A great concept that is poorly executed.

This game is a roguelite requiring the player to purchase upgrades between runs with the rewards generated by those runs. In this case its coins to unlock better stats on your starting abilities/main tower as well as new constructable buildings.
The problem is the rewards needed for these unlocks require a huge amount of time input while the rewards themselves are somewhat lackluster.
For instance: for a 20 minute game you may generate 2 coins. a level 1 upgrade may cost anywhere between 1-8 coins. The 1 coin upgrades maybe save you about a minute worth of time in the beginning while the midrange upgrades of about 2-3 coins net you a new turret or conveyor belt option.
Of these new turrets they all are a waste of time. You only need the starting ballista turret as it is the best resource to damage option.
Basically the rewards are a waste of time meaning you will have to rely on chance via the randomly generated map and some skill to take down the enemy stronghold.

In order to beat the level and gain +10 coins for your worthless upgrades you need to find 2 crystals somewhere in the level that will supposedly remove the enemy fortress? I didn't get far enough to see.
While seemingly a simple task it is made very complicated as you have to reveal parts of the world by placing light sources with resources dropped from slain enemies. You are unable to build or interact with items that are covered in a fog. The map is fairly large and the light sources are very small. Its as much fun as lighting and throwing matches to find your way around a cathedral.

As most others may do i looked online for help where I came across the developer's reddit post on the release of his game. The top comment was a mirror image of what I had experienced above but the response was verbatim: "Level 1 can be beaten with no upgrades at all."

He intends everyone to just grind everything out without a care for the player's time. Spend your money elsewhere.

My review is influenced by being a long time POE 1 player.
I like that the overall pace was slowed down to more early days poe where things were more open ended and didnt require you to minmax through 20+ alternative options just to have a chance to see most of the endgame content.
However the level clearing is egregiously slow and at times feels clunky. Dodge roll doesnt have any phasing and you can routinely just get boxed into a corner/surrounded by enemies and get stunlocked to death. There is a lack of orbs droppping to actually let you reliably craft anything on the very few items that do drop so youre forced to check the merchant shops every time for new gear.
Some bosses do not telegraph their attacks very well combined with a very noisy/sharp environment it can be hard to make things out at times. Other times there is no telegraph.

Quest progression is hard to follow. EspeciaIly in act 2 as you have to "move" the town to where you want to go? Combined with a confusing map image I still dont really understand whats going on there. Gave up trying to find out how to ascend traitors passage after clearing the entire level and not seeing any exit. and nothing online nor ingame chat being of any help.

I just wasnt really having nearly as much fun as I had with poe 1 early access.

Should probably wait for the bugs to be dealt with.
Incorrect UI displays
Cannot reinforce teammates/yourself (need to quit and restart)
falling through the landscape
your samples and equipment falling through the landscape
Random crashing
Certain mission objectives being completely unbalanced (I.E two dual gunship fabricators spawning next to each other good luck with that)
Explosive weapons can self-hit your character right from the muzzle sending you flying in the wrong direction towards your enemies as a limp ragdoll before getting murdered in melee
Infinite blackscreen after completing a mission
random invisible objects in the environment that will instantly kill you
Many more

Aside from that the game is fun when these issues dont randomly come up. Just dont expect much of an endgame yet as there isnt one. Maybe in the near future there will be more content to keep longterm players.

After another 100 hours of frustration and boredom its safe to say the developers cant make up their mind on how to unscramble the mess they've made of this game. one step forwards two steps back. Im convinced they dont even play their own game.

Never put it past fatshark to completely fail at adding good content. The new Havoc mode is dead on arrival for all you boys in APAC region. Good luck using an empty party finder menu to actually try it out.

Very little content, <5$ game.
Upgrades feel unrewarding.
Gameplay loop lackluster.

Art style + Soundtrack was good though

Its more than a game, its an addiction. Couldn't put down until finishing phase 4 and rounding everything off with a perpetual Plutonium Fuel Rod Nuclear Waste sink.

I dunno man I really wanted to like this one but I cant. For a game that's about experimenting you sure die a lot just from using your own weapons. Kinda just got tired with not being able to experiment properly and gave up.

Be careful this game relies on intense exploration via hugging walls and destroying every single crate to unlock secret passages needed to complete areas. It is a slog.

There is also no text at all. the map shows you the bare minimum, only that things exist in locations that are accessible via underground where the entrance is hidden. Any game that needs a player to look online to follow a walkthough just to progress the main storyline is doing something wrong.

Also just to add some salt in, enemies and ambush encounters respawn after clearing an area. So if you miss a hidden passage to progress then have fun going back through all the trash just to get there again and hug walls to find it.

Thought provoking, relaxing, very tasteful ending. If you haven't played it wont disappoint.
Only thing is that there is too much swearing coming from characters you wouldn't expect. If an option existed to limit or filter this out it would make a great game perfect.

Some may argue swearing should be normalized. For me it is normalized. I have no problem using it on the daily. I just felt it did not fit the theme of such a game.

Really needs more polish on the puzzles and scripted events. Also incredibly frustrating to end up at the end of a chase sequence with no clear path to go and have to restart the entire thing.
