First of all, i'm a big fan of Stalker. I've finished all games, most books, a ton of modifications.
I even know some developers of this game, but even considering that i'm not gonna turn blind on issues and ignore comparison to previous game.

My short answer is that game is 6\10.
I would recommend to wait more updates and mods to fix various design and performance issues.

In details:
Is this a "good old Stalker game that people wanted?!". Somewhat yes.
The thing is, it really is, featurewise, the same OLD game, even less at times. If you are a fan, you may simply play it and try to compare it to Call Of Pripyat from 2010 or even Clear Sky. You will find a lot of downgrades.

Positives:

1. Visuals - game indeed looks gorgeous. Effects, weather, anomalies, world regarding visual are 10\10. Even tho effects may be buggy at times, that can be fixed with time

2. Sound - gun and world sounds awesome, mutants on the other hard are mixed - some sound horrifying, some confusing. But at current moment a log of sound bugs are present

3. Story - is overall enjoyable, it keeps you interested on what happens next

4. Combat feeling - due to sound and effect improvements it was greatly improved and shooting guns feels fun.

5. Ukrainian VA - voice acting for UA language is pretty good and enjoyable

Negatieves:

1. Combat logic - first of all it seems that AI haven't changed at all. The main issue for almost 20 years remains - bots simply ignore any obstacle like vegetation, night time of day, cover or distance. After entering combat there is no way to hide from this stupid AI menace. They always know where you are, they will shoot you through walls if needed. The will enter in building 1 by one using the same door. They will throw perfect 150 meter grenades right inside your pockets. They won't stop shooting and kill their own if they stay on the way, also applies on allied NPCs that can kill you

2. World exploration - you will encounter a lot of places that you will never visit again, because reaching them is hard and you basically don't have any reason to. It's frustrating how exploration was butchered. Map is huge and nothing was done to traverse it faster. Considering that everything is now closed behind animation you need to always slow down and chug on another Non-Stop energy drink to run again. Artifacts for stamina are too random to rely on them and is you want to upgrade suit, not only you need to find suit that will have these upgrades, but ALSO THIS TECHNICIAN CANNOT INSTALL THIS UPGRADE, LOOK IN ANOTHER CASTLE MARIO
While playing for 17 hours i was NOT ABLE to find even 1 teleportation anomaly and got only ONE hercules tablet. No one sales hercules during first 4 locations, wtf?
Inside location stalker groups that may led you in desired location for free or for money?-no
Small outposts\additional bases on same location that will help you get rid of junk you want to sell?-no

3. Player choices and reputation - at current moment you fell basically ignored when siding with faction and doing quests for them. You completed all their quests, earned a good reputation, everyone on the base changed color to green and you think you will benefit from this? Wrong!
- Trade prices won't change
- Friendly faction won't leave some presents in your stash from time to time
- You will not get more stuff to buy from traders
- You won't get ability to summon friendly faction to help you in combat... etc

But some at the same time some medics will always heal you for free for some reason. Thanks, i guess?

4. Achievements - Remember when you could explore all anomalies in game and get a boost to artifact rarity drop? Or earning a ton of money so you get famous for your wealth and traders start to offer you a lot more stuff? This is simply gone

5. Live Zone 2.0 - well, devs already commented that feature in not implemented and should be added somewhen in the future. But yes, currently also gone. Because of it zone fells a lot more empty and "dead" compared to Call Of Pripyat and Clear Sky

6. UI - not only inventory looks cheap like it was made for mobile game, but it became strongly downgraded from previous games where you could see exact amount of stats offered\taken. Now artifact rises your maximum amount of weight capacity by "Weak" amount. Jesus Christ, how hard it was to simply transfer config number on UI so it would say "Rises maximum carry weight: +5kg". You don't know how effective anything is unless you watch documentary research on youtube

7. Economy balance - mechanic. Repairing your suit and weapons will take basically 80% of total income and too bad if you want to get some upgrades, because even tho T1 and T2 upgrades are reasonably priced,but T3 and T4 will force you to take stalker mortgage for 10 years to pay for them
Game does not want you to be attached to your favorite weapon\suit. It will brake fast and repair costs so high that you will be forced to replace it or grind to maintain it
Weapon\suit trader basically acts as trash buyer, because as source of weapons\suits they are made obsolete by hidden stashes

8. Hidden stashed - a gamebraker. I always wandered why it was designed with "Quantity over quality" mind. Compared to previous games they indeed became more scarse, but still fells like a lot for some reason. Content of these stashes may wary from 3 vodkas and 10 bullets - to new free suit for 80k

9. Enemy balance - bloodsucker and poltergeist are prime example of poor balance at the start of the game. First 5 mods developed for stalker 2 contained mod nerfing these two HP pools. Any on them could easily tank +-100 bullet. At the beginning of the game that was horrible experience. Also psi-cat is a damn horrible creature, not only it can tank +-100 bullets, it is fast, it is a small cat that is hard to hit AND also it constantly makes copies of itself so you don't know who to shoot. Btw you usually carry with you around 150-200 bullet or you will become overburdened, so you may do the math with these examples

10. Side quests - there is no long side quests lines with small stories with their own endings and big reward in the end. Game brought back a lot of old character just for them to give you 1-2 fetch\kill these guys quests and you never address these characters again

11. COUPONS - i refuse to elaborate. After playing a few hours you get sick hearing this word

12. Stealth - feels like this area was forgotten at all. Sometimes on missions game implies you to have to take quite approach. Works same way as 14 years ago - doesn't. Anyone who tried it will understand what i mean

13. Parkour - new feature, it's there, used very rarely, works simply inconsistent

14. Nimble - a trader that for a lot of money could get you unique weapon\suit if you wait a few days. Sounds interesting, lets also remove it. (personal sad)

15. Fighting mutants - literally not rewarding. Game only takes your ammo, durability, heals and gives nothing back. it is not mandatory, true, but still weird having nothing to gain after fighting 10 blind dogs.

16. Fighting people - outside scripted loot, seems that randomizer for enemy equipment was not changed since first stalker. Enemies still have no money on them, have 3 bullets in magazine 1 can of meat and 1 spare one

In the end Stalker 2 cat be enjoyable for fans and we see a lot of people loving it. Which is great.
But at current moment game really fells like it was stuck in time around year 2007, if you pay attention to features and mechanics. For really something new i think game could have profited for a year or 2 in development.

Base of the game is solid and i believe that with time game could be great. You can still enjoy is to some degree.
But at current state i would suggest waiting for around half a year.
- A LOT of server problems
- Matchmaking issues
- Poor optimization
- Account wipes
- Terrible UI
- Severe lack of quality of life features
- Random crashes

First game where i have to constantly use "Load last checkpoint" when entering new area, so all assets, scripts and collisions may load properly. This is first time in my life when i encountered issues like this.
Also my PC better then recommended specs and game was installed on SSD.

Consider waiting for a few patches. For now it's now worth it.

Pretty fun game. Great implementation of already familial mechanics with fresh setting. 8.5\10 i would say.

There are just some small issues that could be easily fixed\updated letter and make game nearly perfect:
- Last boss was a little bit too easy and hardly used summons. Picking life leash, devotion collecting weapon or possession spells is meaningless. Also there is no way to replay this bossfight after defeating him.
All other bosses in the game have this option.
- Base building does in not always comfortable. For example sleeping houses utilize mechanic when you can press once and collect devotion automatically allowing you to do your other stuff and don't stand near each house. Not only it would be great for that mechanic to apply to the main statue, but other stuff that collects devotion should also be collected from statue. Or simply each building should provide bonus to maximum devotion on the main statue. Running around that base and collecting the same stuff is not really fun.
- Farms. Lamb or followers should get some speed bonus to collecting food. It was hard to maintain food balance because followers work painfully slow on farms almost always planting and watering crops instead of collecting food. Most of the time even after investing research in farms player have to spend a lot of time there to be able to feed his cult.
- Cult assignation. I don't know why, buy my followers never consistently work on position i assigned them on. It kinda ruins depth of choosing right follower with right items equipped for a job, because after a day he will start doing something else.
- Crowns could use more love. They seems to be source of gods power and after killing bosses they simply vanish. No weapon\skill\special building unlock. Only decorations with them.
- Map reveal card and dungeon construction. Available from the start the card is kinda useless until you get to the spider location(last one in the game). First 3 location don't really use different path during level construction and feel liner. Maybe adding some diversity in different path on early stages could made choice "where to go" more valuable and map card more useful.

Let's start with positives.
Overall gameplay is alright if we are talking about ground exploration and combat.
In space tho it's simply hold shoot button to win. Not much interesting there. All ships got pretty much the same felling and bigger ships with a lot of guns like corvettes were scale down for some reason and feature the same "2 blasters and 1 torpedo tube" layout. The only exception is ships without guns that feel a lot faster.
A lot of character and ships to unlock, you will surely find characters\ships you like.
Dialog and humor is okay.
Graphics and attention to details is good also.

Let's get to the bad part.
First of all. I'm sick of Ray on the main screen. Not only they put her as a face of Skywalker family on the main screen, it also seems she got alzheimer and constantly "looking for someone to show her da way" with the only one specific voiceline everytime. No wonder people try to fix this with mods. It was pretty obvious that she will become annoying with time. Main menu screen also contains animation of her appearing with her that you can't skip so you are forced to watch and listen to her every damn time.
So why only one line from the only character that not really that likable?! Was that hard to add few other iconic character with their lines or ability to skip this intro?

About "screens". There are a LOT of loading screens in the game. Activating "continue play" button will take you like 6 different screens, windows and buttons to press\skip. Even when loading your save it will load narration text crawl that you unable to skip for 5-7 seconds for some reason and after you finally skip it you will get another loading screen getting you into the game. What designer\developer decided that this was a good idea? Why can't i turn off text crawl screen so i won't have to skip it every time even if it will take a little bit longer to load main game? And why do i get confirmation screen with "Loading successful" text that i also need to interact with and close it manually because game won't proceed without it?
Also i found out that this game really dislikes "alt+tab" combination. For some reason it sometimes changes my screen resolution.

Controls for PC are terrible and ability to customize our controls are too limited, since some buttons are responsible for 3-4 actions and you can't separate them.

Player\game communication also not great. Some areas or interactable objects are limited to specific characters and abilities. So game asks for a character that you have, you select it, but you still can't interact with object because actually you have to play season 7 to unlock a special ability for this class. And game does not tell you that, i had to google it.

Quantity over quality.
1200 kybercubes to collect that allows you to upgrade your character and specific class of heroes. The best source of cubes i found so far is asteroids that are limited and gives you only 5 cubes.
Not only that is a lot of stuff to collect, but there are also perk that allows you to seem these cubes on your current level and when you turn it on your screen will be overwhelmed with a lot of different ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you have to collect, so you turn if off because of that making it useless. So why that many cubes? I can't see any practical reason why was it balances this way.
Make it 100-200 cubes and upgrades to cost less. Why do i need this many cubes?!
