First impressions are amazing. Only thing it’s missing is a Goku and Piccolo drivers ed mini game.

Probably my all time favorite game when it comes to wishing I was apart of space exploration. This game has a huge learning curve but the satisfaction of building an inter-planetary rocket that can go to another planet, land, then come back is very rewarding. The greatest advantage this game has is it's realism. The physics are very close to life-like and can be improved with mods so it makes understanding rocket science very accessible. Calculating delta-v based on how far your exploration takes you. Changing how many engines are equipped and making sure the fuel your hauling with will sufficiently be enough thrust to move the rocket. Not to mention aerodynamics when the rocket flies through the atmosphere on take-off. This type of stuff.

All around, this game is the epitome of a sandbox approach. What I mean is you craft your outcome based on your actions in the environment your in. The only story mode in a sense is career mode. In career mode you gain money and reputation by completing space contracts and also gain research points using certain scientific instruments to access more parts. In sandbox the world is your oyster, with full access to the parts catalog and unlimited funds.

The fact that Kerbals are used instead of humans is a fun way to imagine the social constructs in-game, but some may find it as an oddity at first. I am sort of under the impression that this is the biggest disconnect from the game with the average audience. I like to look at it like this: I feel way less horrible with myself when my Kerbals die from mis-calculating a burn and crashing into the Mun going 1,000+ M/s, INSTEAD of it being people that share likeness from humans.

Overall I'd give it a solid 9/10. I wish it was updated more often. Mods do help.

This game is not for everyone and it can be extremely hard to get good at in the beginning. People who are looking for a city builder where you defend from other people or are focused on building an economy will be dissapointed. The main point of this game is survival and micro-managing production in order to survive past winter. The game is a bit simple right now, but it is still incredibly addictive and fun. Hours will fly when you play this game.
