wtf how is this so good???

I like card games, strategy/tactics games, and some degree of Marvel stuff. I'm really liking the final result a lot more than I thought I would. I think the character writing is decent, I had a few good laughs/chuckles. The character models aren't the most HD thing in 2022, pretty sure this is just the same choice of fidelity they had for XCOM2.

I forgive Jake Solomon for working on this instead of XCOM 3. (I still want it though)

Instead of rolling for accuracy, you're rolling for options (the cards you draw) which you can of course influence by deck building and combining heroes. This actually sort of reminds me of an indie game called "Fights in Tight Spaces". You design an eight card deck for each hero and then combine three of them into one overall deck. Enemies show up with different properties and you need to figure out how to defeat them, meet conditions and stay alive all at the same time. It's a puzzle game where you bring a key you've designed.

Much less brutal than XCOM, and a bit more like a puzzle game. You can still get destroyed by playing your cards bad but the heroes can unlock some really strong cards and synergies, and you can always tune the difficulty whenever you want. (Higher difficulty = higher xp/costume money)

As of writing this, there is indeed a form of microtransaction in the game, but 1) it's cosmetic only and 2) you get literally everything by buying the season pass. In other words, the microtransactions solely exist to let you pick and choose extra costumes instead of shelling out forty/fifty bucks on the Legendary edition/seasonPass (costumes are 3 bux each). And yes, the base came has some degree customization built in free.

Puzzle/Card games, Strategy/Tactics and Marvel.
If you enjoy at least two of them, I think you might enjoy this game.

It's a choices-matter/butterfly-effect interactive movie. It's pretty decent and I think fairly well executed.

The story telling is great and I think it was mostly interesting all the way through.

The gameplay is very much just:
- Walk around
- Watch Event
- Press a button to change the decision point
- Look at a timeline to see what changed/revealed

Which, there's nothing wrong with that. Just set your expectations straight. I recommend it for what it is.

note: if you're afraid of this game being spooky, it's not. The environment might try to feel kinda spooky to be in, but this is not a spooky game. It's not meant to be one. Just gives you a feeling of abandoned burned building.

Early Access Review
Yeah this game is a fine adaption of the Nemesis Lockdown board game. I got it for "free" because I ranked in the top 50 of the beta, and I originally got into the beta because of notifications as a kickstarter backer of the original physical board game.

It supports solo and multiplayer, and also supports rejoining multiplayer games in case you disconnect.

It's mostly functionally there. Early Access title so there's still some QoL improvements they can make. Tutorial is pretty weak (just a bare bones in-game 'wiki'). If you've never played the actual board game, this will be difficult to learn imo. The voice acting is pretty bad and the character models are kinda... uh... okay. The game itself works though, and that part is fine.

My main complaint is that even as a veteran of the physical board game, this game skips over a lot of events and actions, (or at least doesn't highlight them enough to let you know what just happened). I imagine it does this in the interest of saving time, but it can confuse players who aren't paying razor sharp attention (or newbies in general). That being said, you can click around to see what happened on the previous turn, but sometimes you forget to check and you just kinda keep going on with your turn.

I'm recommending this game in it's current state only because it is a functional digital adaption of the board game. If you are unfamiliar with the physical board game, I would not recommend this unless you're determined to learn it. I recommend finding a rule book to familiarize yourself with the game.

NOTE: they have mentioned that they intend on improving the tutorial on their roadmap, so by the time you read this review in the future, it could be a good game for newbies too. I'll try to remember to amend this review should that be added.

It's open world Souls. A succinct description I think.

Gameplay is pretty standard so if you're a fan of the Souls series you'll have no problem here. If you're not familiar to the series, this is still a decent entry point. It's a wee bit more user-friendly.

The only real negative I can think of worth mentioning is the game is somewhat un-optimized.
- Sometimes the game stutters even on high-end hardware a little bit. (But not enough to interrupt the game)
- Sometimes things will take a while to load even on an SSD.
- If you enjoy multi-tasking while video-gaming, Elden Ring will make your computer cry. (You still can, but you'll notice a performance drop on your other apps or even overlays like Shadowplay.

That being said, game is pretty good so have at it.

Early Access Review
Humorous storyline and generally delivers on the promise of destruction. Would love to see more puzzles for this game.

As others have mentioned, the only thing this game is missing regarding the destruction is that an entire building can be propped up by a single 1x1 block. You have to literally tear down every piece of support to get an entire structure to fall.

Otherwise it's a blast to play.

This game was pretty great in the first year, but there's two things that are very important to note

- This game hasn't gotten an update since 2018. Supposedly they're working on the sequel or something. Technically this game is still functional so it's not a huge problem in that sense (unless you run into some crashes)

- Most importantly: This game's user-made beatmaps are all associated with YOUTUBE videos. At first, this was really good because there's a ton of music on youtube and people can make beatmaps for any youtube video out there. Here's the big catch though: Youtube videos get delisted all the time for various reasons. As soon as a video is removed from youtube, the beatmap is lost along with it.

I cannot recommend this Soundboxing in it's current state. It was good, and technically can still function good, but is pretty dead. If some big update hits or a sequel comes out, then we might be gucci... but until then...

Generally a pretty decent game. Something tends to break with every major update, but usually gets relatively fixed in a few days. Or a week. Point is, the game is still fun enough despite it's flaws that I've been playing since season 0.

I've got a big chunk of hours here on Steam but even more on Origin probably if you consider that it was only introduced on Steam during Season 7. It's worth playing if you enjoy the genre.
