I purchased this game because the setting and imagery reminded me of Fallout 1. I'm sure it wasn't a main inspiration if it was one at all but I really enjoyed this, like I do any game where you wander helplessly through wistful dunes and baron planes of sand as you search for resources. Nice music, decent exploration and a gameplay loop satisfying enough for the low price. I'd definitely say you should play if you have even the smallest inclination to do so. :)

I had tried to beat this game several times before finally beating it this past week and each time, bar one, my saves got corrupted or some other issue popped up.

The one time I did manage to beat it a few years back was after I brute-forced my way to the end and ultimately got the bad ending since I wasn't prepared in any way. I was so scorned by my other attempts being ruined that I took the bad ending and left the game alone. Even then I still loved the game and thought it was up there for the best in the series.

But now, after taking my time and doing so many side quests, exploring the world and eventually reaching the good ending, I can confidently say that Fallout 1 is the best Fallout game. I recommend that any fan of Fallout play this entry.

Also the soundtrack is absolute perfection. (10/10)

There was a certain ending that reminded me a lot of the final cutscene in the 1997 post nuclear role playing game; Fallout. It wasn't a direct reference. Probably not even a reference at all but the similarities alone made this an easy recommendation. If you like the final cutscene from the 1997 post nuclear role playing game; Fallout then you will almost definitely like a certain ending in this game and should buy this game so you can play it and get that ending. :)
