cash money for. The difference is that ransomware gangs frequently gives you the decryption key after you pay. It's not enough here that they made their game arbitrarily nonsensical, it also feels like punishing the players simply for playing the game. Well, fool me once....

They made a whole documentary for this so it doesn't really require any additional commentary except 2000 hours into this it's still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun.
