Early Access Review
Loving this game. With some polish it has the chance to be a classic that inspires imsim developers for decades.

So far the bones are good but there are definitely glitches. A common and annoying one is that when I try to click on an interactive object it'll flick my camera to the side and this seems to happen most with doors and light switches.

Anecdote, I almost died of hypothermia while waiting out corpo cops in an air vent.

spooky fish catching game that nails tone. it also is the first game since the 2015 mad max game that gave me a satisfying vehicle upgrade system. fish tetris.

TLDR: it's poorly optimized but if you wanna get a taste of soulsgames while being stylish as hell, check this out. Spider is known for "AA" (see: AAA a decade ago) games, so souls fans could check it out to understand just how much work FS puts into really tuning their systems.

The game as a whole is a C+ compared to the FromSoft titles it's trying to emulate, but I appreciate that it has a pause button and easy mode options (for those who arent achievement hunters anyway)

I've only had the game crash on me once, though i did have to decrease the graphics options to about medium-high despite using an RTX 2080 Ti. CPU useage is pretty high for this game, oddly.

Combat in the game is passable, even fun at times, and the encounters arent as varied as in FromSoft titles though the devs definitely did try. It definitely feels like a budget version despite costing almost the same price. As far as /feel/ i guess i'd describe it as somewhere between bloodborne and dark souls 2?

area design feels more metroidvania-y than the souls games. The first few major bosses provide traversal powers

VO and plot make it less obtuse than FS titles so i'll give that a point in its favor.

THE FASHION THOUGH HOLY MOLY. If youre someone who appreciates "fashionsouls" and "elden bling" this game delivers.

my GOD ive only played this for a couple hours and it sucked me in. a worthy successor to thief for real. everything feels like it was placed with purpose and the map feels so good to explore and find shortcuts for it scratches the same itch as Dark Souls 1's interconnected map.

definitely passes the "bubble wrap" aka 'do the controls feel good at a tactile level' test. for a lot of folks, lowfi means janky, but not here.

i spent most of my time limping around because my HP was low because I snuck out into the light to check my ammo (have to look at the revolver's cylinder which cant be seen in the dark) but wasnt listening for a patrols footsteps.

if youre a fan of the dishonored or thief games check this out! even right now in early access!

This game isnt anything special unless all you want is to run around being a cat in a well rendered dystopia. Then its solid.

It doesnt have a ton of substance beyond "be a cute little meow meow in a hong kong inspired city!" The writing is okay but they made choices that don't really make sense in order to up the drama when it probably wasnt necessary to do so.

Hard West meets Dishonored. If youre like me and liked both, you'll love this one. 5 sequential campaigns that each can be completed in an evening that all weave with each other narratively. There's even a loose homage to Harold from the fallout games.

The twin stick combat feels good and the immersive sim puzzles dont overstay their welcome. Just be sure to bind a key to Tactical Mode if you're not the best at this sort of game.

This is the most approachable souls game by far! I bounced right off other fromsoft games. As long as you spend your runes the progression loss isnt the worse. hell, if you die a bunch at a spot it means you have nothing to lose! the added summoning mechanic (return to Church of Elleh at night after meeting the one-eyed lady!) has made bosses so much more manageable for me, someone who has not yet Gitten Gud.

Granted im only 5 hours in, still in the intro zone, but thats way better than before. I'm starting to really get why people love soulsborn games. the combat is as robust and satisfying as people say it is!

this is the only skill based roguelike i havent bounced off of. the goofy potty humor is my jam and mechanically the game is pretty slow as far as bullet hells go, which is ideal for me.

also being raised christian and knowing the biblical references is fun.

A walkin' and talkin' sim, this is a story that reminds me of Hemmingway's Hills Like White Elephants, but better. It's a long goodbye with a setting that is interactive in a way that feels logical.

Only got my feet wet so far, but even the short amount i've played feels like its worth the value. Gone Home was $20 and that felt worth it. This game is even better.

It's a AAA rogue-like with memorable characters, great acting, and that's about exploration and experimentation. No huffy Dishonored penalties to killing- everyone just comes back in the morning anyway. Just figuring out what to do when and where things are. Lots of locked doors with interesting ways to open them.

Think Dishonored but in a 60s retro sci fi setting. And built more for fun. More color. More banter. Less consequences. And NO SAVE SCUMMING!

I want Julianna to stab me.
