Is it better than the first Rome? No. But many games aren't as good as the first Rome and they're still fun to play. Rome II is one of them.

RAW is a budget game with all pros and cons. I'd recommend it for fans of hack and slash RPGs who have finished all other games from this genre and are desperate to play some more. The others should probably look up for the better games first. Torchlight or The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing are examples of the better games.

There are bugs in this game. The first occurred when I tried to load a save file. The game froze. What's more, the game sometimes doesn't recognize pressed buttons, thanks to which your character won't use his/her special ability or drink health/mana potion. My character couldn't continue his journey to the next room because of a bug, so I had to restart the level. However, the biggest problem I had with the game is that it won't save your position in the level. So when you quit the game and want to come back to it later, you have to start from the beginning of the level. And yes, the enemies respawns. I also don't like that the game saves my progress only on checkpoints instead of anytime I wish(like in Van Helsing or Torchlight).

On the other side, the combat is good. I've chosen warrior class and was happy to see how enemies flew away from me whenever I hit them. I felt like a true hero, an unstoppable force who can slay enemies by dozens. The beginning of the game was a bit hard and boring, but after unlocking some powerful skills which could heal me and kill many enemies at the same time, the game began to be fun. The graphics is also good, in my opinion. As for the soundtrack, it does good job to enhance the grim atmosphere of the game.

Beside the warrior class, there are two other classes that you can play- mage and rogue. There are also a few side quests you can complete. The story isn't bad, but I think it's role is something that will motivate you to go further, not something that you will remember.

When I saw the trailer, I wasn't very impressed, to be honest. The game looked too frenetic to me. If the trailer was the only soruce of information, I would not buy the game. Luckily, it wasn't.

Lichdom: Battlemage is a fantasy action game. You are a mage who is not limited with the amount of mana. A powerful mage who can destroy thousand of enemies, yet can't jump nor swim. You do not have a sword either, so casting spells is the only way you can fight enemies.

There are 8 sigils in the game, each with three spells- Nova, a spell activated when you defend yourself, Targeted spell, which is a standart one and AOE- Area of Effect spell. Each spell can be atunned to destruction, control and mastery. The effects of these attunements vary from sigil to sigil, but in general it's reccommended to combine them in order to hurt your enemies more.

The powers of sigils can be combined, which is the main fun of the game in my opinion. For example, I casted a time bubble on an enemy, which absorbs damage from other spells. Then I casted a spell which sends bugs to the enemy, eating them alive from within. Finally, I used a teleport spell. The enemy was teared apart with it. The bugs then went to other enemies, hurting and teleporting them through the battlefield.

You can also craft your own spells from resources you'll find on the way, upgrade the spells and even the resources and craft synergies. Synergies are spells which combines power of two sigils. They can summon powerfull creatures or deal huge damage to enemies.

In general, this game is very good. Yes, it can get sometimes a bit repetetive and the levels are basically corridors with few other ways to go. I think the story can't stand on it's own, it serves more like a motivation to go further, killing enemies down the road. But this is a debut of Xavian, and as such is really good. I reccommend this game.

To be totally honest, I don't understand why some people hate this game, claiming that it should not part of the Thief series. I think it doesn't make any shame to its predecessors. Of course, the first two are still better
(I can't say for the third one, because I haven't played it), but it doesn't mean that this one is bad. It has good atmosphere, solid story and some of the missions are wery good(e.g. The Forsaken or A Man Torn Apart). The game never crashed. However, I've encountered some freezings and stutterings here and there. Other problem I've had with Thief is its inconsistency of players interaction towards the enviroment. You can climb on some crates, but you can't on others. You can jump over some gaps, but you can't over others, etc. This will prevent you from falling to death, but I've felt limited in movement. On occassion, there are more than one options of how to approach a situation or how to get further in your mission, but in general, the level design tends to be linear. Rope arrows can only be shoot on specific joists, rather than on anything from wood, like it was in previous games. Another pros of the old games is that after completing a mission, you buy equipment and go straight to the next one. Here, you have to walk from your hideout through the city to the mission, which in my opinion is rather unnecessary.

So yes, the game offers solid fun, but it has its flaws as well. Although, they aren't a big problem and shoudln't spoil your experience very much.

Spoiler abour Garrett:
Rumour: I've heard that Garett in this game isn't the one from the previous games. This game takes place many years after the previous ones. You should be even able to find Garetts mechanical eye in this game.

EDIT(1.2.2014)Addition about Master Thief Edition
I was quite dissappointed how devs approached the Master Thief Edition. You will gain acces to soundtrack, but it's not complete. You have to pay additional money(I think it was 2 euros) in order to be able to download the rest of it. As for the comics- you will have to create an account on third party site, where you can read it, but you can't download it. So the only whole think you will have is the artbook, which will be downloaded with the game from Steam.

King's Bounty: Dark Side is the latest installment of the King's Bounty serie. For the first time, you will play as the bad guy. The balance of Light and Dark was disturbed. The forces of Light are close to wipe all the creatures of Dark. Players will choose one of the dark heroes- Orc warrior, Demoness paladin, or Vampire mage. The beginning of the game is specific for each of the character, but the rest of the game is the same. Players will be even able to travel to the places where other heroes start. In general, I find the story to be good.

The combat system is the same as in the previous games. In addition to sending forces to eliminate the enemy, players can cast spells or use abilities of their companion. The only change is that there is only one boss battle in the whole game, which some people may don't like.

The other thing I don't like very much is the design of quests. In many cases, players will just run back and forth from point A. For example a witch give the player a quest to bring her five ent sprouts. Now, ents are warriors of the Elven army, so player may expect to find them in one of the two Elven isles. But to which one to go? In the end, the Ent sprouts are to be found in a completely different island, where players can buy them from the local witch, if they didn't kill her previously. Some quests may not be finished at all. For example, there is another witch that wanted from me to bring her three magic scrolls. Unfortunatelly, I was not able to find one of them in the whole world, so I couldn't finish the quest. I've seen many people complained in the forums about this kind of quests. I've aldo read in the forums that some people had some of their quests bugged. Luckily, I didn't encounter this. However, I had problems with quest marks. Sometimes, after I progressed in a quest, the question mark appeared on the next location of where I should go, but the old one didn't disappear. This caused that sometimes I had two or even more question marks regarding one quest. Sometimes, the question mark was completely missing. The quest log isn't very helpful , because it only contains the introductory description and tasks what to do in order to complete the quest. Sadly, the tasks are often written in an rather unhelpful way(e.g. “Buy a puppy”, but where to buy it). Sometimes, you are given an advice how to solve the problem and where to go, sometimes you are not. One of the quest stopped upgrading after a while. So yes, there are flaws in the design. Not frustrating, but they spoil the fun. The game even crashed a few times. Luckily, the loading times are short, so it doesn't take much time to return to the world of Teana.

One of the pros of King's Bounty is the humour. You can find references to other work of pop-culture, like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. Some dialogs are quite amusing. However, in some dialogs players will be given more than one options how to answer, but it seems that whichever players choose, the result is the same. That is not very good, in my opinion.

The story is quite good and the locations are nice. Graphics is the same, which I don't find a big problem. They added a few new songs, but in my opinion, they aren't very good. There is also the problem that remained from Warriors of the North- the game seems to select a song that is not very suitable for particular situation. Many times I've heard combat songs in the world map and vice versa. In my opinion, this spoils the atmosphere a bit.

It's hard to decide whether to recommend this game. It's still fun to play, but it has its flaws. If you have played the previous games and just want another journey from King's Bounty universe and you don't mind some glitches, then you might find what are you looking for. For others: if you didn't like the previous installments, you probably won't like this one either. If you are interested in King's Bounty series but haven't played any of the games, I'd recommend you to pick The Legend or Armored Princess, which are the better ones, in my opinion. If I'd have to choose between Warriors of the North and Dark Side, I'd choose WotN, since quests in that game can be completed and it's in better technical shape than Dark Side.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is one of the best ARPG I've ever played. Why?

Let's start with the graphics. It looks beautiful. In my opinion, it's the best looking ARPG I've ever played. Finally some ARPG that overcome Titan Quest in this part. The soundtrack is also very good.

I also like the enviroment. The game takes place in a country called Borgovia. It's similiar to the one you've seen in the original Van Helsing film. The nature and the village you will visit seems to be inspired by medieval Hungary and Romania. In most of the cases, the enemies you will face in the country will be monsters- wolves, spiders, but also Rusalka, a beast from Slavic myths. The situation will change once you enter the capital city, Borgova. The city contains more steampunk elements, e.g. robot soldiers or mutants, than the countryside. Some of the buildings there are inspired by buildings from our world.

What I like the most about this games is the humour. In addition to the easter eggs, the dialogs between your character and Katarina are also well written and amusing.

There is also a tower defence minigame. In this minigame, three waves of enemies would like to get into your base and you must stop them. In order to do that, you can put traps on the way to your lair. It can be a platform that will activate once an enemy will step on it. Or you can place various towers next to the path leading to your base. And of course, you and Katarina will also take place in preventing your enemies to get there.

What I don't like very much is the fact that skills needs mana and they also have cooldown time after you've used them. I think it is not necessary. If you ask me, I believe that only one of those should be used. I would rather use only mana, like it is done in Torchlight. And also the fact that you can shoot enemies that are below or above you is not very good, in my opinion.

I've played Port Royale 3 and I can reccommend it.

There are two campaigns and a Free Game mode. The campaigns serve more like tutorials. Besides, each of them has a story. The first campaign will guide you in a path of a trader, in the second you will take a role of an adventurer. After you complete them, they will transform to a free game, so you can continue playing them if you wish.

The principle of trading remains the same. Buy cheap, sell as expensive as you can. After some time, you can build your factories, hire workers and build residences for them. The products will go in your warehouse. In Port Royale 3, you can hire a steward for your warehouse. This will automate the warehouse and make your life easier. You can tell him to sell goods, buy raw materials for your factories, keep raw materials so he won't sell them or specify which products should stay in the warehouse(and the amount of it too). Trade routes are now easier to manage. You just choose a convoy, select towns which will the convoy trade with and choose a script. Then activate the route and watch how your wealth grows. But if you wish, you can still create your own script and tell your captain where, what and how much to buy/sell or transfer between convoy and warehouse. In my opinion, this is not necessary, as the scripts are well made. There is even script for supplying your factories and selling the goods they produce. This makes life of a merchant in PR3 much easier.

The path of an adventurer includes many naval fights, attacking towns and pirates hideout. Frankly, the combat system from the first Port Royale is still unbeaten, as there you could use all your ships in a naval fight. Here, you can select a maximum of three ships from your convoy that can fight. But at least you can use them simultaneously, unlike in Port Royale 2, where you can only use one ship at the same time. Convoys will have the basic crew available automatically. But it's vital to hire more sailors if you want to fight other convoys. There are three types of ammunition. In Port Royale 3, you don't have to buy the basic cannon balls, as they are always available. The other ammunition types are chain-shots and grape-shots, which you have to buy in towns, along with sabers and muskets. The rest of combat is very similiar to the games predecessors. You can sink, plunder or take ships from enemies convoys.

You can also marry a viceroys daughter, as you can in the previous games. But first, you must have your own manor in a town which you rule. You can obtain your own town either from a viceroy, or by force. A viceroy will give you a town if you are popular there, if the status of the town is Prosperity(the satisfaction of citizens is 75% or higher), if you have enough workers there. In addition, your popularity in the nation of which town you want to rule must be also quite high. A viceroy will not give you command of a town when the nation have 5 or less towns in possession. I don't know if you are able to have your own hideout, like you was in the first Port Royale. I think yes, since I believe you can become a pirate in PR3.

Another novelty lies in acquiring higher ranks. In the previous games, you only had to increase your wealth. Now, you also have to hire more workers and enlarge the storage in your convoys(which you can do simply by buying more ships to the convoys). The rest of the game is the same as the previous ones. You can buy pieces of maps, save castaways on sea, etc.

In general, I find Port Royale 3 a good game. In my opinion, it's better than Port Royale 2, but the first Port Royale is still the best from the franchise because of the combat system. Port Royale 3 is the easiest game from the franchise. The campaigns won't last long. I finished the trading campaign in 3 days(cca 9 hours) and the adventure campaign in one day(cca 3 hours). The only problem I have with this game is the flickering when I turned on anisotropic filtering. That I think is problem related do AMD graphics cards.

Note: This review is about Civilization V: Complete Edition. I will not describe the gameplay very deeply. I believe it was described many times in other reviews here on Steam and on many game sites.

This game brings back the atmosphere that was in the good old RTS like Rise of Nations or Empire Earth. Choose the civilization you wanto to play as, then guide it from the ancient history to the near future.
You can win by conquer every capital city on the map. If you are going to do that, you probably will have to kill everything that stands in your way and conquer all the cities on the way as well. However, there are more victory conditions than just conquer and kill everything. There are more peaceful ways to achieve victory. You can spread your culture to other civilizations. You can become a world leader. Or build a spacecraft and send it to Aplha Centauri. Thanks to this, the game is not only for bloodthirsty warmongers, but also for players who like to play as a peaceful lord. It's also more replayable.

Another good point of Civ V is the opportunity of taking history in your hands and change it. What if Zulu was the first nation who sent their spacecraft to Alpha Centauri? Does it hear ridiculous to you? Or what if Napoleon didn't declared himself as the Emperor of France, but was elected as Leader of the World instead? Do you say that it's impossible? Not in this game. This is what I miss in newer games.

The game is turn based, so you don't have to hurry. This makes the game relaxing. What makes it even more relaxing is the soundtrack, especially when you play as one of the Middle East civilizations.

Another thing that I like about games like this is the fact that you can learn something by just playing them. Civilopedia, the in-game manual, contains informations not only useful for the gameplay, but also some historical facts.
The other way to learn something is to create The Great Works of Arts. They can be produces by Great Writers, Musicians and Artists that are born in your empire. They are named by real persons and the works they create really existed. You can read excerpts from the books, hear parts from the songs and look at the paintings.
Sure, you won't gain enough knowledge to teach at Oxford University, but it can raise an interest in you about these things. Well, at least it did in me. There weren't many games with such an impact on me, only Age of Empires II and Rome: Total War, as far as I can remember.

I was able to lost myself while playing this game. Many times I told myself "Ok, I will play this for a few minutes". Then I looked at the clock and thought "Well, it's pretty late". I can fully recommend this game for anybody who likes to play strategies.

"Sir, what will be it today?"
"We are going for the space victory, James".
"What civilization will you send to space, my lord?"
"We will play as Morocco."

After few days...

"How is it going, sir?"
"We are nearly done, my dear James. We have the most delegates in the world congress. The other nations are waging wars against eachother."
"What ideology have you chosen, if I may ask you?"
"We are following the Autocracy ideology."
"Pardon my, my lord, but I am not sure if Autocracy is suitable for space victory."
"Maybe it isn't, James. But we'll get an achievement for it if we win."
"Oh, I understand. How much did you progress in your goal to win the science victory, sir?"
"Just a few turns and our spacecraft will be ready. Then we will send it to space and we will be the winners.
Just a few turns..."

This game has the best combat system I've ever seen. You can use the enviroment to help you in combat. For example you can trigger traps, throw objects on your enemies, or kick them to water/from stairs, impale them on spikes, or climb above them and shoot them with your bow. As assassin you can hide in shadows and backstab your enemies. As wizzard, you can freeze your oponents, make them smaller or cast ice on earth and watch them as they slip on ice. You don't have to learn skills from one class, so you can learn anything and become anything you want. Some people say that it's useless to learn some skills, because the kicking is the most powerful weapon in game. It's not true. It's more effecient to be for example assassin(and of course, it's more fun).
Game is linear, you cannot stray, but there are four different endings. You have been possessed by a demon which will help you and say funny comments on some situations in the game(and she's got sexy voice). The story is simple but good. The maps are very well designed. The atmosphere is different from location to location. Somewhere it's peaceful, elsewhere it's calm, or dark, or little disturbing.
The game is from 2006, but still good looking. Textures aren't high quality, but the illumination is perfect and enhance atmosphere. Music is mix of orechstral and industrial, someone can say it's dark fantasy. You can find soundtrack on youtube. Sounds are average. Water sounds like water. The characters have very good voices, even the supporting characters. There are also ambient sounds. There are very good and further enhance the atmosphere.

Dark Messiah is the most underrated game I've ever played. It definitely should have second part. I played this game three times and it's still fun. There was still places that I didn't see in previous playthroughs.
Many people were dissapointed becasue they thought Dark Messiah is RPG. It's not. It's action game with RPG elements.
