It's really, really good. Play it as blind as possible.

I really like the board version of Talisman, so I snatched up this version on a Humble Bundle. The game is fun, online or offline (but still better with friends). If you like the board game, you'll probably like this version, as they did a good job getting the basic Talisman experience in here. The UI can feel kind of awkward sometimes because of weird button placement and the need to click more times than necessary to do certain tasks, but it's possible to get used to and then it stops detracting from the game at all. The game also has some advantages over the original such as not having to shuffle decks and manage pieces, and letting the computer do the combat math and automatically enforce the rules prevents any player from losing an encounter because they forgot to add an extra strength point from a follower that they lost in their inventory. It's a more convenient way to play, in several regards.

That's why it's such a shame that the game is so buggy. Sometimes the game breaks the rules in frustrating ways (spells targeting untargetable opponents, characters being unable to use abilities when they should be able to, cards that should only be used a limited number of times never disappearing from the board, etc.) So far, every game I've played has had at least one bug that breached the rules. They can be mildly amusing at best but game-breaking at worst. The frequency of these bugs is the problem, as they wouldn't be much of an issue if it was just occasional. But so far it's been every single game.

The bottom line is this: if you like Talisman, this is a pretty good version of it. It gets all the content even if it lacks some of the streamlining it could have. However, the frequent bugs are frustrating and having a bug break your game 90 minutes in is enough to make you not want to play again. If the developers could take care of the bugs, I would definitely recommend getting this game. Unfortunately, I'd now only recommend getting it on sale.
