With friends? Yeah, its an okay game to play for literally 2 minutes.
Everyone else is not. your. friend.
Matchmaking is stupid bad. Can't even git gud with the uneven playing field you'll experience with other players.

Its sad because the style choice for this game is beautiful and the card system is a great idea.

The story is going to be told in really bland, visual-novel type setting. With the character models using the same 4 moves over and over again.

Game-play is sluggish, which really holds back the "swordplay" / "ninja" genre. You're mostly on your own, and you can call out for support with the other characters but they BARELY offer any type of help.

All fan-service and no substance.

Bought on launch-day with a couple of technical issues but can finally safely say that a lot of bugs are squashed and things are running a lot smoother.

I can relive my first experience with the game back on the vita on PC. For first-timers, the game takes you through the usual JRPG elements but doesn't hand hold you for long. You'll soon explore what the sleepy city has to offer and make memorable moments with such a lovable cast of characters. Talk to everyone you meet, interact with everything. The game intends to pull you in for hours and demands nothing less!

Perfect to come back to every once in a while, or even just for the long haul. Solid game.

Big step up from Overdose -- which they make a lot of reference to during the game so while it's not recommended you play the fist one, you'd get a better picture, and I'm sure you'd enjoy this more if you did play the first game.

Caligula's turn-based mechanics is something entirely new and refined from Overdose, and planning your moves right makes for a rewarding pay-out! The game is stylish, the characters are lovable right down to the NPCs and the music pops off.

This game's a slow-burn and it's meant to be played with care and love.

This stylish Action JRPG was a game I've been closely following and waiting for a while before it released.
But---

After finishing one of the protagonist's side of the story, like any good JRPG, this game has replayability.
It's got the basics down - an innovative combat system, skill-tree AND cute add-on design for your player and companions! Speaking of companions, the base building in this is super addictive. I personally found myself grinding for items and gifts to give companions instead of progressing the story.

The story was the cliche "save the word" gig with it's own twist and turns but nothing too out of the box. Having two protagonist exist on the same timeline perhaps made it challenging to tell a solid story, nonetheless, Scarlet Nexus delivers elsewhere.

I wish they expanded on the world a bit more because there were times that I felt gameplay plateaued. I kept going back to the same places and it felt a bit repetitive, especially when the monsters that were thrown at us were basically the same but "harder". I'd give hella props to the design of these monsters!

A strong 7 out of 10 for me. Will go back to TRY and finish the other protag's story.

If you're a big enough fan of the series, perhaps you'll be able to tolerate the repetitive gameplay.
The game tries its best to capture the animation series with the soundtrack and elemental bending, but the story is not compelling enough to make me want to finish it.

So unless you're a bigger fan of dying and torture, get this game - probably better if it's on sale though.
