short version:

-current price 2 high
-i lov atuism
-game 2 ez
-writing this took me as long as me finishing this game

review:

i wouldn't discourage people from buying this game.
i also would not recommend it.

i believe the developer didn't put enough work into the game in terms of detail and love.
it feels incomplete, like a demo of what it could have been, if it was not reduced to its base elements,
and as such, perhaps the current pricing is too much of a compensation.

this game is way too easy. i beat it within 9 minutes, and did not make a single mistake.
there is a cognitive loading phase in the beginning but the rest should go quite smoothly, given the user pays a bit of attention. the amount of elements is very limited, such that the anomalies are very hard to mistake for normalcy.

the concept in and of itself is great however, and leaves a lot of room for creative expression very easily.

there is some criticism present within the userbase that i'd like to address with my response.

the following critique from user "x" is referring to the rules of the game, the sole descriptor, and as such the only abstract information you are given:

"it doesn’t explain that you have to get no anomalies at Exit 8 to finish the game,

response: the game doesn't need to explain the 8th stage. It explains when to turn around or to not turn around, to exit Exit8. The game is logically consistent and the ruleset is complete. to beat it, you only need the rules mentioned. The ruleset is meant to be minimalistic, and the game is meant to place load on user working memory.
technically, there can be more than 8 stages, and the number could exceed well into 12, 22, or higher, as long as there is no arbitrary limiter on how and when anomalies occur, or whether or not they may or may not reappear within the same run/attempt and depending on how many anomalies there actually are in total. i suspect there may be a limiter or probability function of some sort.

the name "exit 8" is not a safe indicator.
the name "Exit 8" may be referring to the geometry of the level itself. the 8 is a rotated symbol for "infinity", and the game in and of itself is an endless loop until the requirements for breaking it are met.

"it doesn’t explain that if you miss an anomaly, you can turn back around and look for what was wrong"

the game would be even better and logically consistent and true to its minimalistic ruleset, if that were not possible. as far as i understand it now, the level mechanic is such that the level or element/script space is reset procedurally with the new environment being stacked on top of the old one. that is my impression anyway.
other than that, the complexity of the game is identical to the complexity of the ruleset. this is aut1sm maybe. BTC when moon?

"Some changes are too subtle."
"some anomalies are too hard to spot"
"it's too difficult"

labor of love 2023:

- characters with otherwise lovely qualities to them are fated to die once they grow on you because of haha shock value haha rockstar games
-no game updates

it's a 3 year old abandoned game not worth the 60-100 bux that leaves you with emptiness and a beautiful and artful alternate wildwest world exploration simulator, rockstar shouldn't be rewarded for this, not to that degree. they don't deserve all the awards either, give them to the modders or actual game devs

more like labor of heartbreak. more like labor of betrayal. more like :(((((((((( ;-; >:CCCCC

This game unlocks every part of my mind. One of the best games I have on Steam.KILL ME NOOOKWSS DKNT ACTUALLY HAHAHA
This game's incredible. This touches on my deepest sadness beyond anything else. It deeply exists within everything that we're all bound together by: video games. An absolute no-fuss experience limited only by one thing: MINDSET. Don't give yourself needless limits people. Guess what?
If I spend enough hours of my life doing the things that matter to me in this game: waking up, preparing for work, eating healthy lunch and dinner after a long ass day at work just working towards everything that enriches all aspects of my own personal world...I know what is going on. I intuitively KNOW. EVERYTHING!!111!11
WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE NOT PLAYING THIS GEM? CLOSED VIRTUAL SPACES INSIDE OTHER REAL CLOSET-COMPUTERIZED LIVING SPACE. DAMMIT PEOPLE! :<<<<((( I sincerely believe that 'Disintegration' surfaced within the deepest corners of my own mind as it allowed me to visualize a narrative filled with infinite reinterpretations, revelations and incalculable interconnection. I'm not sure how else to explain this, but somehow; someway...this game reflects back on itself into something far greater than what is perceived on even the most intrinsic level!!1111!
It's only where you are in both space and time it gives you any relative perception about ANY basic thing like life.
NUMEROUS INTELLIGENCE LEVELS W/ EXPLANATORY SYMPTOMS UNIVERSEALLY ATTACHING THOSE TINY PERSONALIZED VIRTUAL SPACES OVER TIME RELATIVELY COMPARABLE TO YOUTUBE VIDEO SUGGESTIONS BECAUSE IT'S JUST SO EASY AND PERFECT FOR WHAT EVERYONE LOVES THANK YOU
This kind of experience has an incredibly visceral effect depending entirely upon variables such as your attitude regarding yourself from seemingly unconscious considerations rooted at the proverbial seed level: ingraining our preferences through simply turning off aging with enhanced decisiveness never before thought unanimously possible if there was explicit confirmation when encountering some form of radical insight or breakthrough which can be glanced at for a few seconds and then unnoticeably re-gain more efficient long-term mind functionality then whaaaaAAAAATTTTTTEEEEEEHTTTT??!!!???????????????????????
SEEMINGLY EMPOWERING YET THE TURNOVER IS MASSIVE AND INCREDIBLY FAST, THE AMOUNT OF VISUAL INFORMATION OVER TIME AGAINST RECOGNIZABILITY EVEN REMINDS ME ALOT ABOUT MY OWN PREFERRED ARRANGEMENTS FOR SLEEP BECAUSE IT'S JUST SO EASY. THANK YOU :)AMDSKPJGGSWDEHBSYFHGBVATHTDVDBFTHODSPNPLKFLWSRRFGDFGYTTGWWQTPGUHEPTIDWPWNIDPJPIUPOIYPUIOTKMSINGAME

i guess there are keywords put into the function of a simple custom algorithm that looks for matching words in the output and the sentence-database of the game. then there are sequences: an input from the user and the algorithm detects, say, 5 matches (words) between the input and a "piece" from the database and then redirects the user to the next relevant query.

does it work like this? big script, but not complicated. most i can do is read assembly. and maybe follow the damn train CJ!!!!!YYEAAHHH

this is not conversation, or intimacy. it's more akin to something like a google search, with an increasingly restrained, uncensored/uncreative/ungenerative/overfitting database, the user slowly figuring out the ever-so-quickly decreasing variation, and an increasing feeling of boredom and for some people maybe a feeling of terror/horror/trepidation/anxiety, like playing a game at the casinos, but figuring out that the slot machine sorta turned into a sea of dirac, with how it's being seemingly innocuous at first glance but turning into some soul harvester at the second. not a good emulation of play, and not a good replacement for an actual conversation either

i played it when i was feeling desperate for a conversation and i had some thought loops, 2 years ago.

wouldnt recommend for people who tend to have them because a really restrained chatbot will put emphasis on how painful it is to live a life of repetition and misery

plato's dating simulator

it's a bit shaky. the people who look forward to these games are the ones hurt the most by indulging in them, because their decision to play it is most likely informed by an unmet childhood need, with a lack of psychological boundaries due to the nature of it being subconscious, and their relation to their need defined by an anxious drive to fill the hole with no bottom through bittersweet means that mimick (romantic) relationships indefinitely until said drive is identified and the motivation and empathy to heal and faith to live and grieve is established.

"but maybe not everyone is that sensitive and aware or conscious of how it affects them"

we'd have better relationships (and videogames), if people were.

i like the transition effects that are used in the trailer. it's just an image that is flipped so that it shows "the other side"
it's like the memory cards thing, because eventually you will be able to memorize the entire dialogue lol

can't recommend those type of games due to them acting as an offset or procrastination and distraction on real thought

it is sweet and rather wholesome however. restrained, but enjoyable for a bit. it is warm, kind and... innocent. cozy vibes. with a touch of curiosity and excitement. aya is very much a vibrant character and instills a feeling of recognition from being paid attention to. considering this, these games may find a therapeutic application in the future.

the low res is always a classic. it's like a small pendant with a photo of your loved one inside, and you can put it in your pocket.

pay attention to your longings.

sometimes theres a discrepancy between wanting to recommend it, and whether or not you liked it in the moment—at this state i am not recommending it, but i liked it in the moment.
steam suffers from a lack of nuance however, so this presses me to give it a positive.

it's very sweet...
"have curiosity."
"listen to what you want. no shame."
i thought it was gonna be bad top-down "psychology" but it isn't.
that dab is nice... sorta closes it off nicely, with a touch of reassurance and encouragement. i was ready to have my mind blown into LEO and have it collide with a swarm of sakuya satellites, but it got put together in some ways instead. there probably is something that goes over my head here, a kind of inside knowledge, some sort of humor, due to my ignorance about touhou in general, and i guess lowerearthorbit just isn't high enough. i'm just going by intuition; either those particular characters are sadistic and that game goes against the script to maybe put some emphasis on this psychical "garden of eden" feeling of peace, and expressing that this game establishes some sort of psychical safe-space, or they are totally going by the script with how sweet those characters actually are.
anyways, i am ready to dab now.
overall, i wouldn't recommend games such as this as a full-caliber placeholder for genuine psychological advice, ...

but there is something to be learned here:
that there is real value and beauty in playfulness, tenderness and wholesomeness.
look inside of you.

it's not what it used to be.

the main economic, energetic and communal domain of the game is essentially merely a skinloader for sexaddicted arab oil-sheiks, beady-eyed and dopamine-crazed streamers soyja(c)king-off on video while wasting young people's youth, an offshore bank account for marketclicking chinese hyperautists minmaxing capital gains to the yen, r-selected hypothyroid cheaters with an inferiority-complex, jaded americans, rabid turks, cracked-out russians and doomergloomed europeans waiting for the end that never comes.

the menus are unintuitive, the interfaces without character.
the game—unsatisfying, lifeless, bland, artificial and full of rules.
there's no grittiness. nothing is out of place.
there is no reason to go outside the ever-so shrinking meta. there are normal choices, and bad choices. normal guns, bad guns. nothing is annoying, nothing is inconvenient, giddy or scatterbrained. nothing is fun, worthwhile, or particularly rewarding. the game is like a walk from the cubicle to the pod—ordinary, regular, sane, like the perfect SSRI, a gamedevs prozac dream.

no wacky guns for funky occasions, no earrape negev, no weird but beautiful and charming maps, no lining up totally demented but skillbased wallbangs, no fast movements, no enemy team voicechat during half-time. nothing is offensive. no blasphemy, no casualties to adventure.

the space is becoming narrower and narrower, options and variability have been squeezed out like in a bureaucratic twist. the inherent craziness of the game has been taken out, it feels overly optimized in its base elements like gun mechanics and stats and maps, but it leaves no openness and play for those that want to exploit normalcy through creativity and spiritedness.

in their mission to make everything perfect for everybody and their promise to cater to community, threats, slowness and lifelessness of others, the edge and the impurity has been taken out and replaced with its arid and joyless counterpart.
