This is one of the few games where skill expression exists without it being forced like stupid valo/cs clones. I say this as an ex cs player as well. You can do so many things with the clone, peek mid from 2 angles, shoot from one side, retreat, peek other side and take ppl off guard, etc.

I won a 2v3 (me x2 vs 3 players) by using my clone, pushing recklessly, getting a kill, swapping to my main while leaving that clone behind in the middle of the site as bait, getting the free kill on the distracted guy on my clone, missing the final guy with sniper, but mollying the bomb and barely making enough time to either have him die defusing or having to let the bomb explode. This is IMPOSSIBLE in most other games, in games where you can your aim is movement limited because "CS did it and it's the most played FPS game".

If you want CS, go play CS. This game is good though. They made mistakes that they're fixing. The game has genuine potential. Gl to the devs, I'll be here for the ride.

The game is just straight up amazing, nothing short of exceptional.
Writing, game mechanics, lore, everything weaves together perfectly for a strong and cohesive experience.
Probably the best single player game I've played in recent years, if not ever.

About 50 hours in, I'm nowhere near discovering the whole lore, and it doesn't feel like a burden, quite the opposite in fact, I keep coming back for more.

If you're undecided on the purchase, do yourself a favor and get it.

This game is quite good. Dare I say, very good. It's not your run of the mill recent CoD ripoff, it's a competitive, skill-based game. Being good rewards you greatly, headshots with most weapons are a 1 hit kill, except at very long ranges (obviously you won't 1 hit headshot someone across the map with a pistol. The weapon matters).
The competitive mode is directly linked to Faceit, so you climb the ladder directly, and it shows your position in regards to other people in your league. The balance of guns is ok, the shotgun has been overpowered for a month or so and they are quickly jumping on that and nerfing its range, while buffing its damage at point blank range (there were occasions where you would 1 shot someone 10-15 meters in front of you while getting a hitmaker on someone at 2 meters of distance).

You might have heard negative things about Battalion 1944 or its developers, and that was true back in the day. There were some problems with the kickstarter if I recall correctly, but they are very much trying to make it up to the userbase. People make mistakes, and I feel like they are working hard enough to deserve a second chance.
The playerbase is slowly growing, also (maybe mainly?) thanks to big streamers showing off the beauty of this WW2 game.

The game does have its issues, like the Faceit implementation being somewhat unstable and buggy for some users, and there might be some map reworks on the line soon, but so far, I can't say I'm not enjoying the game. It's good.
I played old school shooters for a while, and this one really catches what was good in your good ol' Medal of Honor, CoD4 Promod, etcetera: it feels like a game straight out of the early 2000s, minus the upgraded graphics of course.
It is rewarding and balanced for the most part. Give it a shot, it goes on sale fairly frequently, and it's got an active playerbase, especially in competitive play.

TLDR: Good game, bad PR (in the past). They're recovering just fine, give them a chance. Devs are active and fixing bugs, big streamers are showing it off, give it a whirl. It's fairly cheap.
