Had a really fun time with this! It's a compact stealth-action game with a lot of care put into each level, and enemy encounter. The presentation is easily the highlight, and if you're looking to scratch that early MGS/Splinter Cell itch, you can't go wrong with this, especially for the price.

If you like classic and modern Resident Evil titles, this game is a no-brainer. It's not on the scary side either so if you want all the gameplay mechanics of a survival horror game, without the "horror" but some creepiness, this is definitely worth checking out.

I went into this with high expectations, and the game delivered on every front. This is one of the best games I've played all year, and I highly recommend it. If you like games with extremely tight controls and a great sense of movement, then you need to play this. The game starts off simple, with a Boomerang attack, which you can recall, however, the more you play, the game introduces more moves, as well as increasing your health by 1. The game nails the difficulty curve, with the starting levels training you to understand the flow of movement, and with later levels fully expecting you to use every move at your disposal.

After a few levels, you'll see little incentive to remain on the ground, and will be flying across the arena, utilizing everything you've learned against a variety of enemy types that manipulate the air around you. Seeing tons of enemies on-screen becomes less intimidating as you learn to prioritize the targets you need to get to, since there are always specific enemies in each wave that you have to take out. The slow-mo ability works pretty well, and you never feel OP, because it becomes downright essential when timing your throws. The world is beautiful, with varied areas, and the game has tons of accessibility options as well. There's also some light world-building, with one NPC you can talk to, but it's more about setting the tone rather than telling a story.

The game never felt cheap to me, and you can always see where you messed up. It’s challenging, for sure, and failing near the very end of a level can be a bit frustrating, but it feels glorious when you come back and finish it without barely taking any damage.

The game is a bit on the shorter side, but it still took me a good 4 and a half hours to beat it, even though plenty of Steam reviews mentioned a 2-hour length. I think it's worth it, and the level of polish justifies the price.

Yeah, I really liked this one and is an early contender for my personal GOTY. Pretty simple game overall, with really fascinating world-building, characters, and a sublime sound design. Hard to fault it for anything, and I thought the length was perfect as well. Every weapon in this game feels good to use, and the main Harpoon is a joy to wield, both in combat and traversal. There are also some very intimate moments in this game that I won't spoil, that is done extremely well, and you rarely see that in games. Some haunting set pieces, and very easy collectibles that are pretty meaningful I'd say. Highly recommended!

A truly GODLIKE roguelike! Easy contender for GOTY and sets a new bar for how you add narrative to the roguelike/lite genre!

So, I finally got around playing Arkane Studio's Prey and thought I'd share some impressions based on my 7 hours into it.
But before that, I'd like to talk about its release and reception.

Prey is an immersive sim that is inspired by System Shock(which also inspired Bioshock), and not the original Prey that came out in 2006. It's actually nothing like it and only takes the name from it. This is the first misstep in the game's announcement and release, as players familiar with Prey(2006), went in expecting a first-person shooter, and not an immersive sim. While the games in the genre are critically acclaimed, it's still a very niche genre, and that's exactly what Prey is.
Bethesda, the publisher for the game also never marketed it properly. They released trailers that made the game look like a survival horror shooter, and even when the game was close to release, it had next to nothing marketing.

These are the two biggest factors why Prey failed, and never got the recognition it deserved as one of the best games of 2017.
Now with that out of the way, here are some things that I really like about this game.

Extremely detailed environments, where everything feels purposefully placed, and designed to strengthen environmental storytelling. There are tons of systems in this game, and yet none of them feel overwhelming, and you'll be going through the machines, menus and computers (in-game), like a pro after the first few hours.
A refreshing amount of freedom, that you'd expect from games like Deus Ex, Bioshock, System Shock, and Half-Life. You can go about every situation and encounter in a variety of ways, and the game never punishes you for doing things the way you want to. You can invest your skill points in a variety of trees, that have a meaningful impact on the way you want to handle a situation or an encounter with an enemy.GLOO Cannon is a fantastic weapon, that not only freezes enemies but can be used to create pathways. Don't want to find a vent or hack a terminal to the second floor? Not a problem, just GLOO Cannon your way up there.Enemy encounters feel like actual puzzles instead of shootout sections, and using your skills, the environment and inventory, isn't only encouraged, but actually necessary. I won't go in detail about the plot, but it's very good, and totally not what you'd expect based on it's trailers and marketing. The writing is great, and it's up to you how much you want to invest yourself in the history of both the area you're in, what went wrong and what happened over the years that led to where you are now. Again, you can get a good enough experience just by going through what the game offers you as you do the main missions, or you could spend time going through logs, and environments, and figure things out in detail. The sound design of this game is orgasmic to the point where I purposefully contaminated my suit with radiation because it used an accurate sound made by a Geiger counter. The combat is great, and you have a variety of weapons and abilities to do things your way, and it reminds me a lot of Dishonored, where player choice is prioritized over everything else.
If you enjoyed games like Deux Ex, Bioshock and System Shock, you should definitely play this.
