Every time the developers release a new clan as DLC the game becomes play to win for 3 to 4 months, after which, once the sales have dropped off, they will nerf the new clan so that it doesn't easily beat every other existing clan. The developers will say that they wait until they have a decent idea of what needs to be addressed. Meanwhile players either have to outright ban the offending clans from lobbies, or all agree to target anyone who chooses the overpowered clans until they are out of the game, since they would be unbeatable later on. Either the devs don't know how to identify blatant balance issues in under 3 to 4 months, or the vast majority of their focus is currently on a different project.

Fun game, but predatory business tactics make it a bad investment.

Having never played a previous Gauntlet title, I approached this as a standalone experience with no obligatory features in mind. With that considered, Gauntlet is one of my top games of the year.

On easier difficulty levels, when starting out, the competitive nature of gold collection mechanics make the game hilarious to play with friends. As the challenge isn't too great, using this time to mess around while also levelling up your chosen characters is extremely enjoyable.

Once you've mastered the basics, entering into unfair difficulty offers a substantial challenge. Although the mechanics for each individual player are fairly simplistic and straight forward, when combined, the depth of the combat in a 4 player party astounded me. Reliably progressing through areas requires individual skill with ones character, as well as great teamwork when combining abilities into formidable combinations.

Negative points are few, but include:
- Lack of content
Clearing the game on a lesser difficulty, and then again on Unfair (which is an entirely new experience) will take about 15-20 hours in a 4 player party.
- Uneven Character Responsibility
Following in Magika's footsteps, the Wizard has a wide array of abilities, all of which are important for tackling challenges. The other characters do not have as much diversity though, and some can seem kind of useless at times.
