This game is awesome.

It's very difficult but it is a lot of fun and feels greatly rewarding when you get better.

I really liked the experience of playing this game.

I wish there were some wholesome moments though, especially for tragic characters you meet.

It's a different style than Risk of Rain 2, and does everything they offer very well; A massive upgrade from the original game that it wanted to do justice.

There is genuinely no reason for the game to have this many bad reviews, but it makes sense because many of the "fans" that hopped onto this series came from the second game and did not care about the first at all. They are not reviewing this game as a standalone product, they are comparing it to something entirely different.

Some complaints I saw:

"Can't alter decisions as much in a run."
In these 2D risk of rain games, certain items are completely absurd (Even in the common category). Being able to stack even 10 of them would make your run, and you gain items in these games at a way faster pace. However, if you really feel like you can't get what you want, just turn on the artifact that lets you choose every item...

"There are few players."
Of course, the game fractures players attention by being mostly intended for single player. The most fun with the original was couch co-op. It's the same niche idea here. Multiplayer will probably only occur when a few friends who have it get together and make an invite only lobby. Who cares about the public online, really? Anybody that is casually interested in the Risk of Rain series would just be playing the second game for multiplayer with randoms (but I don't know why you'd want to go through the random experience anyways).

"The trials are too hard..."
... To gold. There are many trials, some are genuinely easier than others. They feel like a bunch of fun minigames to play, and the initial success goal is not really that hard as people make it out to be. However, if you are a perfectionist, it does require very precise gameplay to achieve gold for some of these.

You can also unlock most things in the game itself, even on the lowest difficulty, which you can alter the difficulty to an extreme (Like reducing the damage you take to only 10% [Without even needing an artifact for it]). People complaining about this genuinely have a skill issue and do not wish to dedicate concentrated effort into completing the trials. Not really their fault, but how does it warrant a negative review? They can't look within and realize they are not invested enough to do it, and just complain that it's not easy enough.

Then I see a few that ultimately admit that the only reason they don't like it is that it is 2D.

But you knew that. You wouldn't like it, but you purchased it anyways and gave it a negative review because it wasn't a completely different game that you are comparing it to.

And with that, I will be on my way.

It seems customers will have to wait a year to ensure they comprehend the true state of the game they are purchasing nowadays.

Anyways, I am deeply saddened that I wasted my money on this and I will be more patient when it comes to buying games, especially when it comes to whatever is over-hyped at the time.

A lot of people are comparing this game to Katana Zero. As someone who seriously loved Katana Zero, I have to say, this game feels much better and complete. However, movement and platforming is the focus and combat is secondary.

I can think of very minor issues coming from this game. One is the sort of whiplash you get with constant switching back and forth from gameplay and cutscenes.

When you are having a lot of fun playing, the game stops you and has you experience a cutscene.
When you are excited by story progression, a new mystery is brought up, and becomes a cliffhanger that is interrupted by gameplay.

They don't want to info dump on you, but they kind of mess up the pace. A bunch of conversations investigate one idea and then for one reason or another, they have to drop the conversation and start running again.

It takes time for the story to get good because the main character is deadpan rude and does not allow conversations to progress very far. There is a purpose for it in the story, but I can see how it would get on someone's nerves.

Once the story begins dropping answers on you, it explodes into something amazing, and you wish you could just watch it like a movie. Shortly after, gameplay calls, and you will feel motivated to perform well and go wild only to still be stopped to interject small dialogue.

Despite this, time is minimally wasted and it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the game. I highly recommend it,

If you intend to play this game because you think, it's wacky and funny, I advise you to do so. Even if you lose or get a bad ending, you did so just because you didn't care. You can go on with your life without experiencing what I did.

If you think that you can "win," or that there is a good ending, you are wrong. The game will hurt you many times by the end of it, because you chose to care about it.

Maybe you find something relatable about it, or just don't want to see her in pain. However, you will probably be desensitized to the shock value, and continue doing wrong to her just so that you can get all the endings. A lot of the endings feel flat and abrupt, but personally, I always had hope that the secret one was worth it.

It's not. It pointed out instead that I absolutely wasted my time with this game and made a mistake by letting it touch my heart at all. Not to mention, that final ending took less than 5 minutes and had no real thoughtful meaning.

Can't even play the game after 2 hours because anti-cheat instantiates for no reason.

Also, its not only loaded with DLC, but also transactions within the game as if it were free to play it or something.

This game deserves more attention. I personally enjoyed it.

Keep in mind, the game is meant to be difficult, but they have been lowering the difficulty and patching up the AI partner.

If you are interested, play the game without killing at all, it'll give you more points and feel more rewarding.
