over a year later from when i first posted this review, despite the fact it’ll likely never be seen because of this, i’m rewriting this to double down on how much worse the game has become in all aspects possible. the new bugs and issues that were not present before which are now added to the old bugs piles on top of each other to make this much worse than i first thought it could ever become. i thought this hit rock bottom a year ago, but man, i was wrong, because it went further down in quality.

since the beginning, the ai in this game are incredibly inconsistent both in visual detection and movement. there have been times where the ai enemies have detected me through walls despite them being completely solid, with no cracks, while i was making no noise or movements. their aim anchor while moving around their target is so incredibly precise that they can easily wallbang you by running upwards of 180 degrees around your position from the other side of a wall in the adjacent room after spotting you. they don’t hug the wall, either-they keep their distance, yet still somehow have laser precision on your position through the wall. no one in real life would ever do this.

the game’s optimization i mentioned was worse a year back, and somehow, they made it even worse. even going for all performance settings on a medium-high end setup, and setting all graphics to minimum, it still struggles and has very, VERY bad frame drops in certain areas during missions. it’s clearly a result of particles, shading, and lighting where it has these issues, because it’s often when you enter a building where you immediately notice this frame drop. they’ve had so long to fix and adjust the graphics so they actually work for the recommended settings on low graphics at the bare minimum, yet they have not done so.

the ai teammates, despite there being an update around a month ago to improve them, are not any better whatsoever. all they added were extra commands and formations for the ai teammates to follow you in. they will still get in your way and refuse to move, they will still move out of cover and engage enemies whether you want the suspect dead or alive, and to make things worse, now automatically restrain suspects and civilians and secure evidence, making them easily vulnerable if you have not fully cleared the area. not even halfway through the second unlocked mission did i encounter this for the first time, showing that they downgraded the logical decisions and practicality of them when you need them to survive and stay out of the way. ordering commands to fall in behind you doesn’t always work either, sometimes they’ll stand in front of you.

i am more than disappointed with how things have changed for the worse, and encourage anyone to never use the “practice” option unless you want to get easily frustrated. play multiplayer whenever you can, because despite it being more chaotic, people know when to take cover or not. if you want this game, wait for it to be on sale. it’s just not worth it right now.

this game, despite being rather simple and short, has some replayability and a ton of symbolism that may be overlooked initially. the doom-like movement mixed in with the retro effects like teardown, it's hard to say this game has room for improvement. the last line in the game before the credits makes you really think about legacy beyond someone's death

incredibly unoptimized, puzzles are unclear and require you to just brute-force some of them, and it feels like not much effort was put into the mechanics either. character jumps whenever they feel like it which causes you to have to mash the jump button sometimes so they finally go up a couple feet in the air.

yes, this is a free game, but whether it's free or not i have the same opinion on it. the audio in this game is trash, with footsteps having a lot of background noise to them, although not noticeable at first. broken puzzles that don't work, confusing solutions that just make you scratch your head as you wonder what you did to get that right, etc. quality is so unoptimized, with random lag spikes happening from animations or triggers. the atmosphere and the genre of the game is alright, i must say, because it does make you feel like you're in a place with no escape

a good game that makes you use your brain, with optional objectives present to really give you a challenge. the terminals are a bit annoying to figure out at first, but once you learn it's rather simple

literally just ultimate edition(even says so in the credits when you beat the game), as well as the achievements not working properly. on a plus, compared to the old containment breach, there isn't any memory access errors or random intervals where the mouse just moves to a random position, which might be part of the ultimate edition, but i have yet to find that out

i want a refund

feels overpriced for a game with little to no point and so many bugs, and it gets boring after less than an hour. like a few other reviews have stated, there isn't much to do, and sometimes the game randomly crashes, unable to handle the sheer physics of this game. might be an issue just on my end, but this game feels like it's worth 5 dollars tops for how low quality it is

overall, this game is great. playerbase is terrible like in any competitive game, but it feels like in this game it's so much worse. graphics and performance are incredibly optimized at least, so you don't have lag really interrupting you that often like a lot of vr games on cheaper headsets. bots in this game are very buggy and have been for a long time, it feels like the devs have just tossed them aside and not worked on them for awhile because they glitch out in some of the default maps upon starting the offline matches. besides that, the only improvement i'd recommend is encouraging the playerbase to be more respectful with some mechanics like community awards or feedback left on profiles in-game like cs:go does, because it feels like what you can say in this game is completely unregulated which is not the best for people who are casual players

the protagonist is a typical american who mispronounces nevada and has a voice that made me proceed to cause him as much pain as possible for my first 15 minutes of gameplay. after you get the m4 you quickly realize it's utterly useless and in speedrunning the game, you never really put it to use because the shotgun is a one-tap at close range for enemies. a lot of things in this are great, don't get me wrong, but good christ i don't think i've gotten so heated from trying to get any achievement in any game like the alien remover achievement. it's frustrating with the physics being unreliable and inconsistent, and it's pointless anyways because learning to speed through it gives you no benefit anyways in the later stages


i am later adding this to say that the 28-second achievement is the worst achievement you could ever put and the physics in this game accumulate to making this achievement way more difficult than it has to be because your mechanics are so terrible it makes me want to stuff my face into a bowl of spoiled milk mixed with fentanyl
