what terrible writing and reactionary story. 11 years later it still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks

i honest to god think the developers of this game are the dumbest people alive. there were instances where I found myself questioning the cognitive capacity of the people who made story and lore. It's disheartening to witness what appears to be a lack of basic understanding in areas such as common sense. theres nothing here. any deliberate intervention is just stupid. they just like gore, thats as far and as deep the game goes.

horror games can benefit from mystery. if you are good writer/game developer, you will use mystery to reveal some sort of narrative thread or clever twist. every single story and mechanic this game implemented has only resulted in one reaction: "wow these guys are really dumb, why would do it this way"

There is so much potential here, and I believe it can still become a great game. But right now, its very frustrating to deal with bugs and just hmm disappointing mechanics. I can't wait to change this review in a few months or years (take your time!).

It just isn't fun yet, because it sucks to work hard to solve a case and then experience a series (item spawns, lighting, ai) bugs that ruin everything.

9 years later the game still holds up.

While the re-playing the game might make one feel like the choices don't impact the story that much, in the moment they still feel intense and that's mostly due to good writing.

Its a story about proletarianization.
That is essentially a crucial part of the genre of mid-80s-clandestine-society-gritty-hard-boiled-detective. Urban poverty and perceived abandonment by the state are in every episode.

And it works with fables! Oh you were royalty or a magical creature? Now you have to pay rent! And deal with incompetent bureaucracies and loan sharks!

Honestly, worth revisiting. A good game. Enjoyed it more this year then when I was 13.

Great ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game
Its survival part is ok, but the horror and sandbox-building aspects of the game are great.
Great story too, and devs have been consistent with the updates.

I play co-op, really makes the experience a lot better and assures fun time with friends
