With this being the first xpac release I was actively around for, and the build up towards the launch I was excited for Dawntrail, unfortunately..

The entire MSQ hangs on a single character, Wuk Lumat. Every other character, including yourself, is pushed aside for this over the top character that slowly grates at your sanity until by the end you just wish she'd go away. In the beginning of the story she's fun to be around and explore the lands with, learning more about her and the people around her, I was genuinely enjoying my time and felt invested and connected to her story, by about level 95-96 I was thankful we split off from her. Just for her to return, shoe-horned and pushed into the story at every single point. The story on its own is frankly tedious to get through, but combined with the fact Wuk is pushed in your face every single time it got to the point where I was half-skipping over Wuk's lines as they were that predictable. I really hope we're done with her now.

If Wuk wasn't in the second "arc" of DT, it has a lot of potential to be interesting, with some of the 'minor' side characters having more emotional connection and lore that you care about than the 'main cast'.

The gameplay in DT is great too, the actual content and dungeons have challenge, unlike EW which put you to sleep with the trivial difficulty, the music is wonderful and its a huge shame the entire thing is tainted by the awful writing and the medicore voice acting at times.

TLDR:

Great "content", terrible MSQ, and as a primarily story focused MMO, I can't recommend DT's story or characters. It's repetitive, tedious and entirely forgettable, the second weakest expansion out of the entire game in my opinion.

The complaints people have about the movement are unfounded, the game still feels good as the beta and its just as enjoyable!

Love the game and the effort the devs are putting in to it!

Great game when it works, pathetic performance, tried to power through but it's unplayable with crashes. Dissapointed.

I didn't expect much going into it, but the coziness and just relaxing feeling I got from playing this was great, it's definitely one of them games you can just sit back, relax and enjoy to pass a few hours after a stressful day.

September 2022: Despite absolute tanking player counts, the devs stuck with it and have released a large number of QOL updates which have made the game feel good to play, such as lowering azoth travel costs, the orbs, making xp and gains easier and reworking a few things. The upcoming brimstone expansion and its changes appear to have the game going in the right direction, the increasing player count reflects this. If you want to check out new world, now is a good time!

Old Review (Dec 2021): After further updates + setbacks, it's safe to say the development team are incompetent at best. The game is fun until you reach 60. I can't recommend this anymore.

Old Old review: After being at endgame for a while the game has begun to lose its pace, the changes and the constant bugs make it a chore to play sometimes but it is still one of the games I go back to constantly, some about how it feels to play, the combat, the farming, it feels good to do, something other games can't quite scratch.

The wars when they work are brilliant fun, and Outpost rush is a great gamemode to make some gold and play pvp.

Hesitantly Recommend.

FROM 5 Hours of Gameplay: If you manage to dodge the queue times (pick a slightly lower pop server, they have server merging for if the servers become really empty) then the actual game is really fun, its the first MMO in a while thats managed to grab my attention and I'm having a blast leveling up and grinding my way as a healer, we even managed to occupy monarch's, which opens up even more possibilities.

Can't wait to grind many hours in this.

Early Access Review
It's got a few bugs (Early access) and a small community but playing from EU servers, you still manage to find a game in relatively short time. The Gameplay is really fun and i can't wait to see what the devs do next! (they are very active)

After spending nearly 1000 hours on this game now, I loved it at 50 hours and I love it even more 900 hours later. Definitely a game worth picking up, probably the most in depth and enjoyable zombie survival game I've had the pleasure of playing.

Early Access Review
The game is early access, but great fun. Of course there are some bugs and optimisation problems but it doesn't hinder from the gameplay for me.

It's so immersive and you're sure to get PTSD from all the explosions.
