Linguistically speaking (I'm a linguist), there is actually not a country called "America". Plus, it isn't said as "Uh-mehr-ih-kah", it's said as "Ah-may-rree-kah." It's a Spanish name, not an English one. Ustados Unidos de America. The United States of America is a country, but America is not. America consists of two continents. North America and South America.

Techincally, the U.S.A. is called "the Federal Republic of the United States of America" (F.R.U.S.A.), as it is a Federal Republic, not a Democracy. Hence, the use of delegates in the final Presidental election vote results, which determines the outcome of who the next President of the Federal Republic of the United States of America will be, instead of the popular vote being used as a determination of the results of said election.
