the protagonist is a typical american who mispronounces nevada and has a voice that made me proceed to cause him as much pain as possible for my first 15 minutes of gameplay. after you get the m4 you quickly realize it's utterly useless and in speedrunning the game, you never really put it to use because the shotgun is a one-tap at close range for enemies. a lot of things in this are great, don't get me wrong, but good christ i don't think i've gotten so heated from trying to get any achievement in any game like the alien remover achievement. it's frustrating with the physics being unreliable and inconsistent, and it's pointless anyways because learning to speed through it gives you no benefit anyways in the later stages

i am later adding this to say that the 28-second achievement is the worst achievement you could ever put and the physics in this game accumulate to making this achievement way more difficult than it has to be because your mechanics are so terrible it makes me want to stuff my face into a bowl of spoiled milk mixed with fentanyl

i get that scarabs were an important part of egyptian culture but you didn't have to have THIS many bugs

all things aside from bugs, this game's alright. mejais are currently very buggy and prestige has no benefit so it doesn't feel worth it, especially when you could prestige in less than a day lmao

the fact that you have to pay over twice the original price for the game to be able to get the rest of the achievements is annoying, and you can't get a perfect game without it. otherwise a classic and fun fps game, but just for that sole reason of being so ridiculously priced for such a low quality game i dislike it

and just to add, this game is full of bugs that have never been fixed, like in crash site by killing the soldiers upon arrival you can get an m16 without sound effects, and the characters not moving their mouth when talking in some missions. so many small details that are not there even though they added some small and relatively unnoticed things that they didn't have to.

It does exactly what it is supposed to, although I wish it had more options in terms of playing sounds. This includes overlapping which I want to see the most, but everything else works great and it has good volume adjustments you can make with a few clicks.

This game originally was amazing and incredible. Sure, it was similar to Dead by Daylight, but it brought forth new mechanics and jumpscares that would startle you better. A year later, it's pretty much dead. No one plays on multiplayer servers, and those who do are hackers who can easily decompile the game and modify it because no anticheat or anything was put in place to prevent something as simple as Cheat Engine from completely deconstructing the code with basic techniques. I have an RTX processor and 32 gigabytes of RAM, and yet this game has random lag spikes even at the lowest quality setting. It's not optimized and the update just proved to be a glimpse of hope that the game would be continued and lived on. The new level is terrible, and the achievements for it aren't even set up correctly. This means you can't get any of them until they fix them. This game had potential, and it was ruined because they pretty much have abandoned the game, with a half-assed attempt of creating a new map so people thought it would be continued. The progress is too slow for it to be that of a game that the developer wants to work on, and just a crumpled up piece of paper that they don't want to unravel again.

I've played this game since around when it first came out, in October of 2020. Time flies when you're having fun, huh? I wasn't and am still not the type to grind the game past what the developer(s) intended, where I haven't abused the custom difficulty to get as high of a level as possible. It's not the level that matters to me, but the amount of time you put into this game that justifies your experience at the game.

During the early stages of this game's development, there was only one developer. Everyone was pressuring him to hire a team because working on a project this big and ambitious by yourself is something you can only do for so long. The two other main developers of this game that he evenutally added were Ben Lavender, and Corey Dixon(who is quite important for my review and a lot of the perspectives I have of this game's future.) They also added another artist, Jack Skinner, who has so far done so much to add to the visual appeal of the game. They were added about ten months after the game's Steam release, and both CJ and Lavender were previously working on a different game project called Starcaller under the name Monarch Studio. On the Steam Page for this game, it seems promising as a VR puzzle game, one which was promised regular updates and events. However, as you may have guessed...the game was abandoned. Its last update was in May of 2021, and since it didn't have many reviews, I'd say this went relatively unnoticed.

They might have not been the best suited for the job, and didn't seem reliable for this game's future, but at least they made progress. Keep in mind that the two hired developers had just abandoned a VR puzzle game, and were moving on to a PC/VR horror game. This was quite a major jump, and there isn't much to determine whether they had the experience to help push this update forwards. However, what determines success the most reliably is experience, which both developers on the surface didn't have much of; their game appeared nice, but it's still riddled with bugs upon looking online at reviews, videos, and discussions, which were left unfixed. They were noticed, based on the roadmap I found on the game, but weren't resolved. For this game, a lot of the bugs from before they joined were noted and being fixed. Within the first couple months of them joining, many of the bugs had been fixed or had been minimized, and many new updates were put under way. There was also a beta branch of the game that the main dev, Dknighter, still had open, which allowed for a lot of feedback to be made for the update in August of 2021 that added D.O.T.S. and two new ghosts. This is the point I consider where the game was at its peak in development and progress. This also was during the time I took my first break from the game, as less than two months after that break, the new evidence was added.

When I came back to the game a few months later in spring of 2022, I found myself playing the game for another half a year before I started to realize that the game's progress was slowing down. Not as in they were becoming burnt out on ideas, but they were dragging their feet on progress. When the level rework was announced to be in progress and to be released soon in mid-2022, like many players, I was excited for it. It gave me another boost in spending time playing the game and having fun, but it also revealed how much things slowed down. There wasn't a beta branch for the progression update they had just announced, and it was easy to think of why this was. I imagined they'd wait until they'd revealed a lot of the new mechanics before releasing beta playtesting. Months passed, and there were delays in the update. People were fine with that despite noticing, but this is where I notice that the main dev hadn't done as much, like new suggestions for updates. It felt like he wasn't the developer anymore, and that he was sort of taking a break. The 2022 roadmap originally saw both parts of the progression update being released towards the end of 2022, and the news for the game on Steam saw many previews for these updates that were to come. The custom difficulty update was pushed back to September because of how long the VR update took(despite CJ and Lavender both programming a game that was exclusively in VR) and thus pushed the progression update. Even in their updated roadmap for that year, which involved giving more time for updates so they had extra room in case something happened, both parts of the progression update are due to be released this year; even then, it seems that this wasn't enough, because the first half of the update that we recently received has had a plethora of issues, more than the previous major updates. I'll continue talking about the progression update soon, but there's some things with the developers around this time I want to mention first.

CJ has had quite a bit of controversy, and certainly hasn't kept his overall impression of being a likable game developer; the first part that started to make players dislike him was the reporting system that was first introduced. The reporting system itself was terrible, where only actions were clearly taken against cheaters and rarely against those who still broke rules. The reports are filtered in a way where the report count and the offenses were prioritized, which without any moderators for the reporting system puts it entirely on the development team to take action against those who break the rules in the game, not moderators or staff members which would make the report system more reliable and efficient. None of the bans are automatic, and they definitely don't inspect the reports enough, because there's been high-level legit players I've played with, one being around 17k, who got banned for awhile because people reported them and the developers did not look into that player's game statistics, like playtime. The most ludicrous reason for reporting, which Corey implemented but later ended up being merged into the hate speech option, was swearing profusely. SWEARING. Attempting to limit offensive language in a horror game is pretty pointless if by instinct when someone gets jumpscared or spooked, they end up cursing, and provided I have never encountered anyone who was banned even once for swearing(including racial slurs), it's pretty much a joke of a report option. The other thing I recall was a Discord developer getting fired for posting NSFW personal photos of some girl, and CJ publicly thought that this developer shouldn't get fired. It's not very professional to mention some event like that to begin with, but to take the opposite side of what most people appear to take has its consequences. Ever since this ban report update, Corey has repeatedly had controversies, and has also made some bad decisions for the game's development, like no beta testing for this progression update.

Back to the progression update and to the conclusion of this review, and the continued issues of the game having a small dev team. Currently, despite my excitement for the level wipe and this update, I have to say I can't recommend the game right now in its current state, if you're looking for a game to put a lot of time into. The progression update is even further behind despite all the extra time they gave for it in the roadmap, and there's still bugs that have existed for over a year like one where you cannot be killed by the ghost in specific locations. However, I think this review will change soon once things smooth out, because there's still a lot of work being put into the game, although it has not been progressing at the speed they set it for numerous times. The root of the problems this game has and the potential solutions are debatable in my eyes, but it's important to note the causes and effects of each decision they have made. I genuinely hope this game doesn't die in the upcoming years, but to me it feels that way with the current decisions being made.

good game, lots of fun to mess with the ai and play campaign with others, but perma bans unfortunately include singeplayer campaign with external client modifications for experimentation
