Hyper Light Drifter does a very good job of just being plain enjoyable. Most games have the enjoyable parts and the unenjoyable parts. Games have grinds, or unskippable cutscenes, or anoying dialogue, or long tutorials, or something that no-one enjoys about them. While such moments threaten to pop up during HLD, I found that there was never a part of the game that I felt like I wish i could "skip past" it.
The worst part is reeating an area over and over again until you defeat it, and the fact tha you don't save until you make some progress. However, this still doesn't take from the game: You can leave and go to anothe part of the map, if you want, and come back later. Plus, finding the right strategy and shfiting each time is extremely enjoyable, and the payoff is huge when you defeat a boss or room you've spend forever on.
In addition, the visuals and music just add to the gameplay. I've found myself just stand still sometimes to take everything in
In summary, there's just nothing no to enjoy about Hyper Light Drifter.

Let me start by saying that not only do I love Steve Jackson's gamebooks, I also love the (majority) of the tin man adaptations. With that out of the way, I did not enjoy this game. It was fun for a while, but it is to randomly dependant on you finding certain hints. If you even try a bit of divulging from the main hints, then everything screws up, and everyone dies. Most of these are fun because of the large amounts of branching paths, and the slow crawl of progress that you make as you learn to correct your mistakes. However, this instead has you repeat the same process over and over, never making more progress, just finding out the right puzzle pieces.
It was fun for a while, but not worth the $10. Buy it while it's on sale.

Early Access Review
Crawl is a great game for a group of friends, or even a good 1-player dungeon crawler. The game has a few balancing issues, but it's mainly pretty fair, and is a blast every single time. 10/10 would crawl again.
